I just watched “Cocaine Bear” after living in that region since the cocaine was dropped from the airplane. I live in LA today and saw the advertisements for the movie plastered on every piece of plywood and billboard when it first came out. I would literally roll my eyes, almost in disgust. Begrudgingly, I went and saw the movie with a group of friends. Now, I tell everyone to go see it. ;) The storyline is simple, the characters were complex, but quite memorable. I don’t think it was a book, but adapted from news stories, either way, it’s writing delivered a very entertaining product. This video made me understand writing a script may not just be about the content, but most importantly, it’s character development. Thank you.
I am going to school to become a film producer, Screenwriter, and author. Now it's this fiction book I'm writing and I'm going to write a non-fiction book later on how to become a filmmaker, but anyways back to what I was saying this suspense fiction book is very interesting, if I wasn't the author of this book I would still love it but it fits better off only being a book so I would not write a script or produce it because it's better being a book. But there all plenty Screenplays and television shows I will produce only because they fit being a movie or tv show and the 15 books I write will stay being a book.
Hello, can you still call it an adaptation of the book when in the books the girl is richer than the guy, and in the series the guy is richer than the girl? When the attitude of most of the characters (including side characters) in the books is different than the characters in the series? When mostly all the plots in the books never been made in the series, basicly they made new plots to fit the characters in the series? The only thing the same about the book and the series is the tittle of the book and the school.
Yes, many adaptations are "loosely" based on a book, while others follow the book very closely. It just depends on what will work best for the screen. Book and screen are two very different mediums, and the storytelling strategies can be quite different.
This is an excellent discussion of why movies are different from books and how it affects storytelling.
Wow! This is an insightful conversation.
