Hahahaha that's awesome. I honestly don't care how they are rigged up. Threaded onto the leader or on a jighead. As.long as I bury the hook into my hand or a finger once or twice while rigging up.
Thanks guys, loving these videos!! So informative, your lifesavers. Just got approved for end of September 12 day vacation, headed to Smithers/terrace BC to try and land one of these beauties! Have you been up this way?
Always love marlin Lil sayings.... “ohhh that looks sexy” lol awesome video can rewatch many of these and still learn something new every time!!! Good stuff M8s
The only thing I've ever really been able to catch a steelhead on is a worm/float... Think I'm gonna run the beads this year after ur guys tutorial hard vs soft... Thanks guys
I am new to this and not sure why using fixed float as opposed to using a slip float with stops. Seems like the later is going to be easier to cast as distance between float and worm increases and just as easy to adjust for water depth.
Greg Goostree The taper of the 6 inch worm gives it better action when cut to 4” than the actual 4” worm. It’s all personal preference. Personally I do the exact same thing as Marlin with addicted worms and mad river.
I’m trying to catch my first steelhead and I’m only 13 but I don’t have leader. My setup is a bobber which is 3 feet abound the hook with a quick connect thing with a weight and an artificial egg. I’ve gone 3 times and had no luck I’m starting think it might be my setup
Do you ever fish worms in slow water? I just started experimenting with worms and just kinda assumed faster water would produce better action. Any thoughts?
I can't speak for everyone but I've never had that happen in all my years of fishing. I think it's because they just aggressively attack and inhale those suckers.
I actually like this setup if im not fly fishing for steelies. Im going tomorrow up in pulaski ny tomorrow and I'm gonna use this set up tomorrow. Your video just reminded me to switch rods and just do some float fishin. But I've never used the worms with colored ends so I'm actually wondering do you fish all 1 color sometimes then switch to another or just use straight pink and do you have better luck with color?? Ive only used pink worms other then flies or eggs ect.
I like to use a non-slip loop knot on jigs, let's them float horizontal every time and also provides some pivot action to the jig in the current. A clinch knot can inhibit the action and if it's cranked tight on the eye of the hook, it can also make the jig swim funky if position isn't right. Great job Marlin!!
What’s the benefit of running a fixed float rather then a sliding float. Also why not just put the bobber on your braid with a in-line weight in between and a leader from the weight the a worm?
Fixed floats are used on smaller creeks or rivers or when the water is low and clear. By eliminating all the extra things like bobber stops, inline weights, etc. It allows you to look more natural to the fish, keep the presentation basic and natural to the fish, with no extra distractions getting in the way. Float and Lure that's it! Also with a fixed float, you can see much better what your presentation is doing, whether its ticking bottom, dragging, not deep enough, etc. Its harder to detect these things when the inline weight absorbs some of those movements and indications. A third advantage to the fixed float setup is being able to adjust your depth, quickly on the fly and fish water as shallow as you want. You can take that float down to 4-6" and fish shallow riffles the fish might be hiding in. After all, steelhead aren't very tall. 😜 Thanks so much for tuning in and contributing with your comment. See you on the river! - Marlin
I like fluorocarbon because its virtually invisible to the fish and it allows you to use 12,15,17,20 lb without spooking the fish. I typically use 20 lb always but try what your comfortable with and successful with and stick to it!
Addicted Fishing do u use 20 lb fishin a single bead? I had a fish break me off today with 10 lb. I know fluorocarbon is stiff when get in the heavier tests and takes longer to sink do u think 15 lb would be ok? I also use a piece of splitshot above the bead But thought u may have more experience so any advice is appreciated. Thx
Took me 3 yrs to get my first one, after that it's all good!...in time...in time...every time on the river is a learning experience...almost zen like!...
@@davemac9190 yeah took me a solid year of fishing several times a week. First fish was on an 1/8th oz orange head black maribou body jig under a float. No weights, no swivles.
I just got some of your mustad jig heads, 1/8 oz, why such a big hook ? Why don;t you put your float on the braid, os win you hang up you you don;t lose $7.00 float
Thanks for tuning in Addicts! 🤘🎣

I like to fish worms threaded similar to a bead presentation, looks better hanging from the tree limbs
Hahahahahahahaha

My 2$ scissors cuts braid just as well as that Gerber does just saying💯
Great tips! I may give this a shot, never caught a steelhead before, but I'm gonna try!
Marlin this video really helped make this make since. I'm excited to try fixed floats. And I'd love to try some addictive worms. Mad river...
Okuma is great. I bought a 10'6" "noodle" rod a while back & have been having lots of fun with 8lb mono.
Thanks guys, loving these videos!!

Thank you! I'm really trying to learn winter steelhead and what to use.
I just caught my first Oregon steelhead last month with a pink worm, 8 pound Pline 7ft medium Quantum Solo, SOOOOO fun dood
Mad river cotton candy lol
You had a 7 ft rod? I’m getting into salmon fishing and steelhead. All o have is a 7 ft rod
Love your videos! What about muddy water? Black/dark worms or bright florescent??
I noticed you cut your worm before putting it on the jig. How do you know how much plastic worm to cut off?
Thank you for the tip and worm colors you guys rock
You guys fish braided line in sub freezing temps as well? I end up de-icing every 5 casts or so.
Awesome how to Marlin
Are these set ups exclusive to salmon/steelhead or can you use them for bass and trout as well?
When would you use a slip float vs a fixed? Slip if you’re fishing deeper water so you can cast the whole rig?
Is the Okuma Guide Select Pro 9'9" medium spinning good for this application?
I’ve had zero success with worms or beads glad ur having luck with em
Float or drift? Drift the beads.
Spawn bags always work
Good job, Marlin....
Marlin having a hard time finding floats lost a couple. Need to re stock ?
You can fin them at fish field

-- do you always cut the lenght of the worm, or do you every use a full one?
-- what is the shortest length worm that you would use?
Thanks for the video. Why did you cut the worm from 6 to 4 inches? Thanks

Just watched a few vids , & a new sub. Here in N.W Montana...
Good Chit !
Good informative video, thanks.
What kind of knot do you tie to keep your jig and worm horizontal in the water column
Double Uni does the job
Thanks, good presentation!

In your opinion. Would this system work for a stream in northern Michigan. .
Yep!
Well I will be better trying it. Thanks guys .
Thanks
All this worms are in your store? Or do i have to go to mad river website to find them there.
Great video .
Thank you!
Excellent presentation video. This will be my first year steelhead fishing and this info was really helpful. What size of hook is used on the jighead?
Bobber Down Fishing 1/8 oz size 1/0

I fish them in all types of water. I like them a lot in slower water, super deadly!
Judging by the trees covered in bobbers and jigs some people could use some casting lessons. Including me haha
i like! how often do they bite the tails and miss the hook? seems like a lot of worm section with no hook.
I can't speak for everyone but I've never had that happen in all my years of fishing. I think it's because they just aggressively attack and inhale those suckers.
Where can I buy these floats at?
“When ur Bobber is pointed down river it means that it’s on the bottom “ 😂😂😂😂
Or you haven't mended your line properly
what sized lead headS you using for those worms??? RSVP tHnk Glenn "TIGHT LINES"
Berkeley makes those mouse tails, have you tried them yet?
What size jig heads for worms are you usually using. Hook and weight size?
1/8 oz 1/0 hook.
If the water is more clear, would you use a lighter # floro line? Or do you typically stick to 20#? Thanks for the video! 🙌🏻
Im typically using 20 lb. A lot of guys will go down to 12 and you can do that, I just don't wanna lose a giant!
does it matter how the flat end sits relative to the hook?
What’s the model of the reel ? Interested of getting something like that
I have a rod that has a line from 8 to 17lbs. Can I go higher from 20 to 25 lbs ?
Great video man!

What are your guys thoughts on using a curly tail grub or worm, also do you use scents like procure
Absolutely scent! 👉 addicted.fishing/collections/addicted-fishing-scents-cures/products/addicted-chrome-blend-super-sauce
Fisher Man, I just started using some pink and white curly tail grubs that I found at Cabelas with excellent results.
Anice!
Can I fish this set up in clear low water or should I use jigs?

Addicted Fishing Thanks for answering my question! I will defiantly be using that a lot more.
Very informative video
Great video buddy
We use up to 17 foot rods in the niagara river 😂 more commonly 11 to 14 foot tho
Is it better to use a fixed our your standard drift float
We will cover this in a future video! It all depends what the water is doing where your fishing.
Nice
Thanks buddy!
I fish for rainbow trout with this technique
What pound test of leader? I usually use 10 lb but would 15 or 17 be to heavy for clear water?

why do my clinch knots always slip? I only use an improved clinch now, is there any reason or anything I'm doing wrong?
Are you wrapping enough times?
Why do you make 6 inch worms and cut them down? Do you make 4 inch worms?
u said that u may not be able to catch steelhead on a worm and i thought tom myself i cant catch one at all lol XD
Keep at it buddy! You will get into some.

can you do the same with Live worms
Im sure you could.
Throw some waxworms on a maribou jig
Funny how the setup differs from west coast to fishing erie steelhead..
@Spanaway 1999 I'm no expert but alot of times we're using light noodle rods, small hooks and fluro tippets.
No, we're talking highly pressured fish on smallish streams. Keep the insults to yourself..
