- Vocals & arrangement by Farya Faraji. This is an Irish folk song, whose exact origins are unknown, but it's speculated that it descends from 17th century songs about highwaymen who roamed the many regions of Ireland. This arrangement uses the Seagull Merlin, the fiddle and the flute.

I met with captain Farrell and his money he was counting.
I first produced my pistol, and then produced my rapier.

I counted out his money, and it made a pretty penny.
I put it in my pocket and I took it home to Jenny.
She sighed and she swore, that she never would deceive me,
But the devil take the women, for they never can be easy
I went into my chamber, all for to take a slumber,
I dreamt of gold and jewels and for sure it was no wonder.
But Jenny took me charges and she filled them up with water,
Then sent for captain Farrel to be ready for the slaughter.
It was early in the morning, as I rose up for travel,
Up comes a band of footmen and likewise captain Farrel.
I first produced my pistol, for she stole away my rapier,
I couldn’t shoot the water so a prisoner I was taken.
If anyone can aid me, it’s my brother in the army,
If I can find his station down in Cork or in Killarney.
And if he’ll come with me, we’ll go roving near Kilkenny,
And I swear he’ll treat me better than my own disporting Jenny

@@markanthony2651 Since you're asking about the Greater Perfect System, then I assume you're asking about it in the context of Greek music which I don't know the answer to. But 20 stringed lyres are attested visually as far back as Sumer
Have you ever made a video about Ancient Egyptian Music? When I hear pieces supposed to be Ancient Egyptian they all either sound like Westernised Arabic Music or just give up and sound like an electric keyboard (Plants vs Zombies 2 for example). Id love to learn about it.

looked it up and the Seagull Merlin is based on the Appalachian dulcimer, and the latter instrument was used by Scotch-Irish immigrants, which suggests some kind of connection!
Yeah as a whole North American music is extremely Irish influenced due to Irish immigration
Have you spent time in Ireland before? That's a fair good singing accent, a bit like the older recordings of midlands people where the register was a little higher than it would be now. Fair play to you!
I just sang this with my natural Canadian accent; I suppose our phonologies overlap enough that it blurs the line when we're singing
@@faryafaraji that's very interesting, the 'a' sound was similar enough that it worked very well. (Generally most Irish people will pronounce 'a' like 'awh' not 'ayy') anyways it was very good. Fair play man

Great video. Could you maybe make a video on how Oriental styles of music have influenced music in Iberia, specifically Fado in Portugal and Flamenco in Southern Spain?
I would refer to my videos "The Greco-Roman Roots of Middle-Eastern Music," and "Why Does Greek Music Sound Eastern?" as they will particularly be relevant to the premise behind your question, which may not be as correct as your wording may suggest; i.e Iberian music wasn't significantly influenced by Oriental styles, it sounded like that since before the Arabs, and the similarities are simply due to the Arabs having adopted the common Mediterranean sound.
Instead of "eastern" influence on Iberian music, we're instead dealing with a situation where Mediterranean and Middle-Eastern music had the same shared roots even before Arabic invasion, hence their similarities

Irish highwaymen were called raparees from ropairí. Australia and the America were the last places to have these types of criminals though the Irish border region has a bit of a reputation as bandit country. The Lourdes credit union robbery happened only mere kilometres from the border.
Not sure why would a ropaire would trade the advantageous terrain of a mountain range with its difficult to cross nature for the flat open corn fields of Kilkenny.
