- Today we are with Nathan Drake from Mina Studios and he is helping me make a DIY Teleprompter for only $4! I have been struggling to talk to the camera and knowing what to say, so we are making a teleprompter with a free iPad app to use for my future recordings and for uses at my church such as our church video announcements. We will show you how to make this cheap teleprompter in a few easy to follow steps.

Teleprompter, $4... cutting into table while making teleprompter, priceless. 😀
Nearly bought a $300 teleprompter. Thank God this video was recommended to me after watching a couple of teleprompter reviews
Wow this guy is a genius, a scholar, and a gentleman. And that Mina Studio guy was OK too....
Whatever! That guy stole the show!
Thanks for the good content. This is genius.
HAHA! you two crack me up!
great job gentleman
love the teleprompter hack
To Mina Studio: He would be if he could help us economize on the other elaborate, expensive equipment we may need.

Teleprompter - read text while scrolling in your screen & record video or audio at the same time.
Read your text straight from your phone while recording yourself. Just like a professional teleprompter.
OMG!!!! That’s incredible! I do 3-5 commercial scripts a week needing teleprompter and you’ve just made my day! What a blessing!
This is by far the best DIY teleprompter tutorial I’ve found on UA-cam, it looks really easy to make and the finished product seems pretty solid! I am definitely doing it! Thanks guys!
This has to be the best DIY idea with the highest ROI I’ve ever seen. Nice work, gentlemen! Sincerely, Will.
Best $4 I've ever spent. 😉
I like when you say "if you really want to be cheap" as if the dollar store wasn't cheap enough. LOL!! Thanks guys!
NOT CHEAP ENOUGH!
I swear, 24 hours ago, it hit me that I could use a cheap photo frame glass to make one of these. The black binder was a brilliant bonus. Would like to see the footage recorded by the camera through that glass though. If it's not anti-reflective, and that glass isn't low-refraction, I feel like there might be some ghosting?
I totally agree! That is why I am watching your video today. I know more about sewing alterations and repairs than most sewers, but as soon as I look into a camera, even my name eludes me.......not really but you get the idea.
I am definitely creating this teleprompter! Thanks to both of you for sharing and being quite entertaining!
Great project! Just a note: the current version of Apple Pages on the iPad has something called "Presenter Mode" that does the scrolling automatically.
Love this fun fact! Thanks!!
Thank you for the tip. I found it but I could only use it by scrolling bij hand. Is that what you meant?
@@PhiloKralen Pages on IPad will auto-acroll. Go to the aA icon, it will let you set the speed of scrolling.
James Eaton yes it’s working. I only need someone who is holding the button... or do you perhaps have a suggestion for that too?🤞
Grateful that you share this, time saver and money saver.🙏
@@PhiloKralen Touch the aA icon then set the scrolling speed
touch the text to go back there
touch the text to start scrolling
touch the text to stop
touch the text to start again
I'm going to check today to see whether a bluetooth clicker will start and stop it.
Also investigating putting bits of text on keynote slides which I know can be moved with a clicker.
Actually made one of these today with stuff I already had in the house - it works! Thank you Sam and Nathan, saved me a ton of cash. :)
Woohoo!! Glad it worked for ya!
You GUYS are SUPER AWESOME!!!! Thanks so much.... THIS IS BY FAR the greatest Teleprompter Tutorials I've EVER seen. I am sooooooo grateful.... Thanks so much...
This is a big help to new UA-camrs like me who want to have the equipment but don't have the money to buy it ;) Thank you!
"Well, I am what you would call a professional cheapskate."
I like you already.
Oh man..... Thanks. I just finished recording 4 short videos. rigged my tablet by duct taping it on the wall behind my camera. Used MS word and a mouse to scroll.... What a pain. There is a reason you have the script roll Infront of the camera.... Live and learn everyday THANK YOU.... I love this.
Well, you can't get cheaper than that for a home made teleprompter! Well done!
#dollarstorewins
Thank you very much for your helping us make a very good home make Teleprompter !!!
The best budget diy teleprompter I've found so far on youtube
Can’t believe you have him on there! I used to watch his videos all the time. Hymns…. He’s a prince of a man!
I just wanted to comment to say I used this video and made one!!! I did it for a project and stuck it on something taller and used my laptop as the camera! I also just left the binding one because I was not strong enough to take it off and it works fine leaving it on also! But it worked really well! The app they used you have to pay for now but there is a parrot app that is similar when you look up the same thing that works the same way!
Did you keep the binder bac under the glass?
lol wish I saw this comment earlier
Spent 15minutes trying to get off the binder and gave up
Im making it now I dont lnow if itll work
This was the best direct set of instructions. I made it and added bumpers to the side to keep the tablet from sliding off. I used unsharpen #2 pencils wrapped in black duck tape. COOL STUFF!
Your intro showing your bloopers cracked me up. They were really funny. I bet every UA-cam creator has bloopers that they edit out.
Wonderful!. Thank you so much. It is 10:25 pm and I will not sleep tonight until I get mine done. Thank you
Using a binder to place the glass inside is a great idea. Thank you for sharing.
Awesome video and tips, thanks so much. Dollarama here I come 😉
This is a great solution on the cheap, just good to show that there is always a way
Glad I found this. Using it for online church since corona is stopping in person gatherings!
Hi! Just needed to drop by and say I made this today and it works beauuuutifully. Thank you so so much. My channel will benefit a ton. Love from Jamaica!

Thanks chaps (I'm British ) that was truly great stuff. Am on my way to the store now 😃
Same Robert! 🇬🇧
Sam.....just wanted to say: You have an incredible head of hair. You may not realize it because you have always had it....but it's incredible. The 'red' may be a cross you have to bear but, believe me, it is well worth it. Lucky you.
These guys are hilarious. I wonder how the flower picture is holding up on his fridge.
Man i have never seen such professional hack within 4$, liked it very much.
Subscribed for future videos.
Thank you so much for this tutorial. It was exactly what I needed at a price point in my budget! My local Dollar Tree was out of everything - but even at Walmart, it came in under $10. The hardest part was finding a glass picture frame, there's SO much plastic out there. I ended up grabbing black duct tape though, the electrical tape would shrink and release, The duct tape holds much better.

I wish more people posted their outtakes like you did here, I honestly feel like I lose 70% of my braincells the second I start talking into a camera
OMG this video was so useful. although it actually cost me $9 to make, I can't believe how well it worked! I wish i could do more than just like and subscribe
Absolutely love the intro and can so relate to the multiple takes.
This is awesome! Thanks a lot! Yes, if I were to record videos of me talking on a daily as part of my business, I’d likely invest in a “professional” setup for the sake of having it all as a set. For the couple times a year I do feel like recording a personal video just for the fun of it, this DIY solution is awesome! Thanks! :)
Wonderful! I wish you both much success in your future. This was informative, instructive, concise, and entertaining!
Genius! LoL... Great video. I was waiting to see you show yourself using it recorded. The humor was great too! 😅
Great video! This is going to save me a bunch of money.
Just built this lads and it works a treat. Thanks so much from the UK
And even that, in a certain sense can be simplified further. Thanks for the video I actually happened to have the perfect sized 8 1/2 X 12 picture frame with a glass frame and I used the black backdrop as the bottom of the binder. Works great, you saved me $150 bucks today!@!
I can’t wait to try this. I get lost and fumble too when trying to look at the camera and speak. Thank you. Awesome. I also love that it’s not expensive to make.
I seriously do too! I'm getting better though! With time! I'm about to post a video about being confident on camera! Hope that is helpful to you as well Kimberly!!

Great video. No one seems to talk about this problem. Brain freeze on cue. I was wondering how many videographers are using teleprompters just like any TV personalities. You answered this question elegantly.
Wow, I can't believe this actually worked! Thanks for putting this together.
“Professional Cheapskate” 🤣 Thanks for the vid.
Dope hack! Might have to try this one for my UA-cam videos! 🎥 💯
Take a look at PromptSmart Pro for iPad. It uses voice recognition to move the text. Also, I made one that I thought was budget, but it cost me like $30. Of course it is on a rails system and uses a latch to hold open the picture frame from the glass, but it's essentially the same. Here's a tip. Use a black t-shirt for the fabric. Put the bottom around the teleprompter glass and the head hole around the lens.
Oh wow! I'll have to look into that voice recognition! A black TShirt would work well! We thought about that too! But just kinda used what we had laying around
@@samdezao I just found a 3D printed one (that builds off of DSLR camera rig rails, too). Since I just got a 3D printer, that's something else I'll be trying.
I have found that turning on a camera is an awesome way to instantly lose 50 IQ points, hopefully I can integrate something like this into my workflow to reduce the size of the blooper reel!
How true is this!!! Maybe even more than 50IQ points for me!
ROFL. Truer words never spoken! .....Errr, written...
And in my case I don't have very many IQ points to spare, LOL.
@@NJP76 ahahah
Haha.
All good information . . . even the part about not cutting into your table.
You just saved me hundreds of dollars. Thanks guys!
Holy sweet mother of Jesus. You guys are great. You've earned my subscription.
God dam that was good...now I make more videos almost twice a week because of this DIY...you guys are awesome
Hello, I applause you both. I am impressed. Smart. Cool. 👍🙌🙌
Tanx guys This should save me HOURS of time...
I tried to build a teleprompter a few years ago to much failure. This method is much cheaper than what I tried. Thankfully I still had the picture frame glass from the first failure. It initially had the same issue that my first attempt did, the text was way too dim (a problem I also have), I bumped the brightness up, and it's very easy to read now! I figured I couldn't get such results without buying beam split glass. I just spent a lot of money on the iPad, and I figured I'd have to wait a while to buy even a cheap teleprompter. I had to separate the vinyl from the cardboard because I bought the cheapest one I could find at Wal Mart. Apparently I shopped at too high end of a store, because the vinyl was adhered to the cardboard. But my X-ACTO Knife fixed this quickly. I'm sure it had been mentioned already, but I love to use the app called Prompt Smart. It's $20 for the pro version which will mirror the text, but both the pro and free version uses speech to text technology to always move the text as you speak, which is awesome. Though of course, it doesn't always work. My reason for a teleprompter is I always have to record multiple takes, then I forget if I said a certain point in that attempted recording, or if it was the previous one. I found even an outline didn't help for the same reason, I'd skip around and lose track!
I did this too with a picture frame, but I added a hinge and so used the "inside" of the frame as the iPad rest, fitted with a screw to an old camera tripod. I like your approach - it's even cheaper than mine :).
Excellent guy, How we solve the reflection problem on photo glass? The letter has a bit ghost mirror
Made this teleprompter today. Looks and works pretty good for just $4! Thanks!
I don't get it. So the "picture" goes through the glass with the letters running on it. And you don't see the letters on the video...? I wish they actually showed it on camera how it works in practice...
@@thehappyhippie3826 I've used it, so I can tell you how it works. With the glass bent forward slightly, you place your tablet with teleprompter app underneath. Then, you place your camera behind the glass and cover the back of the teleprompter and camera with a dark sheet. The glass reflects the screen, and the sheet allows your camera to record without any of the words getting in the way.
Wooooowwwww!!!!!!! That's fantastic guys!! Thank you so much! Tomorrow I'm going to the nearest store to buy some spares! Subscription!
Thank you Sam and Nathan for your brilliant awesome idea. Good job.
FIRST OF ALL THIS WAS THE MOST RELATABLE VIDEO I EVEE CAME ACROSSthe beginning is sooo me. My first yt video I spent two days recording cuz I would get frustrated at myself for not remembering anything after I pressed record. I would blank out all the time
Great video!!! and .....I knew what was going to happen to the table
You had me at “blood”! Very well put together....your presentation that is.
Dude, Bro, Champ, Boss, Guy, Buddy, Sport, that was really cool!
Thank you so much and now I'm on my way to Dollar Tree 🤷🏾♀️
Thank you both so much, Im on my way to dollar tree now!
I just watched and made one. Thank you SO Much! The only issue I ran into was when I cut the binder, there was no loose vinyl to put the glass in but no worries - I just taped it up good all around and it's fine! Thank you!!
Great!! What are you making a prompter for?? UA-cam? Something else??
Sam DeZeeuw UA-cam
Great video guys. Thanks
Brilliant, I tried speaking to camera just using the iPad and it looks like I just had a stroke.
Wow! Love like this guy!! Just saved me over $200. On the way to Dollar Tree!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great video. You will get the ghosting effect if you not properly close out all light. Happy filming guys!
Nathan is hilarious. A natural comic. Nice job guys. Thanks
So brutally efficient and inexpensive! Kudos!
worked perfectly and you saved me £150... thank you!
Thanks guys!
you guys are the best , thank you so much for this , you guys saved my money :)
Lol this is the ticket for non budget productions. I will definitely try this for my personal use.
I may even have an unused binder hanging around the office I can use. This is sooo in my wheelhouse. Thanks.
Well go get it and lets go!!
this is simply awesome
Made this today! Even had all the material around the house and saved a trip to dollar tree. Thank you and Mina Studio both for this budget friendly solution! Awesome!!!
WOW this show is SO UNDERRATED! It's really good! Even though you only have 781,000 subscribers!
Thanks for Hanks and Hunks of Howl!
This is very cool... I was wondering if someone came up with low buck solution and Nathan nailed it.
Professional Cheapskate / Worship Leader 🤣🤣🤣 that's a title we can all hope to achieve. That guy was hilarious!
First time over here but I like this guy's "mild" humor
You are saving me $194! Thank you for sharing your clever idea!
Worked like a charm!
Well done guys. Brilliant
dude this genius! thank you soooo much... i was about to buy one on amazon for 200 bucks.... this was so innovative!!
Hello .. What is the thickness of the glass used due to the appearance of the problem of text mismatch in its reflection on the glass?
You can't be cheaper... if you already have an Ipad... (or an other notepad ?).
Brilliant idea !
All the time for sure!
Awesome video! I love building cheap and effective solutions. Thanks for this!

Well done Gents. Thank you.
Wow..what a design..Super DIY. Dude you both are awesome. Thanks a lot!!!
Congrats Sam, Glad you Staying Positive and you have your Backup Plans Good Point🤝💪🥁
Very good and very nicely presented.
The teleprompter was easy to make and effective. Thank you. :)
Thanks a lot! Very easy to remember how to do that teleprompter
