Set in Incheon, Shaman Of The Sea chronicles the efforts of Shaman Kim Keum-hwa to preserve Baeyeonsin-Gut in the west coast of Korea. Originally from Hwanghae-do in what is now part of North Korea, Shaman Kim fled to the South during the Korean War and has since maintained the Baeyeonsin-Gut tradition in the city of Incheon where she finally settled. In the past, the West Coast Baeyeonsin-Gut was both a religious ritual and a village fête performed in fishing villages to wish the well-being of seamen and agood haul of fish. However, due to changing circumstances in the fishing industry of modern Incheon, the tradition of Baeyeonsin-Gut now faces extinction. Join ShamanKim on her quest to keep this ancient custom alive. Will she manage to keep this precious ritual alive?

@@marcelsandino5483 There is no animal sacrifice involved? BTW, Shinto is a version of Baekje religion (A organized version of 'Korean Shamanism') which has been exported into Japan and later Japonified.

Korea has survived Chinese ruling and Japanese annexation, just like Vietnam survived the imperialistic Chinese ruling and annexation they managed to preserve their culture and language and even after centuries successfully expelled the chinese, epsecially the han chinese.

And historically speaking, Buddhism was the official religion in the Koryô dynasty (918-1392), but was shuned aside by official confucian ideology in the Chosôn dynasty (1392-1897), and was reduced down to a few monasteries in the mountains. So one can hardly say tnat Korea is "Buddhist and will always be Buddhist". It is just as Buddhist as it is Confucian, shamanistic and Christian

Just wanna say that Shamanism is not a "culture", it exists in all countries and performed in several ways. Its teaching comes through the spirit guiding the correct person, not, in all cases, a person could teach another. Or else the person would only get the form and it will be pure superstitious to perform.
Shamanism is a set of practices within the shared cultural background of Siberia, Central Asia, the Korean peninsula and (previously) parts of China and Japan. The word is from the Jurchen language. These features are not present in all cultures. The specifics of the cosmology, practices, training and the like are specific. Shamans, as one recently said, are only paid in potatoes. They are specialists in ritual warfare and protection. They aren't the same as mediums or priests-those are other specialties in those societies.
