Hey there Lynx! An exact number is difficult to know, but overall there are approximately 15,000 lanterns in total. Maybe around the 10,000 mark? From what I can tell, the paper is a type of wax paper, like kitchen paper, and is somewhat resistant to wind and rain. The larger zodiac and character lanterns are actually made from a wire frame with a silk-like material stretched over it.
