I hated eating these as a kid, but they’re my mother’s favorite. As an adult, I did learn to like them, but it’s definitely an acquired taste. The meat can be slightly bitter or sweet, depending on which part is being eaten, but underneath it all is the tang of iodine. We consume these raw dipped in a spicy gochujang and vinegar sauce.
I am a Korean living in USA and thank you for showing these sea pineapple. This is one of my favorite food especially I eat them to bring my appetite back. I wish you all would try!!!
Indescribable, it is not sweet or sour like fruit pineapple rather it tastes like ocean !!???? Similar to sea urchins and we eat them in law. It is sold in frozen section in Korean market.

Your description of their flavour reminded me of how an Australian friend described 'insalata di nervetti' - Nervetti Salad, which is a speciality in parts of ltaly - he said it was like eating rubber-bands in vinegar. Nervetti Salad a typical dish of Northern Italy, particularly famous in Milan, where it is called “nervitt in insalàda”. Although its name might suggest it, it is not made of nerves. I have learned a lot from these UA-cam videos. For example, I have not known that tunicates are eaten and even raised industrially. I would be willing to taste them!
They are sea Tunicates or Sea Squirts. They have the same flavor and texture to Sea Cucumbers( i.e. unflavored gelatin) Almost no nutritive value but eaten mostly because of 'culture'.

I hated eating these as a kid, but they’re my mother’s favorite. As an adult, I did learn to like them, but it’s definitely an acquired taste. The meat can be slightly bitter or sweet, depending on which part is being eaten, but underneath it all is the tang of iodine. We consume these raw dipped in a spicy gochujang and vinegar sauce.

Indescribable, it is not sweet or sour like fruit pineapple rather it tastes like ocean !!???? Similar to sea urchins and we eat them in law. It is sold in frozen section in Korean market.
