Thank you for this video! Definitely super helpful. Knowing absolute zero japanese is already a challenge in itself when doing research for which places are ok to go to and which are a big no no. This is a blessing from the sky. I'm just worried I'll do a woopsies when actually there and not know how to deal with the situation, lol. I'll scrub like there's no tomorrow that's for sure

Don't stress too much! Each bathhouse is a little different but ultimately if you're trying to be polite and observe the rules the staff and other customers will help you if you get something wrong. It really is the best so enjoy!

Nice video. Im an old hyper reader and it would be good to see a video on the video game scene in japan.

Oh, sweet! Yeah, the Japanese gaming scene is pretty interesting and crazy multi-layered but that'd be a way down the track for this channel 😜

I love the my daily soaks in my Japanese bath at home but I'm aching for a proper onsen. Back to Ehime next year!

Have you been to Dogo Onsen? It's definitely on my list!

@@Kampai_Cam The rather expensive hotel very nearby I usually treat myself to has a lovely onsen in it so I usually just see Dogo Onsen. It's truly stunning to see.
Though I did go there several years ago. It's beautiful and oozes history! Highly recommended.

Thank you so much, I was sad the only option would be a private onsen. I have a few questions though, how large were your tattoos? And did locals that used the onsen gave you dirty looks for it or where they ok with it?

I don't have any tattoos. I made these videos because most of my friends DO have tattoos so I wanted to be able to recommend some bathhouses for them, as almost all the places I usually go aren't tattoo-friendly. If a place is officially tattoo-friendly you definitely don't need to worry about it. The locals will be more likely to give you dirty looks for being loud or not following basic onsen rules. There were Japanese people with tattoos at quite a few of these places when I visited. And when I was at the one in Hakone (at the end of the vid) there were a couple of guys with absolutely gnarly full body tats and that was fine.

There ARE some places where if you have a small tattoo you can cover it with a patch and still use the public bathhouse, but I decided to only feature onsen that are completely tattoo-friendly 👍

Koganeyu is definitely a recommendation. I think it’s the best of the so called “design sentos” in Tokyo. The interior is really new and beautiful and the sauna is very nice. AK Spa in Kabukicho is another tattoo friendly spot where you can take a nice look at some great waboris if you’re lucky to sit behind a yakuza in the sauna. In fact there are many sentos or saunas in Tokyo that allow irezumis, most of which spread word of mouth. I’ve never seen any fights or quarrels, they’re very mannerly.
