Argo must be tuned into the ship's radar & kows these things! Looove the Cort, she is one of my top 3 ships. She lives up to her #1 in many ways. Very rich dual horns for a beautiful Master saute. Captain must be in a jolly good mood. Very nice of them. They are loud & they do reverberate -- I can't imagine being on deck for that like those crew members.
Argo is certainly more aware of, well, everything than I am :) . That salute was loud, very loud! I didn't remember them having the dual horns before this year but maybe I just wasn't lucky enough to catch a salute from them before this year.. hmmm.
The Cort has the second best horn on the lakes!!! Love your videos. I learn so much about the boats and the area. Good luck this winter with the snow! Merry Christmas Cody and Argo!!!
Down, here on both the Detroit and St.Clair Rivers, the ships, when they pass each other and they SALUTE 🫡 each other. In,Detroit and they SALUTE 🫡 the Ambassador Bridge and both the Detroit and Windsor Riverfronts. On, the St.Clair River, and they SALUTE 🫡 each other, and the Port Huron and Sarnia Riverfronts, and the Blue Water Bridge. I,remember when the Stewart J.Cort was welded together, and being towed, before they constructed her, she was nicked named STUBY #1. 9:09
The calmest water I've seen in a while :) Great shot of the Cort. It is amazing how quiet they actually are! I had no idea until I saw a handful go through Port Huron. You'd expect a decent amount of noise (not including the horn, of course!) but nope! Very quiet. Speaking of horn, GREAT salute!!!!
Yes, that has certainly been the theme these last few days. I got up on my north facing first floor roof and shoveled it off yesterday as well. I bet I took at least a thousand pounds of weight off that roof, it was crazy how heavy it was!
@@codyandargo906, my uncle used to run the snowblower on the garage roof, at least until he ran it off the edge into the snowbank and went into the bank along with it.
The Cort has a little bit of the James Barker in her horn. She was the first thousand footer followed by the Roger Blough. They both have/had the same type of unloading system. The conveyer belts come out either port or starboard side they are located in the stern. I’m not too happy with snow because I had to learn how to plow this year. It’s time for my 88 year old dad to give it up. lol Happy Holidays everyone 🎄
@ yes my dad’s pickup truck. I’ve been avoiding the subject of learning to plow for a few years but can’t anymore. I’m not a fan of driving the 4 wheeler either but had to learn.
5:54 it looks like the Cap was headed back in after giving a wave to you guys. Everybody's part of the Argo the Wonder Dog fan club. 😊. I'm sure Stubby got new horns during her 5 yr inspection and paint job. I can't recall her having the two tones before. I could be 100% incorrect, though. It happens quite frequently the older I get. 😅
There was a boy there recording the ship with his ipad, so I imagine the Captain came out to wave and say hi to him, which was super cool! I was wondering if they got new horns during their inspection. I just couldn't remember them sounding like THAT before.
The Stewart J Cort will be wintering in Milwaukee harbor again along with four other ships. Bay Ship Building in Sturgeon Bay ,Wisconsin has a "winter fleet" coming in of 18 of these Lakers. It's quite a sight to see. 👍
I've seen a few pictures before and it is really cool to see! They pump out the ballast tanks so the ships look so tall! It's easy to forget, since we never see it, that there is 20' of ship below the water level when they are on the move.
In 1972,I was in Junior High School, and the Stewart J.Cort was launched, and made her Maiden Voyage from Detroit to Duluth. Then, the Stewart J.Cort was sailing for Bethlehem Steel Corporation, Great Lakes Steamship Division in Detroit. In, 1980,the Burns Harbor was built ,and was the Stewart J.Cort's Fleetmate. Then, Bethlehem Steel Corporation was having Financial Problems, went Out of Business. To,this very day, the Stewart J.Cort is sailing for The Interlake Steamship Company and the Burns Harbor is sailing for American Steamship Company. Both, are sailing from Burns Harbor, Indiana to Duluth, Minnesota. Burns Harbor is located on Lake Michigan between Gary and Michigan City, Indiana. At,least they kept their same Names, but sailing for Different Company Colors. The, weather down here in Detroit, and we are still Green and April Showers at Christmas Time. I,have been Watching Ships since 1975,through the present year. 9:09
I wonder if those ships salute each other when they cross paths, which must be often! It is still remarkable to me how they put her together. Welding the fore and aft sections together to sail her up, to finish her construction.
I was lucky enough to be in Rotary Park in June and catch Cort going through. There was a salute but only a single horn salute. When did Cort get dual horns like the J.R.B.? Or has it always had them and just doesn't always salute using both?
I really don't know if they only got them this year or not. I know for sure that the previous salutes I've heard from them, didn't use both horns. Maybe you are right and they just don't always use both.

Great video. The horn on the cort is my favorite! Nice master salute. Thanks for sharing!❤
Thanks! I'm glad you liked it.
Thanks for the video! It's always a blessing to see you and Argo out catching a glimpse of these beautiful ships to share with us!!!
You're welcome! I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Merry Christmas to you too and thanks for watching!
Fantastic Video I Enjoyed it Great Salute Thanks For Posting😊
Thanks! I'm glad you liked it.
I wish I could meet you in Argo you seem so nice he's such a wonderful dog

Most beautiful ship on the Lakes, the first 1000 footer. Her unique design really makes her stand out 😊
She certainly is a beauty and her design is striking!
What a fabulous catch Cody. !! So glad you could enjoy that moment
As always, Argo gets all of the credit :)
Great salute to all!!❤

I think we lucked out, having a bit of a break in the snow globe for the Cort to come by. Almost like it was planned.. almost! :)
She looks like a big floating box from that angle. That much snow already. Wow. Now THAT'S a salute!!
We are certainly rich when it comes to frozen water on the ground, that is for sure! :)
Talk about a unique voice! Love it!
It is..and LOUD!
The James R. Barker has some Competition in terms of a Fabulous Horn.
Anyways, nice that you brought your dog along with you.
It really was a great salute!
Argo pretty much always comes with me. I feel bad leaving him home even to go grocery shopping! :)
Always clear the sloppy snow before it freezes and you have to fight that ice for the rest of the winter.

That almost sounded like the Barker Bark!! Awesome 🤘
I know, it was so cool!
If her horn doesn’t always have a name, my vote is for “Court call”! She’s a very cool ship for sure

Yes, there certainly is some similarity to the James R Barker, that is for sure!
Hopefully plowing means you get to do it from inside a heated cab?

Great catch! I really need to make it over to Rotary Park more often - your side of the river seems a lot more fun for freighter watchers!
The ships just are a lot closer over on this side. With that said, you have a great view looking down the river from Bellevue Park and Topsail Island.

Awesome horn ❤
It sure is a beautiful sound!
If I was up there I help you clear the snow
puppers needs ear muffers for the loundness lol
I had him stay in the truck just in case we got a salute because I knew it would be loud. I have to do the same with the James R. Barker as well.
