      Madison S I’ve been looking into getting a collie (or working dog) for severe anxiety, depression and PTSD and have heard they aren’t very good. Do you think this is true? I think collies are some of the smartest and sweetest dogs

      @@alexandraduffin6875 herding dogs are not recommended for psychiatric work because they easily pick up on your anxiety and this can actually cause them to be anxious too which is not good for a SD

    My dog is about 6 months old and I’ve been working on training her to be a service dog, for my anxiety and ptsd. And I just wanna say this actually works. My collie picked up on this within one week. She does it when I don’t even know and she’s come such a long way. Thank you for this.

    It'd be awesome to have a service dog, maybe then I could actually do stuff, depression sucks and I'd love to get a dog that could help me, be there and just, all the things service dogs can do. And I don't really get many anxiety attacks but I still get them when I think too much and service dogs just seem wonderful, unfortunately I live in a small house with mom, dad, brother, a cat, four small dogs and we can't add anymore, so it's time to suck it up! I've done it many times, why not some more.

      Sliver Stream I know what you mean. I have severe migraines were I had to go to the hospital a few times and had to stay over night all the times I went because of it. I also have bad anxiety were I am running out of class because of an anxiety attack. But my problem is I have 2 dogs and 2 cats and one of them is pregnant. And my family isn't exactly rich and SD cost a lit of money. So I feel u bro

    • @lostsilver1162
      @lostsilver1162 6 років тому

      Karen Cook Yeah, it's horrible, I my anxiety isn't that bad, more slow, I work myself up and I get mingraines too but so far none being too bad, I usually just work through it myself. It would just be awesome to have a service dog, I mean don't get me wrong, my cat loves me and I love him, but he's not like a 'worker' cat, he's just family so he usually doesn't calm me down because he doesn't wanna be sneezed to death, neitherless he's an awesome pet and I wouldn't even trade him for the world's best service dog, I guess I'll just have to work by myself, I've been doing it so far, though it hasn't been the best :/

    • @karencook7054
      @karencook7054 6 років тому +1

      Sliver Stream yeah. Ik what you mean. I am actually saving money in a bank account everytime I get money so I can try to get a service dog. Ik I have to get approved by the ada first. Just to make sure that I have enough money to do it. Maybe in the future if its still to bad for you and not as many animals maybe you can put some thought into the same thing. Idk were the is even going honestly.... But yeah..

    • @lostsilver1162
      @lostsilver1162 6 років тому +1

      Karen Cook That's awesome! I hope you can get the perfect service dog! Though for me, I don't know, a service dog would be awesome but on the other hand my family members would just think am crazy, am only fifthteen too, I can't get much money and even if I could, drepression is like a stone dragging me down, my motivation in basically everything has just fallen, am luckily to even get to school for a week. I think best is to just find my own way to handle this. I have one too many problems too and if am saving up for money it wouldn't be for a service dog, there's a few things I need much more then a service dog.

      service dog Frankie 5 When you are training her, start by slowly reducing the amount of treats you feed her, so don’t suddenly take them all away, but slowly reduce the amount of treats she receives. Basically give them to her at random (when she correctly performs the task) so she doesn’t really know when she is going to get a treat, but still does the task. I don’t know if that makes sense, but I hope it helps. 😊 Good luck

    My dog is currently under SD training (anxiety, manic episodes, i get physical) and I'm not sure if learning stand or backwards is necessary. I would love to know because i'm willing to go to the full extent of training. I know backwards is probably important incase something happens, but I would love to know what I can do to make things better for me and my sdit. Training wise.

      Hailey Little i would suggest using small bacon or turkey treats. The dog wants those more than food most of the time, so you might get a better response.

      everyone gets anxiety but not everyone has an anxiety disorder. if this affects you very often you might have a disorder, but please seek professional help to reach a diagnoses. wishing you the best, I know how much anxiety sucks!

    ({}) My dog isn't fit to be a service dog, but it would be amazing to have one, I get minor anxiety attacks that aren't visible, and major panick attacks that are visible. My family could afford a service dog, and it would help me with my panick attacks, because sometime I do stuff that I can't help, and an alert dog would most likely change my bad habits. Except I would need one that can go almost everywhere with me, because my panick attacks happen in public a lot. I have s counsellor that I go too, and could possibly talk to her. I can't talk to me mom because she wouldn't take me seriously, and can't really communicate with my dad at the moment.

    Hey I have a question,Can you train a service dog yourself? Someone keeps telling me its illegal

    • @servicedogonabudget180
      @servicedogonabudget180 4 роки тому +1

      Yes you can it's called owner training and I have done it with my current SDIT Sapphire and previous SD Midget as long as you keep at it it can take up to a 2 years and if your inexperienced it can be harder and you could end up with a washed out (failed) dog but it also depends on finding the right dog a motivated one that loves to work but not overly excited too. Hope this helped also you can look up more about it at ada law article 2 .

      service dog Frankie 5 Dogs can't be stubborn.... And a huskey is one of the harder dogs to train.... Their energy is off the wall due to them pulling large objects for literally DAYS...

    • @coleackley2241
      @coleackley2241 6 років тому

      +Love Bug um, yes? dogs can be stubborn... huskies are hard to train because they are a generally stubborn breed. they were bred for racing with packs so they are individual thinkers incase they needed to make a rash decision during a race. if a husky doesn't want to work or train or do something, they WONT do it. That goes for any animal, but is very likely in huskies. That's what being stubborn is.

    • @arianal4684
      @arianal4684 6 років тому

      Huskies are actually extremely trainable and can be very easy to train because of how intelligent they are, they just learn differently than other dogs and are more independent since they were bred to pull sleds.

    That’s not an alert for the leg shake that’s a response. An alert is something that happens BEFORE not during or after.

    • @2shmert4u
      @2shmert4u 5 років тому +3

      Leg shaking is often a subconscious action of an anxious handler and the dog alerting the handler of the action alerts the handler to their own rising anxiety and may help them avoid a full-fledged panic attack, but since the panic attack hasn't actually occurred and might be avoided once the handler is aware of their anxiety level, the dog is not considered to be responding.
