I recently started reading your father's books after seeing so much incredible praise for them, and I am absolutely blown over by how incredible they are. They have already moved me to tears with their character development and feel like coming home for me. I then discovered your channel and have been working through all of your videos. You both bring something incredible to the reading community - your reviews are so well-rounded and I have added so many books to my tbr list because of them! I really appreciate your videos and how they have impacted my reading, so thank you!
5:11 ED I’m making my way thru Cormac McCarthys books right now and after I finish No Country I’m picking up Blood Meridian! So glad that you love it 😁 And Will, The Road?! I spent last weekend crying bc of the ending Great video guys. Nice to meet you… again 😅
Soooo glad you’re moving through McCarthy’s work! Blood Meridian is a masterpiece but veeeeeeery heavy. The Road is incredible isn’t it. My personal favourite is the first third of The Crossing. Love almost all of his stuff! Thanks for watching legend! Ed
Great idea for a video! I've enjoyed being here for everything that has passed, and I will continue to be here for all that comes. Wishing the Brothers Gwynne many more years of happy BookTubing. Truth and courage!
Great video, and UA-cam is definitely the better for The Brothers Gwynne. My book list certainly expanded due to you. Here's to many more years of the channel... And many more years of your dad's books.
My favorite John Gwynne book is still Wrath. I’ve read The Faithful and the Fallen and Of Blood and Bone. I could just tell when I was reading through The Faithful and the Fallen that I was reading something truly special, and the ending was incredible.
Bring on All The Greeks! Really looking forward to all the reviews of retellings and whatnot. Also Beowulf - heck yes. Was always one of my favorite things to teach in Brit Lit class. Have you read Grendel by John Gardner? Tells the story from the monster's point of view. Really cool perspective and a pretty quick read. P.S. Glad you guys worked in a "Maybe!!" 😄 Would not have been a true trademark video w/o one of those haha
Ed and Will, you should read the followup quartet of Boudica, she wrote it under M.C Scott (Publisher wanted her to seem male). It has a different vibe, about a spy named Pantera. Where as Dreaming the Eagle is by far the best of Boudica, imo her Rome books really shine in the latter half. 3 is a superb military roman book and 4 has an epistolary form that is super well written.
First law is 100% my favourite so far. Haven't tried The Silmarillion yet. Hopefully starting Boudica soon. Warlord Chronicles is on the list. Blood Meridian and The Road are both on the tbr. The Daughters War is rapidly climbing my tbr. Green Bone Saga is great. To newcomers to this channel, you are guaranteed to discover many new favourite reads from here. Cheers dude's.
Only found your channel a few weeks ago and I love it. Although it will definitely make me buy more books!! Boudica was one of the best books I've read all year, if not the best. Must try Joe Abercrombie, I've meant to for ages. Have you ever done a Q&A? That would be fun 😊
Silmarilion is your favourite book, Will? My man! 🤝 Nice to meet you both, The Brothers Gwynne (great title btw). Looking forward to diving into your content.
Love watching your channel! But I find it hilarious that my two least favorite books are The Silmarillion and Blood Meridian and those are some of your favorites 😆 Either way, keep up the good work! Truth and courage ⚔️
When I clicked on this video it say No Views. Think this is the first time it’s happened. I get now why people went mental over ‘first’ comments. Do you remember them? Anyway, much better quality video. Ed, that shirt is fantastic. Will, your hair looks nice in this video. Truth & Courage.
Pps. Have either of you read the Pillars of the Earth? I read it earlier this year and it became my new favourite book. Until I read the sequel which in my opinion, is even better.
His was always my favorite as well. I feel disloyal to Tolkien saying that, haha, but it's true. That's the version I felt was most accessible to my students as well back when I was teaching British Lit.
I've watched your videos for quite a while now and I personally thought you read/reviewed Historical Fiction slightly more than Fantasy, that's one of the things that keeps me watching as there doesn't seem to be as many channels that cover Historical Fiction to the extent you guys do. Just curious - do you guys read any Science Fiction?
Ok guys. (Had to change my user name but I’ve been following you guys since I started reading fantasy about 6 mths ago and massively influenced by your work) So I dove into RoTE bc I watched a video and focused strictly on that til I finished it 2 days ago. I just bought the Faithful and the Fallen series and recently bought Red Rising series, Edan Trilogy, Warlord Chronicles and Mistborn trilogy. But I also have Will of the Many Sword of Kaigen and Bloodsworn Trilogy. I know. I am fully prepared for the next 2 years. But any suggestions on where to go after loving Fitz, but it was so heart wrenching that though I love excellent character building-isn’t there something that’s less torturous and still epic with human connection?? Hoping for a bit of guidance!! Thank you both SO MUCH!!! Best booktube channel EVAH!! 😂❤
@@hpph1744 it might not be a book for you. I found that I was intrigued by Misaki’s character right away and wanted to read more. There are some great moments after the halfway mark. Ed
@@thebrothersgwynne that was the series that first came to mind. I know you have read Red Rising as well. I like more space operas like Sun Eater, Red Rising and The Expanse because of its similarities to Fantasy. I guess what some would call Sci-Fantasy.
It’s a delight to know you both! Thank you for all your fantastic videos, your contributions to our community, and also for your incredible support!
Thank you for your everlasting kindness, Philip! ❤️
Ed
John Gwynne is one of the best fantasy authors, and the Bloodsworn saga is one of my absolute favourites. Really appreciate your channel too
This comment makes us so happy!

That edition of the Silmarillion looks gorgeous... some book envy there!
It's not the size it counts but its ability to stay firm.

I’m new to your account but I’m so excited I found you guys! Awesome taste in books. Going to binge all your content today😂
I recently subscribed, I’m a bit of a booktuber myself, very new, and I love John Gwynne and other fantasy. Keep up the good work!
The Arthur trilogy must be really good if you picked over the Saxon series with utred because it was so good

Just read Shadow. Loved it. Amazing. Love the channel. Keep it up!
4:36 have you read the crystal cave saga by Mary Stewart??? A very classic Arthurian retelling but sooooo good

Some bronze Arthurian statues! Papa G has had them for years - can’t remember where they are from!
Need to read that soon!

Thanks for watching!

When is the next arc when you will expand more into sci-fi (sci fantasy, space opera)?
I'm looking to read Empire of Silence soon but we aren't the biggest sci-fi readers.
