- Finding Gold nuggets in Talbot with Minelab GPZ 7000 with NF Z Search 17"x13" coil. Also reveal whats inside a mystery object found out in the bush
It's called a monkeys fist and was used to add weight to the end of rope. It was used to allow you to throw a rope up and over a tree limb etc.
It was also used as a weapon onboard the sailing ships of old! Nice find!
Also it could’ve been made up for someone’s doggie toy.. Nice bits of gold by the way mate..
Yep its called a monkeys fist normally would have a tail with an eye splice with extra rope, we would make an use them on the ships for easy of passing either tow or tye up lines to shore of other vesels.
It originated with Navies.
Monkeys fist knot used as a weapon.
Thanks for this.
The rope was bound around a solid shot and or dipped in lead paint in the days of yore
Ity a monkeys fist. It was attached to a lighter rope and then tied onto a heavier rope, pipe, hose and thrown to get the heavier hose or rope or pipe to a desired point. The navy uses these to get refueling hoses from one ship to another ship.
