TYBW Episode 35 was another great one, this time featuring the epic showdown between Kyoraku and Lille! What did you think of the episode? Were you happy with how the anime portrayed Lille's Quincy: Vollständig? And what are you looking forward to seeing next time? Let me know - thanks everyone!
I’ve seen so many people say that Lille in his holy form looks like a Pokémon (Xerneas or Arceus to be specific) but im personally glad with how he looks. The green is growing on me
@@thewarrior8497 im confused by almost everyone didn't like his form like they've never saw the espadas form before. Like Zommari and Tousen forms were weirder looks to me than Lille
I loved the episode for three reasons: Lille’s Vollstandig and the color choice of being green which is one of my favorite colors, Kyoraku going into his Bankai in anime form was totally satisfying and Soi Fon doesn’t get sniped down by Lille.
@MrTommo2304 (just some really surface-level searching). I'm guessing that Lille Barro hails from the Caribbean (possibly Grenada). I'm seeing that Chocolate INgles is a game from Grenada , AND Lille as a name seems to be of French origin (which would fit for someone from a Caribbean nation). Barro seems to be of Spanish/Portugeuse origin, which also seems like it fits with a Caribbean origin.
Shunsui is afraid to loose his identity should Nanao shave his chest. The key to rob Yhwach of his identity would be to shave his mustache. Ichibei used his sword the wrong way.
@@kaenryuuart543 That reminds me: I wonder how much of a mind-screw it would be for Yhwach if Muramasa from the filler arcs had him fight a newly-materialized Old Man Zangetsu. I mean, Yhwach's own younger self is standing in his way now...
It is said that seeing a Seraphim will strike fear into man, causing them to feint or shiver in fear. When Lille Barro transforms, Shunsui is briefly unable to move. This is likely a subtle nod to this reference. Upon activation of the Vollstandig, it briefly paralyzes the opponent, like a trap, allowing Lille to get off a free shot at his target. Though don’t think this is a “move” that he can do freely, which is why he never uses it again, it’s only a side effect of him activating Vollstandig.
Mr. Tommo, because Shunsui draws Lille further away from the group (back to where they started) before using bankai is why it takes Nanao longer to catch up with him the second time.
@@MrTommo2304 I can’t help but feel like Isane and the others who got sniped were on the ground going through it when Shunsui activated Bankai 😂 They were shot pretty close to where they arrived at no?
20:10 chocolate inglès originates from Spain, but his name is actually French. Chocolate ingles, dharma san ga koronda, and red light green light are all just alternative names of a game called statues, tho I’m not quite sure how old that game actually is
Hes Quite the International Person then, his clothing is typical German Hunter like (when they wear it at festivals and such), hes also Representing Africa because hes Black, and the General form of his Vollständig is very much like Angels look like in the Old more North European folklore.
Yeah im of the same mind. He does seem to be possibly based on a Afro Caribean person. His name is a mix of French-Spanish-Portugese and the song name is too. Much like the people of that region. Lots of cross over with regards to european influence. plus he does look Afro Caribean.
I always assumed French given his first name and given that Paris has a pretty big black population relative to most of Europe, and since France was turned by the nazis in WWII. But Barro sounds more Spanish.
Lille Barro is probably Caribbean or central/south American due to Lille being pronounced as “Lee-Jay Ba-ro”, and not as “Li-yeh Ba-ro” like it would be in Spain. In Central and South America the “ll” sound as in “Paella” is often pronounced as “Jah”, and in Spain, the same “ll” is pronounced as “Yah”.
Grenada, Chocolate Ingles is from Grenada and that puts my man Lillie in the Caribbean. "Un, dos, tres, chocolate inglés" is what the kids say when the others scramble before turning around, I think Costa Rica says "un, dos, Tres Chocolate STOP!" (?)
1. Thanks for mentioning Grenada! 2. Unfortunately, spanish is not really associated with the island as the french and english fought over it multiple times. 3. While Grenada does have version (red light, green light, go) it is english in origin. After speaking to a couple seniors, everyone from 1901 come forward knows it as the english name. 4. Chocolate ingles might stem from a spanish Caribbean island, and given Lille's name, i would speculate Dominican Republic given its proximity to Haiti.
20:10 Chocolate Ingles has a few different origin points, but one of them is Portugal. Barros is also a surname of Portuguese origin and Lille's surname is Barro, so there's a fairly good chance he's meant to be Portuguese.
Yeah, could be. Its also the same word used in Spain and some parts of France. So he could be afro Caribean or brazilian too. I know Lillie is a french 1st name so my money is on the Caribean. He does look like he is drawn as a Caribean tbh
One thing I really want to know about Shunsui's Bankai is; What happens if he activates it against multiple enemies? Do they all get involved in the play? And how will that change it?
51:07 Fun fact: Shunsui actually wasn't shot in his foot. I guess shadows from Kage Okuri can make sound as well, because not only his Bankai didn't give Lille shot in the "foot" as well, but in every single shot of Kyoraku afterwards both of his feet are unharmed
@@mdashrafuzzamansunny2145 bodyparts that get damaged here are not important, the point was about how his shikai and bankai work. Basically, I'm addressing the fact that Kage Okuri shadow, presumably, can speak and even can take multiple hits, which is further proved by his bankai's Act 1 -- it is supposed to give all injuries, that Kyoraku has, to his target, therefore he took only those 2 hits when Lille transformed
As great as Lille's Vollstandig looks now, there's still the second form to contend with. It's too much for me to hope that it isn't CGI, but I hope it looks more stylish than poor Pernida.
Bleach fans, it's okay to like BBS voice but it's unfair to compare it when voice actors are much older now and they also act based on the situation they are in like Shunsui's bankai voice matches his situation where he is wounded so you can hear in his voice that he is slightly struggling to say the name.
My head cannon is that since it was Yhwach's first time giving a schrift he was weak, paranoid, and still figuring it out. Yhwach was presumably at his weakest when Lille received his schrift given the timeline in relation to the Kaiser Gesang. He picked Lille because Lille was zealously devout. He made the activation rules as a contingency since he wasn't sure how powerful the Schrift would be, and if Lille may betray him.
In that moment, without Shunsui, Hirako recognizes that he is the most "senior" captain (with a big hiatus in the middle) but even so, every other one of his time wasn't there or alive anymore....so he needed to maintain the pose for the kids haha
So to determine Lilles origins, let's see, he has a French first name, a Caribbean last name, his race is African, he is familiar with a game from Spain, his clothing is very German although the chaps are very American, and the rifle without the cover looks like a Spas-12 with the stock folded up and that's from Italy, and he speaks Japanese sooooo.......he's very culturally diverse lol
On the note of his nationality I believe Lille is from Grenada. They play that exact game according to Google however even though it’s a Spanish game they were most prominently colonized by the French. And Lille is most probably French at least in the language his name is taken from. Both Lille and barro are places in France. It’s extremely rare to be able to narrow down the nationality of a character in bleach that well. And switching between fights could’ve been an improvement… provided they didn’t show pernida was alive this episode that was one of the most stupid decisions in this entire adaptation. Completely defeats the purpose of breaking up the fights in the first place. As you say now everybody expects Lille to be alive still. Among other problems.
Man i was talking with one of my anime only friends about the latest episode and he always wondered why i loved shunsui as a character (his favorite is shinji) and this episode converted him to a follower of the flower crazed heaven Communion 😭
20:20 is posible that Lille is Spanish, after all his name uses Spanish pronunciation (it's Lee-yeh), and here in Argentina we don't play chocolate ingles but I know they do it in Spain. Fun fact his last name, Barro, meand mud.
20:26 As far as I could research, the most prominent country to have a game called "Chocolate Inglés" is Grenada, in the Caribbean. There's however other nations with such games, like Brazil, though the writing there is slightly different (Chocolate Inglês). This leads me to believe that Lille is supposed to be from the Caribbean area (or at least is a reference to them).
I like how both combatants embody the practicality of warfare and discard the so called honor many, particularly in Gotei 13, hold to. Of course Barro initially simply blast away with his quick sniping reminiscent of modern human warfare, one after the other to trim the opposition. Then Shunsui well, Shunsui is Shunsui. A perfect set up and battle.
As an anime only enjoyer I actually really like that they tease the continuation of the Mayuri vs Pernida fight. That has been by far one of the most interesting fights for me so far, and I was satisfied with the part we were shown already. But teasing that there is more of it to come has got me really excited and now I’m desperately waiting to see the episode that continues it. I definitely didn’t have that same excitement and anticipation when I was under the impression that the fight was over
10:05 huh?? I have to completely disagree. Of course Mayuri's change in Reiatsu when the Jizo gets destroyed would be noticed by the rest of the gotei. Prior to that, Mayuri was relaxed. Why on earth wouldn't Mayuri's bankai getting destroyed get noticed by the shinigami?? 29:44 the x-axis can't be dodged either. It's an attack that doesn't travel between lille barro and his opponent so yes, it's absolutely correct. There's no way tho dodge or block the x-axis. One can only dodge it by guessing where lille is about to fire from but no after lille has fired the attack. That's how it works.
This episode was fantastic especially the bankai presentation 😭Starrk would be so happy to see it if he could. Really cool seeing Ohana as well. So glad they did justice to Shunsui the goat 🔥
Maybe it's just me, but the whole play went by much faster than I had expected/wanted. It was such a visual feast, but I really wanted it to go on longer, for the play's narration to go on longer n more in depth. It felt like it just went so fast, but maybe that's just me. "Time flies when you're having fun," n all that? Still, it was absolutely incredible to watch!
I have a theory that Ohana (Katen) is actually a childhood sweetheart of Shunsui's. Since it's possible for the Zanpakuto spirit to have the same appearance as someone from the shinigami's life (Urozakuro looks like Azashiro's elder sister, and Zangetsu is literally Yhwach) That one scene where the shadow of a kid with the same hairstyle as Ohana seems to me that they like playing games together as children, and that's why Katen Kyokotsu's ability is making children's games a reality. As for what happened to the kid, she may have died when they were young (Because for some reason Shunsui's loved ones always just die).
So Chocolate Ingles seems to originate from Portuguese-speaking countries in South America. Given that the name Barro also seems to be South American in origin, one can assume that Lille must be a Quincy from South America. However, as Quincy are very much Nazi Germany-inspired (the Schutzstaffel ofc) it seems very likely that Lille himself is a reference to the Nazis who fled and escaped to Argentina and other South American countries and established towns and villages.
41:01 He's been shot a lot during this _entire series._ Aside from Chad and Yamamoto, all of his opponents have been gunslingers. Coyote Stark, Robert Accutrone, and Lille Barro. It would have been nice to see him go all out in a swordfight.
31:18 the name "reikaku" is introduced in this fight but the concept is introduced at the latest with tousen in the soul society arc (but probably even before that)
I think Lille doesnt actually have rules. I think the 3 eyes is a reference to the triune god but also Ywachs 3 pupils. A disciple wouldnt be so bold as to use his ability a 4th time and be above his master so by pushing him to a self imposed limit he uses Volstandig almost in defiance of his opponents disgracing of him and his master
One website claims Chocolate Ingles is primarily played by children in Grenada, an island just north of Venezuela. Though i don't know if telling you is of any use, the lack of feedback makes me suspect it's not worth it.
Maybe it’s just out of spite at this point or a running gag idk how many other have pointed it out but if not, hopefully one day he will pronounce Lille and both of jugram’s names correctly.
I would love, next episode to open with a reaction from nanao and maybe even a little tease of her sword, that would be really great imo. great review as always. thx mr tommo:)
@MrTommo2304 bro I got to your channel from you were below 5k viewers. So happy to see you as a prominent platform for Bleach. I'm not gonna lie I liked bleach but I never fully got the depth until I followed you breakdown for what feels like years now. Congrats man and because of you I'm now reading the CFYOW light novels and my favorite character has changed to Captain Myuri and Head captain
Tommo.. idk if you maybe didn't notice or just forgot but Kyoraku and Lille were constantly moving around during their fight... and considering how fast Kyoraku is it's not that hard to assume he was on multiple cases shunpo-ing as far away from Lille as possible especially after the dude activated VSD.. so Nanao getting back to Kyoraku longer than the time she left him is quite understandable just wanted to point that out.. anyway great video as always
I got so many chills while seeing his bankai, almost couldn't blink, it's so chilling... The panels that shows the main events of his bankai.. the background looking like pieces of papyrus folded together, like he's writing an unavoidable script for them to act
At this point would it be better if he just writes, story boards, maybe draws a couple pages or major things and let him direct a talented young artist to take up that part. Opm proves it can be done. Then again, it wouldn't be pure as the artists vision demands in a series like this.
11:41 I’m really glad that Soi Fon didn’t get sniped down by Lille. Cause I would’ve been downright disappointed if she disappears the same happened in the manga, but thank god that didn’t happen. I definitely want to see her last hurrah on teaming up Yoruichi against Askin, even if she loses in the process. Speaking of Soi Fon & Yoruichi, in the filler arcs such as the Bount, Zanpakuto Rebellion & the Reigai arc, they’re shown on scenes interacting with each other and they’ve even teamed up and fought alongside in the Reigai arc and the 2 Bleach films Diamond Dust Rebellion & Fade To Black. But in actual arcs like Fake Karakura and TYBW, they’re not on scene together at all. I’ve realized this ever since rewatching the filler arcs. I really hope Kubo gives Soi Fon a chance to be in a scene with Yoruichi in the TYBW arc anime, cause I think he owes it to the Soi Fon fans out there in my book.
Am i the only person confused as to why Shunsui says that you both have to understand the game to play it but he started the game without Lille even knowing he was playing the first time. How would shunsui know he could play if he didnt know he knew the rules?
38:48- it could be a sign that as the top schutzstaffel- the best of the best Quincy that aren’t parts of the Soul King or Yhwach’s other half/successor- his release is more personalized and refined than the lower Quincy.
The theory of why Koyaku froze for me has always been that Kyoraku got caught by his own game by being "seen". Otherwise feels like Lille would have brought it up or used it again
Recently I've started thinking that, considering the power of penetration Lille has (DO NOT LAUGH), the teleportation might represent penetration of space-time
I feel like a bankai as powerful as shunsui's should only belong to a member of the royal guard, not a captain. Its a cool concept, just feels a little too op.
I think Lille didn't teleport himself. I think since he is the X-Axis he basically "shot himself" with his power to appear where he wanted, in front of Kyoraku. That's just my theory tho
Just my take, but I think they chose to split these two fights the way they did to really hit home how much they parallel each other. Both show “new” powers (modified Bankai and a newly revealed Bankai); both captains are almost killed; both get saved by their lieutenants/“daughter” (Mayuri made Nemu and Shunsui has been Nanao’s only known father figure since her parents died); both have familial flashbacks; both only win with help from their “daughters”.
One thing I have been wondering, we know that the Spirit for a Zanpakuto changes between Sealed/Shikai and bankai. Such as how Tensa Zangetsu is far younger than regular Zangetsu and how Yachiru is the spirit of Kenpachis bankai while Nozarashi is normally a mature woman. So does that make Ohana Katen Kyoukatsus bankai spirit?
I'm just realizing that ukitake would have been the perfect opponent to lille, his shikai is a direct counter to his volstandig, all he'd have to do is absorb hos beam and send it back to him
Its a shame act 2 didnt get a little extra stuff. The Bankai activation nicely flows into act 1, act 1 nicely flows into act 2 and act 3 nicely flows into the final act. The connection from 2 to 3 however is WAY too fast imo. Its honestly the one single flaw in an otherwise perfect Bankai.
Wishful hoping but I really would love to see a flash back of yhwach giving Lille his schrift. A great character and getting more details on him would flesh out his character more.
Not sure if Nanao has just grown that much, or if somehow Captain Yamamoto was even stronger than Lille Baro, but I remember the scene where the Captain Commander was like "I don't have time to teach children how to breathe" as his reiatsu was literally choking her to death.

We need 2hrs full review for the end of Mayuri and Kyoraku's battle!
51:25 Isn't the foot injury revealed to be in one of his clones from one of his games? Which then Lille then shoots in the chest?
I see Lille’s X over his eye as his imprinted letter by yhwach but as he was the first it’s on the outside
One of the hypest moments in the series!
It was done Justice
I think it took Nanao so long because they were moving the whole time. Remember shunsui ended up back at the start to make the distance further
I was about to make dinner, wondering when you were gonna post and then I seen this 😂
31:18 the name "reikaku" is introduced in this fight but the concept is introduced at the latest with tousen in the soul society arc (but probably even before that)
I think Lille doesnt actually have rules.
@@nitemarestlk That's similar to what I thought.
One of my favorite fights in the manga and it was done so much justice🔥
So Kyoraku can use his Shikai to immediately find Aizen through all his Kyoka Suigetsu illusions..?!!
Tommo.. idk if you maybe didn't notice or just forgot but Kyoraku and Lille were constantly moving around during their fight... and considering how fast Kyoraku is it's not that hard to assume he was on multiple cases shunpo-ing as far away from Lille as possible especially after the dude activated VSD.. so Nanao getting back to Kyoraku longer than the time she left him is quite understandable
just wanted to point that out.. anyway great video as always
I think I know exactly what Yamamoto would say if he were the one being left there:
"All things turn to ash"!
I didn’t know he had to right Arceus! 4:55
They animated shunsui’s bankai beautifully
I was expecting lille’s vollstandich to look “disgusting” due to the color choice but it looked extremely awesome
Divine colors and mixed with shadows considering Shinsui shikai and lil green .
Lille is from a spanish country, hence his name is actually pronouced Leeyay. The Double L.
Or you can call him Leejay
Thank you for doing these videos. It’s the only thing keeping me alive.
Am i the only person confused as to why Shunsui says that you both have to understand the game to play it but he started the game without Lille even knowing he was playing the first time. How would shunsui know he could play if he didnt know he knew the rules?
Maybe its because Pernida looked so goofy in cgi but Lille's transformation looks incredibly drawn
Lol that old movie.. Singing in the rain 😆 Gene Kelly was it? 44:00
38:48- it could be a sign that as the top
schutzstaffel- the best of the best Quincy that aren’t parts of the Soul King or Yhwach’s other half/successor- his release is more personalized and refined than the lower Quincy.
This was hands down my favorite episode of TYBW so far.
The theory of why Koyaku froze for me has always been that Kyoraku got caught by his own game by being "seen". Otherwise feels like Lille would have brought it up or used it again
This is amazing but i can't help but notice the lack of bount videos. Time to cover the peak filler arc
Recently I've started thinking that, considering the power of penetration Lille has (DO NOT LAUGH), the teleportation might represent penetration of space-time
I like to think that Kyoraku uses "shadow games" because the quincies come from the shadows. Kinda like he is saying he controls the shadows not them.
It NEVER coated the world in darkness, it appeared to do so. they literally say this...
I find it funny that Soi Fon, one of the fastest soul reapers, is running at the rear.
A 1 hour video by mr tommo!? 😊😊
31:20 i thought the whole point of Ginjo slashing Ichigo's eyes was to teach him to see spiritual pressure?
Chocolate inglés translates as English chocolate.
But it's a Spanish version of Red Light, Green Light
Just my take, but I think they chose to split these two fights the way they did to really hit home how much they parallel each other. Both show “new” powers (modified Bankai and a newly revealed Bankai); both captains are almost killed; both get saved by their lieutenants/“daughter” (Mayuri made Nemu and Shunsui has been Nanao’s only known father figure since her parents died); both have familial flashbacks; both only win with help from their “daughters”.
Exactly
One thing I have been wondering, we know that the Spirit for a Zanpakuto changes between Sealed/Shikai and bankai. Such as how Tensa Zangetsu is far younger than regular Zangetsu and how Yachiru is the spirit of Kenpachis bankai while Nozarashi is normally a mature woman. So does that make Ohana Katen Kyoukatsus bankai spirit?
Soi Fon will possibly fight askin along with yoruichi and their bond will probably be explored more in that fight
Which is better: "Lil" or "Lije" (official writing in Japanese)?
I'm just realizing that ukitake would have been the perfect opponent to lille, his shikai is a direct counter to his volstandig, all he'd have to do is absorb hos beam and send it back to him
If Gremy wasn't an idiot with terrible imagination he was second only to the miracle
With only 37 chapters left in the series to adapt, I'm very intetested to see what season 4 has in store.
5:44 Did the chapter titles get you demonetized?
I love Shunsui, hes so slick, hes so cool and this episode was dope. So glad to see Ohana❤
Askin was there when they were fighting the zero division so he would know oshos name and that information?
i think in chocolate ingles, instead of saying "red light, green light", you say "un, dos, tres, chocolate ingles" :D
I didn’t know he was the leader of the Quincy group. I must be slow.
Wishful hoping but I really would love to see a flash back of yhwach giving Lille his schrift. A great character and getting more details on him would flesh out his character more.
My question is simple, why when Nanao can went to Kyoraku as fast as him, but when Kyoraku fight, she not fast as when 1st time
That Chocolate ingles game that Lille mentions looks a lot like red light. Green light. From what I’ve read anyway
Poor Kyroaku always getting stuck vs dudes with guns
Not sure if Nanao has just grown that much, or if somehow Captain Yamamoto was even stronger than Lille Baro, but I remember the scene where the Captain Commander was like "I don't have time to teach children how to breathe" as his reiatsu was literally choking her to death.
