Cannot wait to see part two. I told everyone I knew that part one had IMO the most viscerally loud soundtrack that I have ever heard. Almost riding that edge to being downright uncomfortable. I was too young to see any of the LOTR movies in theaters (I’m 24), so THIS movie was my mind-blowing, religious experience, I-will-remember-this-for-my-whole-life theater experience.
Especially since I LOVE that the Dune stories are so much denser, heavier, more intellectual, more complex, and more profound than any other sci fi I’ve ever seen. These are my PERFECT sci fi. I watched Dune Part 2 twice now in IMAX, because I know I will never have another theater experience quite like this again.
The ACTING was unBELIEVABLE. Rebecca Ferguson was so intimidating and terrifying, Timothee was riveting as a roaring messiah king, Austin Butler was _so sinister,_ it was just GLORIOUS.

@@Mjj5557they do change a lot of things, but for entertainment purposes. A lot of the books are thoughts and dialog. Many things we see in the second movie is full of stuff that is mentioned to happen. Plus they change some things about the Harkonenn. A lot of changes are for the screen and not really plot divergence. A lot of the book is paul's thoughts about things, not doing things so changes are about keeping the theme but moving forward. The emperor is supposed to be young looking, but he still comes across right regardless. That is the kind of change you see.

Am I the only one who found myself crying alot during this film? Not necessarily from the performances although they aided in conveying the weight, but the entire premise of the film is just heartbreaking and left me processing it alot afterwards.

Timothée Chalamet goes through a powerful transformation throughout the course of the movie and you can’t help but cheer for him when he’s on screen. Wouldn’t be surprised if he’s nominated for an Oscar. Can’t wait to watch it again in theaters and buy it on Blu-ray.

Just saw this for the first time yesterday and I was blown away. Easily the most breathtaking spectacle I've ever seen. Being old(er) I remember a gimmick in the 1970s called "Sensurround" where the sound level was cranked up and your seats shook. That's what you get with Dune 2 and I wasn't expecting that. I was just in awe of this movie and the story gripped me. Timothee is perfect here. He's so soft spoken that when he yells it throws you back in your seat. I wish I could see this in IMAX but my AMC doesn't have it.

I went to an IMAX showing at the Tropicana at Atlantic City with my brothers after I saw the first film prior; and it was such an immersive experience. Paul Atreides was so intimidating to watch and Timothy Chalamet’s performance was phenomenal, it’s one of those performances where you see the character and not the actor as the character if that makes any sense. Christopher Walken was alright, there wasn’t much of his character performance that I believed in because he’s Christopher Walken. The cinematography, the sound quality was surprisingly excellent, the lighting, the atmosphere, and the story was insanely well written. I can confidently say that this is on par with the first film for sure, along with the little bits of criticism that I share with you guys. For first viewing, I give it a 90% and maybe some more. So excited for the next film!
Edit: also that twist you guys were talking about was nuts and I didn’t even read the books, so it left me quite a surprise!

SPOILERS (Even for book readers who haven't seen part 2)
I really REALLY loved what they did to Paul in this one. The way he literally became this religious figure, and everyone starts worshipping him. Jesus Christ. The shivers I got. And Timothy did SUCH a good job of adding a thick layer of epicness. Also, what they did with Chani, to my memory, is very different from the book. In the book, Chani never got angry at Paul (I think). In this movie, she's really pissed off at him. Man ... his character in this movie is so damn great it's actually insane

Yeah, saw it last night in IMAX and felt bad that I didn't love it as much, or more, than the Part One. I agree with lots of what you you said, and I would have preferred another 30 minutes to give more time for it to breathe and get a little more exposition here and there, especially with the politics. A lot of times it felt chopped up to keep the runtime in check, but then lost some details I could have used. Still, you can't deny it was masterful filmmaking, yet again. I'll definitely rewatch at some point, but I just never felt the sense of awe and wonder the whole time like I did with the first one.
