  • The Honest Kitchen is a popular brand pet food boasting "human-grade" (not to be confused with human edible), whole food cat food that is made with dehydrated ingredients. Honest Kitchen cat food is available in a variety of recipes, including chicken, turkey, fish, and beef. This video reviews both canned and dry version of the minced Turkey and duck recipe options. We use a simple and logical approach to evaluating the food using 5 key parameters to focus our attention and remove any emotional influences.

    What a great video. I love your description of a cat's routine! LOL. Getting ahead of the trolls who guess at your training on pet nutrition, priceless! The wet food is 13% carbohydrates. That is high for a wet food. The website says there is organ meat in the wet food, but nothing is listed on the ingredient panel. I always enjoy the Dr Rea outtakes at the end! Happy Purrsday to you!

    Thank you for this cat food review Dr Rea! I look forward to your new video every Thursday! Just like the Honest Kitchen dog food review you did last week, I am just as disappointed in their cat food! It seems like this fancy and highly expensive (here in Canada for sure!) brand, just like many others, doesn't know what minerals are. Their mineral levels are good in the wet food but not in the dry food? Why can't they be consistent in their nutrient levels across the board??? That really throws me off! So far, since I have watched all of your videos, it seems to me that Hill's Science Diet is the only company that got it right in all their lines of food, even ahead of the other "Big Two's" ! Now that I know better - thanks to you - I have become a much better informed pet parent! Until next time! 😻🐾

    Amazing video! My cat eats Hill's. How I love it knowing that boarded nutritionists formulated her diet with optimum nutrient levels!

    You’re one of a kind, I learned a lot about what to feed my cats and what to look for when buying food for them even if the brand is not available in my country. Thank you math lover!

    I have always heard it should be grain free. You are the first person to say they need grain. I will stick with Jackson Galaxy

      That’s odd your vet has never mentioned that. The link with grain free and DCM has been a concern for about 5 years now and it’s heavy in the media

    Hi!!! I’m new here. Thank you for such an amazing explanation!
    I lost my 17 year old beautiful baby to kidney disease this year and I have no words to describe what we went through and how much I miss her.
    Now I have 2 Siberian girls and was wondering which was the best food to give. I was giving them Smalls brand but they changed their recipe and they stopped eating it. So I bought raised right and honest kitchen as options. They did not like the raised right. And now I feel like it was not a good idea to get the honest kitchen. I was wondering if you have a review for the best wet food options available for our fur babies.

      I’m sorry I’ve not done very many cat food reviews but maybe this playlist could be helpful. Cat foods Scoring 7-10

    Grain free is a plus for me. Yes, it rhymes. I opened a can of whole kernel sweet corn last night. I put a few kernels on a plate for the cats. They didn't pay any attention to it. I rest my case! LOL

      That's interesting. My cat's favorite thing on Earth is corn lol. If I open a can of corn and don't feed her a bit from it, her meows will certainly deafen me.

    I am curious as to why you deduct a point for being grain free? I would think gain free is better for cats being that they are obligate carnivores.

    • @AnimalDocRea
      @AnimalDocRea  Місяць тому

      not as important in cats, but there are some cases that have been reported where it is an issue. You can add or subtract that point for cats.

      @@AnimalDocRea thank you so much for such a quick reply! I usually look for grain free. I am currently feeding my cats this brand. The issue I keep having is with my Siamese. She’s always had digestive issues with dry little peddles. Now that she is 12 we deal with chronic constipation. Just when I think we’ve dailed in on food she has another bout 😔 I understand you can’t give medical advice but would grain be beneficial for her? Also if you’re able maybe provide alternative foods/brands we could try? Again thank you for your reply and your informative videos 🐈

      For consitpation wet food can be better and increased fiber can help as well, this can be added to the diet some times by supplements or can just be a higher fiber food so in that sense grain can help. Maybe run a few of these things by your vet and see what their thoughts may be for her.

      @@AnimalDocRea yes she is on a wet food diet only. I thank you again for your time and information! We will talk this over with her vet I hope to find a solution for her. It kills me when I see her in such discomfort.
