Hey guys! Thanks for watching! Would you drop some extra money to do a private onsen or are you happy sticking with the public onsen? Let us know in the comments!
@@Drquangpham189 Thanks for watching! It says on their website that tattoos aren't allowed and recently we went back there to use the public onsen and they directly asked us if we have tattoos. But I mean honestly, if you're using a private onsen, no one will see that you have a tattoo so it's really up to you.
I remember coming here, not knowing where the shuttle bus was, I ended up climbing the mountain and walking there on foot. It was a surreal expereince.
I was considering going here in the winter time but i noticed the washing areas for the private onsen rooms are outside. Are there washing areas in the inside we could use? I wasn't planning on using the public onsen just the private one.
Hi there! Looking at the pictures for all the private onsen, it seems all the washing areas are outside: www.hakoneyuryo.jp/english/spa/hotspring/#hanare
Hi guys, thanks for this beautiful video. We travelled in Hakone in march 15th and I would like to reserve in this Onsen. Could you please tell me if we can make for the same day a private onsen et also them public onsen ? Does de price of the private onsen include the public onsen ? Thanks so much
Hi there! To be on the safe side, we would suggest reserving the private onsen before the day. You may be okay on a weekday but it’s quite a popular onsen and spring is peak season in Japan. There’s no need for a reservation for the public onsen though 😊 The Japanese pamphlet on their website seems to suggest that you still need to pay for the public onsen even if you use the private onsen. The price will be a little discounted though - ¥1,000 per person on weekdays and ¥1,300 on weekends. Hope you have a lovely trip!
Hi there! For the private onsen, it's probably best to make a reservation before going. But if you're just using the public onsen, you don't need a reservation 😊
If you’d like to use the private onsen, it’s probably best to make a reservation 😊 There’s a very nice public onsen as well that you can just show up and use.
Plan to go next year during colder or cooler times to enjoy this, and will probably try a mixed bathing onsen if I can find one with less tattoo restrictions but if not private onsen alll the way! thanks
Yeah definitely agree that onsen's are even better in the cooler months! You should be able to find some onsen's that allow tattoos, especially in more touristy areas like Kusatsu onsen. Thank you for watching! 😊
Hello! Sorry for the slow reply. It looks like the best way is to call them, the number is on their website: www.hakoneyuryo.jp/english/ Hakone is well-known for having good English support so if you call in English, it should be fine!
Thank you for the video! Did you book the room in advance? I checked the website where it says to call for reservation. I'm worried that there won't be English-speaking staff and won't be able to book us..
We booked using the inquiry form on their page and they confirmed via email (we did it in Japanese but maybe if you send it with English, they will reply with English too). Alternatively, if you call, you could say in Japanese "eigo demo ii desu ka?" (is English ok?) and 9 times out of 10 they'll find a staff for you who speaks English. Hope this helps!
Great video! I have a couple of questions because I'm hoping to go this year. -If you're in a private room, are tattoos allowed? -Can you wear a bathing suit in a the private onsen?
Hi, thanks for watching! Unfortunately, it does say on their website that tattoos are not allowed. Of course, if your tattoos were covered and you used a private onsen, no one would know but when we went, we were directly asked if we have any. An article like this could be helpful for finding tattoo-friendly onsens: travel.gaijinpot.com/japan-sightseeing-essentials/30-tattoo-friendly-onsen-in-japan/ and usually private onsens are okay to book even if you have tattoos. Usually bathing suits are not allowed. Let us know if you have any more questions!
Their site says they don't allow reservations for opposite sex for the same room unless they're family members, is that something you guys had problems with?
Great reaction Aimee😆 おいしい!! I definitely have to visit Odawara and Hakone , oh how I miss train rides … I love the way you pronounce “bath” and “castle” 🤩 Have a wonderful week 🙏🏼
The train rides through the Japanese countryside are some of the best, especially in summer when everything is so green! Oh haha we do have a few words that we pronounce differently as Australians 😅 Hope your week is great too!
Hi there! The website does say that tattoos are not allowed so you wouldn't be able to enter the public onsen. However, if you were using the private onsen and your tattoos were covered when you entered the facility, I can't see how they would know. The only thing is, they may ask if you have tattoos at reception so it's up to you whether you want to cover it up or not 😊
Hey Kemsuki, thanks for the comment, and love the Gear 5 display pic! I had a look at the website, and it explicitly says that customers with tattoos are not allowed into the baths. There's public baths and private baths at Yuryo. In the public baths, even if you cover your arms upon entry, other customers will see once you enter the bath and they have the right to report you and the staff will then have to ask you to leave. So I would advise against that. However, if you're going to hire a private bath, and you completely cover your tattoos at reception, once you get to your private booth there's no way for anyone to know. Amongst the many rare stories I've seen on Twitter, not once have I seen, nor never heard of onsen staff asking to reveal body parts to check for tattoos. :)

Definitely private, more comfortable i think. Thanks for your video, very good infos.
PS: I had 1 small tattoo on chest, is it ok to go there? Thks

So beautiful area there. I would love to visit Japan one day. Thanks for sharing dear. Have a great time there
Thank you for watching! Hoping you can travel to Japan one day and get to see these beautiful areas for yourself! 😊
Oh my! The private onsen looks lit
I remember coming here, not knowing where the shuttle bus was, I ended up climbing the mountain and walking there on foot. It was a surreal expereince.
Ooh I can imagine! That's a fairly long way on foot! Would have made the onsen worth it in the end 😆
wow looks super relaxing 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Do you remember what room type this was? Thsnk you
Hi there! It was a Type 2 private onsen 😊
I was considering going here in the winter time but i noticed the washing areas for the private onsen rooms are outside. Are there washing areas in the inside we could use? I wasn't planning on using the public onsen just the private one.

Hey I just visited Hakone and made some videos there too. Nice aerial shots.
I visted Hakone in July
Hi sorry for asking, that 10000yen your saying is total for the trip or only the private onsen price?
Hi there! That’s just for the private onsen. If you don’t mind the public onsen, that’s only ¥1600 on weekdays.
Hi, do we need to make a reservation before going to the onsen place?
Hi there! For the private onsen, it's probably best to make a reservation before going. But if you're just using the public onsen, you don't need a reservation 😊

If you’d like to use the private onsen, it’s probably best to make a reservation 😊 There’s a very nice public onsen as well that you can just show up and use.
Is the Onsen water being circulated or new water pumping in at all times?
It looks to be circulated to me.
That's a good question. I couldn't say for sure but it says on their website they use a combination of discharge and circulation.

It’s best to book ahead as this onsen is quite popular, especially on weekends 😊
