I Am Geezus IDK cartoons have a lot of jokes and references that go over our heads as kids. We may not see it that way as kids, but as adults, we can’t help but notice these things.
Back then Cartoon Network got away with it about stereotype, violence, racist, bad words and sexist stuff like for example when they aired Dragon Ball Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball GT its have a lot of bloods and they didn't even cencored that good Nickelodeon as well sometimes but cencored it or got rid scene or episode somtimes specially in the 90s.

007MrYang I feel like it shouldnt have been here... as it was made specifically not to air. They made it for the adult fans of the show if i recall correct
About the SpongeBob episode, the message was for the youth to get jobs, paid or volunteer. Otherwise, you will probably rot away like SpongeBob did. How is that controversial? Some things really are just black and white.
I think the point was that it portrayed unemployed people as worthless layabouts, and in this economy where (at least in the UK, not sure about the US) there aren't enough jobs to go around, that's not a good messageto send out.
@@MaCabaret no i think what he means about black and white is like the world Of black and white like in the movies no colour its just a sad and dark world

Mark Jake A show that is largely viewed as controversial as long as it's been running. Take any episode addressing some issue and defenders of that issue will be pissed off
Agreed. That aside, I also thought the writing did a good job of presenting a realistic image of a modern day MLK. It wasn't as though McGruder took the name and crafted a totally fictional depiction. Great episode, in my opinion. Powerful message.
The message wasn't bad either, it was that Patrick is a slacker--not implying that unemployment is a piece of cake. I was unemployed once and it was depressing. I was not bothered. Since when is Patrick is a role model either?!
I used to love Speedy Gonzalos as a kid. I never pigeonholed his depiction as a stereotypical mexican. I always thought of him as just a funny character that was cool as hell and a good guy to his cousin.
Why would anyone not like Speedy Gonzalez? He's brave. Honest. Funny. Strong. Dashing. Stands up for the little guy. If only most real life people had those attributes.
If Mr. Krabs forces Spongebob to work for free, that's slavery and yes, illegal. Spongebob however offered to work for free, that's volunteering and that's perfectly legal. Plot holes!
doesnt work like that. Back in the day people could do that but even if a person Volunteers for an establishment, they are to sign certain paperwork to not only verify it but are still entitled to things like breaks and the amount of time they are allowed to not go over. The fact that he signed a document of employment, he is an employee and has benefits. The fact that Mr. Krabbs takes advantage of S.B.'s kindness and doesnt even inform his employees of things like Worker's compensation is a freaking lawsuit waiting to happen. But it is a cartoon..so yeah..lol
"I like my beer cold, my TV loud and my homosexuals FLAAAAAAAAAAAMING!!" I can't decide if that's hilarious or offensive. Way to write a double edged line there.
I don't know why so many people complained about The Simpsons episode. If anything, it was making Homophobic people look completely ignorant. It showed how Homer loved being with the guy until he found out he was gay. That just shows how petty and completely dumb it is to judge people on the fact that they are gay. Oh well, everyone loves playing the victim!
Patrick Nadro I hated the episode, because they did such a character assassination on Homer. The episode was clearly written to make a trite political point (which is never the greatest starting point), but as a Simpson's fan it was very uncomfortable to watch how they twisted the simple but good-hearted and decent Homer into a vicious, spiteful creature in order for him to act as the delivery vehicle for their message. It's a shame they couldn't get their point across without mutilating the show's best-loved character beyond all recognition.
+lawro1987 Yeah, I agree with the Homer thing, it was just odd seeing his character behave and act like that. I was just directing my post more towards how offended some of the gay community got towards it.
Boglenight Yeah I think thats called being fascist; forcing your opinions and feelings on everyone else and disregarding everyone who opposes you. This generation is full of people like that. & yes feminazis are the worst kind.
Lol, when referring to the Japanese soldier, the narrator used the term "Height Challenged" instead of the, I guess now offensive and forbidden word, "Short".
Though, apparently the huge sumo was fine. Depicting people that are factually shorter on average as short = wrong. Depicting them incorrectly as towering over Bugs = fine. Makes a lot of sense. Why don't we just depict all cartoon characters as the exact same height from now on. Easier to kid ourselves than to accept differences.
diypictures mannnn I’m black too and I never understood why white people actually believe black people support him and Jesse Jackson because inside the community we know we all don’t.
The Speedy Gonzales controversy is especially hilarious because Cartoon Network was so worried that the character was racist that they ended up banning all Speedy Gonzales cartoons after they gained exclusive airing rights to them, even though the character is insanely popular in Mexico and it took a Mexican petition to get the network to start airing them again.
True story -- most people who are offended by "PC" things are white liberals. There is an Asian band who voluntarily calls themselves "The Slants", which I think is cool, because they take the insult away from the people who want to use it. 90% of Native Americans don't hate the word "Redskins", and most Natives don't really care about the Indian head with Cleveland.
SuperLlama42 from my understanding the ban was against slow poke Rodriguez. The interpretation that most Mexicans are lazy, gun carrying, who takes A siesta at the drop of a dime.
I'm Mexican and I find it pathetic for people to find that cartoon racist. It's a really fun and innocent character, I've never met literally anyone here in Mexico who finds the character offensive.
Don't say "height challenged." Im 5 foot and don't mind being called short that much. "Height challenged" sounds like a physical disorder (which it is not).
+agizzy23 agreed. I'm not short but I can see the logic in this. Why not call tall people "gravitationally challenged" or something like that, since they're farther from the ground? Saying "height challenged" implies there's something wrong with being short. Actually, very tall people live shorter lives.
Raheim Young The episode was great and actually had a message to it, it's just that some people refused to understand it and saw nothing more than MLK using the N-word. It got alot of complaints, but it did win a Peabody award
Raheim Young That episode was one of the better ones in my opinion. Al Sharpton needs to shut the hell up some times I feel he does more damage than good and just uses people to push his own ideology
The Talespin episode.. Pandala is clearly a take on Shangri-La, and they are all pandas..so is based around the Chinese. And yet she mentions the attack on Pearl harbour.... So who is really doing the Asian stereotyping?
Sorry, but that MLK segment seems pretty accurate. If MLK was still around he'll be very disappointed on what society has become from both skin colors.
Beartallica86 yeah he would be very disappointed. Pardon me if I may sound racist here, but black people went from kind soulful people who made great music to a bunch of rude people who do nothing but spout their own stereotypes. White people have gone from the exact same thing.
Tommy gun I know, it's horrible. Martin Luther King, Jr. was one of the greatest heroes and symbols ever, and the people in Ferguson and Baltimore, with their violent protests, are pissing on his grave.
+Michael Deutsch MLK was not a perfect person you know although that's what you have been taught he did spent a lot of money on illegal prostitution while he was married and probably used the n word himself
Tommy gun But you don't focus on the many black men and women today who are busting their asses trying to live a better life than their parents, or those who came together after the riots in Baltimore to clean the city up by cleaning up broken glass and repairing local business.
gotta love how you can predict the comments to pretty much every WATCHMOJO video as soon as you see the title.its either "you missed____" "the 90s were better!" I watched the Simpsons episode as a kid, and I remember thinking after it that I shouldn't judge people before actually getting to know then and look past the harmful stereotypes.
The majority of gay people liked that episode because the whole point was that Homer was homophobic, everyone told him he shouldn't be closed minded, and homer was punished in series for his behavior and proved wrong and he became more welcoming of homosexuals to the point that he later moved in with a gay couple without any reservations and enjoyed living with them

Just saw this episode n I thought it was not so bad.I figure if the King was here he'd give Al n Jesse a good tongue lashing for thier stupidity. N he would probably be to the point of anger to call it like it is N word to all who spit on his MEMORIE, WHAT HE Died for. Now many NOT ALL but many have fallen away to thier own demis. I imagine he would be VERY ASHAMED of the Black kids of this time and some adults too. Rest in Peace Mr. King I'll see you when I get to heaven.
+Nige Cooper (Bookworm) Whether or not either of those are true, it is incredibly petty to dislike someone who did so much for those reasons. I know it's just your opinion; this one is mine.
Yeah, I was going to say - a list of controversial cartoon episodes, and not one mention of South Park? Sure, I know they were on the previous list, but this is South Park we're talking about! There's plenty of controversy to go around!
P.S. The episode of The Boondocks...of course it offended Al Sharpton. But that episode was ridden with truth...if MLK Jr. came back and saw what he died for, he'd be ashamed at what a large section of the black and poor (which includes whites, etc) and he would call it as it is. Al Sharpton...of course he wouldn't want to hear the truth, because he lives off of the oppression of black people, so if they lifted themselves up and racism was axed off...he'd no longer have a purpose. And that's pretty sad.
Eric Durant I'm surprised Jesse Jackson didn't complain, you know how much he loves being the center of attention. You'd think this sort of episode would easily push his buttons. I guess maybe it made him realize how ineffective of a leader he is for the African American community.
Eric Durant doesn't al Sharpton get offended by ANYTHING black related though? I don't know if it was true (probably wasn't) but in one of eddy griffin's stand ups he talks about how Sharpton got offended by him saying the N word

Or that parents enjoy raising their kids to be intolerant snot nosed brats by shielding and closeting them from many aspects of society. Our children are too young to think for themselves!
Roger Schmuck it was wartime propaganda. it wasn't even really meant for kids. soldiers would be shown episodes like that to help dehumanize the enemy they were about to fight.
FpSMuffin no, the video was misleading, the episode's lesson was don't be afraid of bugs, it can't hurt you, the episode was controversial in austrailia because they have bugs that can really hurt you, and so many psa's there hammer home the message to not play with bugs.
There was nothing wrong with the "you're fired" episode by spongebob, and I actually think here spongebob shows as a good role model for wanting to have a job and do something useful in society. Overall I think the people who banish those episodes are overreacting
I think this episode was just bad. Not type of ordinary bad, more of a controversially bad. It's a huge insult to unemployed people and Patrick taught Spongebob about being unemployed is fun. Such a shame!
For those of you questioning the Peppa Pig episode controversy, episode was banned in Australia since it showed Peppa befriending a spider. Australia is home to some of the deadliest species of arachnids in the world and parents in Australia worried that children who watched the show would be influenced to approach and "befriend" said spiders and thus the episode was banned in Australia
Is "Bugs Bunny Nips the Nips" racist? Without a doubt. But what you fail to understand is that this was a different time, when we were at war. I mean, these were the guys who bombed Pearl Harbor and whom we were fighting, so we weren't to thrilled with them. Is it a racist picture? Yes. But you need to understand the context of it before you can tear it apart.
Liam Humel have you ever looked at the depictions of americans in japan nowadays? its arguably worst than the bugs bunny one. its all a matter of perspective.
Liam Humel This would be why I am glad my parents never told me and my brother NOT to watch these cartoons, but they did sit down and watch them with us. They explained the history behind them to us, and told us why it wasn't good to use such stereotypes today. As a result, we don't get butthurt watching old cartoons, AND we know not to be racist assholes. Parenting win.
***** The idea of this sort of propaganda was to spread a stereotype about the enemy soldier not the Japanese people. It isn't the creators fault that people interpreted it as all Japanese are bad which was not the point. The point was to show the Imperial Army in a bad light.
+MrCatchTwenty2 There's a stereotype that all Asians are super short. While west European decedents are generally taller than east Asians, I guess it was supposed to be offensive in the video as all other physical Asian stereotypes were exaggerated, too.
+Caio Trubat Germany there is a little sensitivity around from WW1 I think. French get it in the neck.I'm not sure if it's different in the US from the UK but we do insult the french a fair deal, mocking their sexualized society, calling them garlic-munchers and what-not, we'll probably look back on it with shame.
The reasons given for some of these bans are utterly pathetic. Most of it's along the lines of 'may cause offense to (insert special interest group here)' You know what 'causing offense' means? Jack shit. You say or do something that a certain type of person doesn't like. Every time Justin Bieber is played on the T.V it pisses off millions of people while other people like it. So shouldn't that be banned? If we keep striving to create a society where nothing that may cause offense is allowed to be said we're all going to end up a bunch of mutes.
Yossel Rozzy Roz - 10:15 Gotta love the cultural stereotypes part. The bad Dexter speaks with a supposedly New York accent. I'm sure the precious inhabitants of Manhattan were left emotionally crushed.
Song of the South was put out by Disney on both VHS and Laserdisc so the public can still see the movie, just at $200 a pop. The sad part is a whole section of the theme park is still based on the movie yet most people have not seen it. The film last played in theaters back in the 80's.
Instead of the Spongebob episode: Spongebob, You’re Fired they should’ve put the Spongebob episode: The Endless Summer because it talked about Global Warming.
It's always a little disappointing when cartoons are taken out of their historical perspective and judged by today"s standard. Case in point, Song of the South. When Song of the South first ran in the 1950's, a lot of white people walked out of the theaters in protest because a black man was the central character; they didn't like the fact that white people were relegated to supporting roles in the movie. How do I know this? My husband saw it when he was a child and was an eyewitness to people walking out of the theater. (My late mother-in-law complained about "that Negro" that starred in "that movie".) So here's my question: Why are people focusing on the setting (the Reconstruction- 'horrors') instead of the fact that in the 1950's (segregated south and Jim Crow) a movie was made starring a black man with white people in supporting role? Do any of you understand how radical and revolutionary that was?
+Elizabeth Harmon Is this like an actually well known thing? Like do you have any references other than your husband. I'm not doubting your husband but you should inform a historian or something. That sounds stupid and dumb, but legitimately you should bring that up somehow. It makes sense too. Not only is he the lead of the film, he has even sung what is considered one of the most popular songs in Disney's history. While the stereotyping and discriminatory remarks remain, that still is a pretty remarkable achievement.
TL;DR: South Park is a satire/comedy that don't regularly touch up on issues like this, but when they do, they poke fun at the concept as well as the people reacting to it. Their only real controversy was dealing with the episode with Muhammed Because South Park is satire. They poke fun at celebrities or issues around the world or media and turn it into a big exaggerated story for comedic affect, the only thing "controversial" about it is it's cursing, something that should be expected from the first show to make the "M" rating on TV-Shows. THESE episodes touch up on racial and social sensitivities, as well as homosexuality, and unemployment issues being exposed to kids. There's a difference between satire shows doing something sensitive, then there's a cartoon irrationally dropping odd concepts. But I don't think the MLK episode should've been on the list, because it's an alliteration to someone related to the issue, it would probably be how MLK would actually react..
+The Angry Djentleman Well if you think about it there is a Bin Laden episode that kinda reminds me to that Merry Melodies' one. Actually, Cartman parodies Bugs Bunny's behaviour in some moments.
+Fernando David Gomes I think the difference is that he portrayed the Taliban and Bin laden as jokes, but portrayed the kids caught in the crossfire as normal children(mirrors of the south park gang)
I remember seeing "Bugs Bunny Nips the Nips" on Saturday Morning Cartoons when I was a little one. I'm 70 now, so they ran it for a while after the war.
They used run cartoons before and /or after a movie, if it was a double feature, and generally, the cartoon would promote whatever message was in the news they'd broadcast at the theatre as well.
I do remember there was a show on the cartoon network I don't remember which one it was, but they had an episode about World War II cartoons, and this would have been on in the 90s, and I remember it was on later at night like 10pm.
You know we live in an easily butthurt world when Peppa Pig makes this fucking list.

I love the idea that Beavis and Butthead were not being socially responsible.

+GamerGate Edin I think our (US) unemployment rate is 4.9%. What's the rate in the UK?

Bart: iunno, came out of the closet.

I thought the Boondocks episode was the most honest though.
Yes it is lololol
histrionic 1 Yeah, no kidding, of course someone like Al Sharpton wouldn't like it. It proves how much of a hustler he's become.
Agreed. That aside, I also thought the writing did a good job of presenting a realistic image of a modern day MLK. It wasn't as though McGruder took the name and crafted a totally fictional depiction. Great episode, in my opinion. Powerful message.
Christian -Soy Ese Luchador-Alexander Haha I saw it last night, it was hilarious.

"unpaid internship"
But its the point that they're taking the children's show too seriously.Kids don't understand half of what Spongebob says
Funny how Mr. Krabs would not let SpongeBob work for free because it's illegal, but Mr. Krabs did a lot of other things that were illegal.
"I like my beer cold, my TV loud and my homosexuals FLAAAAAAAAAAAMING!!"
I can't decide if that's hilarious or offensive. Way to write a double edged line there.
SpongeBob? Really? People are to sensitive...
yea
Sensitive, or are you just mad that people stick up for themselves nowadays?
What were they sticking up for? Unemployed people? I didn't see the episode, but I just don't understand what the big deal is.
It criticized the food stamp system and I forgot what else. Big deal for me
If people find the time to get offended by episodes of sponge bob then I'd say they probably have too much time on their hands.

Lol, when referring to the Japanese soldier, the narrator used the term "Height Challenged" instead of the, I guess now offensive and forbidden word, "Short".
😝😂🤣 "forbidden word" Yeah, I think that's the pc (publicly comatose) way to say, "short" now.
"Height Challenged" sounds funnier than "short". You could also say "vertically challenged", which is just as funny.
JESUS MAN YOU CAN'T SAY THAT DO YOU WANT TO GET BANNED?
Mya A jesus take the wheel.
Calling Al Sharpton a civil rights "leader" is like calling a meth dealer a pharmacist

That is what all this PC bullshit causes, they are so afraid of offending somebody, that they preemptively censor.
So weird
I'm Mexican and I find it pathetic for people to find that cartoon racist. It's a really fun and innocent character, I've never met literally anyone here in Mexico who finds the character offensive.

+agizzy23 agreed. I'm not short but I can see the logic in this. Why not call tall people "gravitationally challenged" or something like that, since they're farther from the ground? Saying "height challenged" implies there's something wrong with being short. Actually, very tall people live shorter lives.

I watched the Simpsons episode as a kid, and I remember thinking after it that I shouldn't judge people before actually getting to know then and look past the harmful stereotypes.

MrMas9 do you know how to use your ears?
I agree though like there's tons of offensive south park episodes.
And that's pretty sad.
mrsuns10 Amen, brother.

***** While I agree, the narrator also said that it was embarrassing implying that it was wrong to create it back then
***** The idea of this sort of propaganda was to spread a stereotype about the enemy soldier not the Japanese people. It isn't the creators fault that people interpreted it as all Japanese are bad which was not the point. The point was to show the Imperial Army in a bad light.
Liam Humel Literally everyone knows that, you aren't special, they were talking about NOW.
13:00 "A height challenged man..." Is that supposed to be a joke or is "short" actually not okay now?

Actually, I found Song of the South on DVD at a tourist trap in Mississipi. And yes, it was legally created.
It was legally released on Laser Disc in Japan.
I'm gay, and i thought that homer's phobia was hilarious.
Ikallicrates I don't think homer is a hero, but it was still a heartwarming episode of how a homophobic person came (pun intended) to like gay people.
Ay see you at Victoria's Secret
Sirpepe Please look in a mirror, you projecting, insecure, "much better in every way cause straight" person.
+Sirpepe I can't believe that you're so unhappy with your life that you feel the need to be rude to other people on the Internet. How sad
+APleasant CupOfCoffee Just because you don't agree with homosexual acts, doesn't mean you're a homophobe.
Yossel Rozzy Roz
I heard New York is a nasty place, especially with the attitudes of the general public.
Lukeiru I used to live there. The people there are very rude.
Yossel Rozzy Roz With my job I deal with people all over the country. New York/New Jersey are the worst. So I can understand what you're saying lol
wowperson26 ^This guy gets it^
Song of the South was put out by Disney on both VHS and Laserdisc so the public can still see the movie, just at $200 a pop. The sad part is a whole section of the theme park is still based on the movie yet most people have not seen it. The film last played in theaters back in the 80's.
you are aware song of the south sells on ebay for -on average- $8-15....?
+Tiamat Storm yeah, I've seen people say this.
(My late mother-in-law complained about "that Negro" that starred in "that movie".)
So here's my question: Why are people focusing on the setting (the Reconstruction- 'horrors') instead of the fact that in the 1950's (segregated south and Jim Crow) a movie was made starring a black man with white people in supporting role? Do any of you understand how radical and revolutionary that was?
+Elizabeth Harmon Is this like an actually well known thing? Like do you have any references other than your husband. I'm not doubting your husband but you should inform a historian or something. That sounds stupid and dumb, but legitimately you should bring that up somehow. It makes sense too. Not only is he the lead of the film, he has even sung what is considered one of the most popular songs in Disney's history. While the stereotyping and discriminatory remarks remain, that still is a pretty remarkable achievement.
and not a SINGLE southpark epsode???
Im surprised
TL;DR: South Park is a satire/comedy that don't regularly touch up on issues like this, but when they do, they poke fun at the concept as well as the people reacting to it. Their only real controversy was dealing with the episode with Muhammed
Because South Park is satire.
+The Angry Djentleman that would've taken up pretty much the entire list!
+The Angry Djentleman Well if you think about it there is a Bin Laden episode that kinda reminds me to that Merry Melodies' one. Actually, Cartman parodies Bugs Bunny's behaviour in some moments.
+Fernando David Gomes I think the difference is that he portrayed the Taliban and Bin laden as jokes, but portrayed the kids caught in the crossfire as normal children(mirrors of the south park gang)
idk how the sponge bob episode was offensive or controversial. "get a job" is basically the message.
from what I've read, Rude Removal was never actually meant to be aired but was made for fun and showed at a convention
"Dad why did you bring me to a gay steel mill?"
This video shows how political correctness ruins everything and not just cartoons and how easily "offended" people get over anything.
How was the SpongeBob unemployment episode controversial?
Dominik Batt I've seen the episode and I don't see nothing offensive about it.
Rocket Raccoon I'm 23 years old. I know being unemployed is not funny but Mr. Krabs fired him for a dumb reason anyway.
Dominik Batt I thought One Coarse Meal was much much worse
viacomsux45 Why was that one controversial?
***** Oh.
I remember seeing "Bugs Bunny Nips the Nips" on Saturday Morning Cartoons when I was a little one.
I'm 70 now, so they ran it for a while after the war.
Interesting. Thank you.
Yes it was common during the 1980s too - I remember watching it as a kid and being puzzled by it.
