People have asked me, what would you do with a Time Machine? Answer: go back in time to the end of the war, snatch up as many FG-42s, MG-42s, Impressionist paintings, and other items, stash them away, then come back to the present, haul them out, and sell a couple each year as a comfortable living!
Make sure you have someone you trust register them prior to the bans that will come decades after 😉
Why would I would go back in time? Just grab the whole freaking fallschirmjäger uniform. Also grab as many FG 42s type one and type two as you can
Just a selfish exploitation of situation. I assumed would only take them novel weapons information at no cost and details on their future risks offenses defense to win. The light one this is good for infantry the dark one is good for snipe
I haven't been able to find any information on-line about the actual drop height on Crete (despite frantic googling) but, respectfully, dropping from 400 feet seems a little hard to believe.(even with OSHA being non-existent in the 1940's)
Lower heights have been achieved, but even the modern US issued T-10D parachute is considered "unreliable" at 500 feet.
I can't imagine 1000's of people jumping from 400 feet in a 1940's era chutes would end in anything other than a lot of injured paratroopers.
If anyone has better information about this... please let me know.
Thanks for the comment. When it comes to parachuting, I am not too knowledgable. Death From Above” is often cited as the authority on the FG42, which is where I got my information. The passage cited was as follows:
“Following initial glider landings, which immediately came under heavy fire, waves of German paratroopers of Fallschirmjager were forced by the constraints of the rugged terrain to jump from a minimum height of 400 feet right under the guns of the well-dug-in British defenders, largely New Zealanders from 5 Brigade’s 22nd Battalion whose commanding officer, Brigadier Puttick, had been alerted to the German plan by an Enigma source.”
I guess this was a minimum height at which they jumped, but due to the limitations cited, I suppose the average drop height was not much higher… But again, I’m not well-versed on the dynamics of parachuting. Thanks for the comment!

Which reproduction is more reliable and accurate (i heard that type 2 jams a lot)
Could i get a type 2 with a milled stock or a metal butt plate for the wooden stock?

21세기에도 그 디자인이 돋보이는 유려한 미적 감각!
특수강 사용으로 내마모성을 획득한 희대의 명작!
그 당시 독일의 천재 엔지니어들이 과연 어떤 존재들 인지를 보여준 작품!!
하지만 개선점이 있었어.
1...탄창의 위치가 시야를 방해하는 위치였어. 차라리 반대였다면 어땠을까?
가끔 튀어 나오는 탄피가 시야를 가리지는 못했을 것 같아.
탄피가 오른쪽 상단으로만 튀어나는건 편견인거 같아.
이 총에서는 차라리 탄피가 왼쪽 중단으로 멀리 튀어 나가는 것이 더 좋았을 것 같아.
2...미국은 이 총을 가져다가 분대화기인 '기관총' 을 만들었지만, 오판인것 같아;
이것은 개인 소총으로서 가장 위력을 가지는 총이야.
접근전에서는 기관단총으로서 위력을 발휘하고, 원거리에선 저격소총의 위력을 가진거야
원재료가 특수강이 있다는 이유로 '분대화기' 로 만들어 버리면 총 디자이너의 생각을 무시한거야.
이것은 '명품 브랜드' 의 총으로서 살아 남을 이유가 있었던 거야.
3...총알의 규격이 너무 크고, 휴대해야할 탄약의 무게가 걱정스러워.
이 총이 발전해야할 지향점은....'경량화' '고속탄두 채용' ' 무탄피 소총으로 지향' 3가지야.
이 총은 공수부대원 용으로 첨으로 채택됐다고 한다.
그렇다면 경량화는 이 총의 숙명인거지, 앞으로도 합금과 최신 소재로 경량화로 나가야돼
총의 컨셉은 이미 21세기에도 통하는 뭔가 시대정신이 있어. 그러니 최신 소재획득이 중요해.
초고속 탄두는...5미리 이하의 탄두를 가진 총을 만들어야 하는거야.
5.56미리는 1탄박스 당 400발이야. 하지만 현대전에서 격렬한 전투를 치르면 5분 정도 쓸 분량이야.
그러므로 더더욱 작은 탄두와 탄약무게로 초고속 탄두를 채용해서 병사에게 더 많은 탄약을 지급해야돼
무탄피 소총은 ..결국 개인 보병화기가 지향해야할 목표 같은거야.
독일이 이미 무탄피 소총을 개발해 본 경험이 있지만, 비용대비 효용이라든가 뭔가 뚜렷한 목표지향점이 보이지 않았겠지. 하지만, 이란, 이라크 전쟁이나 러시아 우크라이나 전쟁을 보면, 개인이 휴대하고 있는 탄약량이 얼마나 보급에 지대한 영향을 미치는 지를 알면 탄약 한발을 만드는 비용보다는 무탄피 탄약을 개발하고, 탄두 소형화와 탄두 고속화를 이뤄서 만들어 내는 효과가 더 크다는 사실을 알아야 돼.
4...미군이 아프카니스탄의 전훈으로 6.8미리 소총으로 회귀할려고 한다.
물론 이건 어리석은 결정이지. 전세계가 도시화 비율이 높아지고 있고,
군대는 평야 뿐만이 아니라, 산속, 늪속, 바닷가...그리고 결국은 도시에서 싸우게 되어있어.
그래, 결국은 도시에서 마지막 전투가 전쟁의 향방을 결정짓겠지.
그럼 6.8미리 소총이 필요할까?
미군이 바라는 소총은 저 산속에서 군대를 일으킨 스위스 군대의 소총이 갖고 있어.
굳이 미군이 또 다시 만들 필요가 있을까?
아마도 저건 샷건의 아메리카가 만들어 낸 환상과 꿈이겠지.
그렇다 할지라도 우리가 동조하고 , 박수를 쳐줄 의리는 없지.
왜냐하면 수십년 전에도 미국은 홀로 고속탄두가 좋다면서 5.56미리 할꺼라고 통보만 했었지;;
이제 또 다시 그렇더라도 웃어 줘야할 이유가 없어. 우린 우리의 길을 걸어야지. ^^;
이 FG42 소총은 사실 '소총' 이라고 하는 목표에 거의 근접한 총이야.
여기에 탄두 소형화, 탄창 위치, 탄피 배출 방향결정, 무탄피 소총으로 전환, 소형탄두 채택,
100발형 소형탄두식 탄창 채택,,,,같은 소소한 방향전환만 남아있는 '명품' 이기 때문이지.
디자인은 어떻하든 남겨야 할 것 같아.
이건 ..바꿀 수 없는 그 어떤 무언가를 의미하거든
What bayonet did you say they use?
The prototypes used shortened MAS36 bayonets.
The production models had their own bayonet based upon the shortened examples.
