So what is a Sofa Guitar?? Well, its a term that's informally used to describe the kind of acoustic that you might kick back & noodle with on the sofa, late at night! Its a little more compact than a Dreadnought style guitar, and it should react a little better to softer/quiet playing. But its really just a fun nickname & in reality, if you're sitting on the sofa, playing a guitar, then any guitar could be a sofa guitar!
In this video Ariel and Pete look at 4 acoustic guitars that we think would make great "sofa guitars".
Guitars are recorded with two Neumann KM184 into the UA Apollo 8P.

buys an expensive guitar -> wife tells you to sleep on the sofa -> opens Anderton's youtube channel..."4 great sofa guitars"
Flippify feck.
Ha ha. Makes sofa duty a little better.
Man Pete and Ariel are sofa king good.
Clever brother Williamson
That was the direction I thought they would go with it.
All we need now is all the guitars to be sofa king cheap, you could play them all day!
@@nickfit3 Amen!

Haha. Yes. Fantastic duo

you made my day
LOL ! They're having way too much fun. And I still find "shredding" annoying. Good showcasing of the guitars though. As always, I appreciate getting to see and hear the variety of different guitars, especially in this time of WuFlu.
the sofa guitar is secretly always your favorite
2:06 The run Ariel plays into the main riff as Pete trades off guitars is impressive as hell... He kept that jam running really smooth while Pete switched out. REALLY nicely done.
Really nice playing from Ariel especially in this one.
I was seriously considering buying the Sigma LM-SG00+ from Andertons but I'm in Europe and the currency exchange pushed the price up a bit, to the point where I could find an Alvarez here (an all-solid wood version of the Delta00E) for not that much more... so I bought that... but yeah Andertons made me do it even if I didn't buy it from you...
Loved the sound from both players on the Alvarez, both tuned in instantly
Ariel is so so so so goood man like what the helll
My Larivée L-02 is LOVELY to sit on the sofa with and projects SO well. It was their "budget" model a few years back (£900), but the best in that price range by a country mile. Try a Larivée Pete. You'd like one methinks.
Ariel and Pete do sing when they are soloing. Really lovely. Thanks guys.
Loved listening to these guys playing. Keeps me going on my own playing. 😁
I have a Guild M-240E that I use for “sofa” playing and since I got it several months back it’s been my go to guitar %90 of the time. Highly recommended.
Not only could I sit for hours and listen to the Two of these guys play... But I have. Just lovely!
I also have a PRS Tonare and love it, very balanced sound with lots is sustain. Also beautifully made!
So enjoy watching your intro jamming!
Man that ending jam was beautiful. Thanks guys
The addition of 00-015 Retro martin is an awesome guitar with the addition of the Ebony fretboard. By far my favorite acoustic sofa guitar/ guitar I own in general.
Matt Kalisieski i found one recently, only one or two about, are the way to go n the hog ?
How did I miss this video.? What a great one! I have a small Guild M120 and love the small size.
2 incredible guitar players. Whatever Pete plays at 11.30ish, on the Martin, is just something else. Could listen all day to these guys.
As always I'M STELING EVERYTHING FROM ARIEL !!! What a MONSTER ! The melodies ! Everything he plays rings in my little beaten heart ! WoW !!
A couple years ago I was looking for a front porch guitar, maybe an O to OOO size and short scale. Then for a lark I tried a Cordoba Fusion and was blown away. I would have to pay 2 or 3 times as much to get similar tone, resonance and sustain from a steel string. I still work to get full bar chords on the wide flat neck, but the tone competes with my Santa Cruz D & it is so much more comfortable to play just lounging around. Not as loud and it won't do in a bluegrass band, but for just sitting around the porch or living room it's the cat's pajamas.
My sofa guitar is a 1969/70 Airline 7076 ( its just a rebadged, stripped down Sella H929 sold by Montgomery Wards) It has tiny ,thin frets , cheap painted on dots and Pickguard and no adjustable trust rod , but i like it. When i picked it up it was dirty, had a pickguard guled over the painted pickguard, had 4 rusty string and tuners that wound not move, but i got it for $35 and put 5 hours of work in to it. oh and its American made.
True musical inspirations. Thank you both for all of the amazing content!
Great performance!! All are great!! I love a body size which is less than 000 by Martin. I have been playing a guitar over 27 years and nowadays both arms and fingers are wound a bit. So body depth and size are really important for me to play comfortably. Besides if I play an electric acoustic guitar in a band, I may think 00 is lack of low end. But I do not have an opportunity to play in a band. I use Fender strat or tele there. Sofa guitar can be enough for me to play not only on the sofa but at a bar plugged in.
LOVE my Alvarez Masterworks MFA66SHB! Nut and bridge were cut a bit high but a quick trip to my tech and it plays like butter, sounds great, solid wood and well under 1k even with the good setup. I can't think of a better couch guitar (which is exactly why I bought it).
I have the artist version of their Parlor and it is also fantastic. I have their MDA66SHB as well and love it. Alvarez makes the absolute best guitar for the money.
I have to mention the Faith Mercury Naked series for £399, which is great value and well worth checking out, it would be able to hold its head high among these four guitars. It’s a real pleasure to listen to you two play : )
Danish Pete and Chili Klaus need to meet.
He's a pianist as well so they can jam together. :) I want to see which of the Andertons-dudes can play the longest after eating a hot pepper.
Slade Renegade Is he internationally known or are you a Dane as well?
Great video ! Would love to see an acoustic paradiso with Ariel playing the slide !
Nice selection, but omitted from this list is the Tanglewood TW40 SO VSE from their Historic Sundance range. Well worth a try, sounds huge for its small size and has a fishman pickup too. Looks beautiful too. I stumbled across it in a shop after never giving Tanglewood a second thought. I always keep an eye on their new lines now. 👍
All great guitar's l would go with the Martin, would have been nice to see the GS Mini in the line up to see how It compares .... My main guitar I got back in the 70s is a Guild D25 but I do have a Baby Taylor which I play when watching TV , thanks for all the great Videos
Great demo as always.but as always,im here for the jams.I like the Gibson style admin guitar.but love pete's jams!
Have two wonderful sofa acoustics. So much parlor love out there now.
Great video. My couch guitar is a Little Martin with the solid spruce top. Also doubles as my travel guitar. Still enjoyed the video very much.
I have a Martin 000-15 and I absolutely love it. Great sofa guitar!
I want one, I played one in a guitar shop and loved the tone.
Pete and all the rest of us ‘gasming a little bit as Ariel plays 😫
I've got the Martin 0015M, plays beautifully.
Also, a very handy size to keep by your desk if you are working from home. When the Boss is away, the Guitar’s gotta play!
I have the Alvarez Blues 12 fret and I absolutely love it ! Great little guitar. Instead of buying my one Martin I should have bout 4 or 5 different Alvarez guitars.
I wanted a guitar to sit in the living room and look good as well as play nicely. I am left handed which limited my choice and couldn’t go over a bag of sand (grand). I thought the faith sounded the worst unplugged but it is a proper parlour guitar. But it sounded the best plugged in! As it was the easiest to pick up and play and I fell in love with the scoop! I bought the Faith. I still love it. Back in my living room the sound volume is perfect. Also same price for lh.
All nice Acoustic guitars....I recently played a PRS SE Acoustic in my local music store and it was Awesome ....it had no price on it so I thought it would be around a grand....so I asked and it was £400...outstanding quality for the price....I compared it to a Yamaha that was over twice the price and it was about the same....if you are going to buy any sort of guitar then don't buy blind....go a play one...if for at all possible..
Jason Stone I have one and I agree... fantastic value for all level of players.
What specific model of PRS SE acoustic was it? Good value at £400
@@TheBritishPeople Tonare tx20e and it was reduced from around £450...
My definition of a sofa guitar is one that is less expensive and I don't mind keeping out of its case without controlled humidity that anyone can pickup and play.
I sold my non electric Faith Mercury to buy the Martin 000. I miss having the Faith around tho it was the perfect sofa guitar and actually had excellent projection.
The Martin Road Series is another great sofa guitar. I just bought the 000RS1. It is fantastic! Unbelievable what Martin is doing in their Mexican factory! All solid sapele back and sides. Very lively sounding guitar. And it comes with electronics. Even for something to bring places and not worry too much about. That's why I got it!
That walk down riff at 09:00 is beautiful.
My favourite sofa guitar is Cort SFX - E NS slim body guitar . With 25.3 inch scale for slightly easier bending.
The worlds favourite transatlantic duo since laurel and hardy. How about some love for the Martin Lxe1 my sofa guitar?
Has Ariel let Pete have a go on his Mule resonophonic yet?
After hearing many acoustics and doing a shootout with some, my favorite one is still the PRS SE Parlour guitar I have. It has mid range you don't get with other acoustics. You can even plug it in.
Got me a sweet Alvarez AP70 parlor, rosewood and spruce, slotted headstock. Perfect sofa git and surprisingly LOUD. (If you want). Worth a look.
After way too much research, got the AP66, same dimensions, all mahogany. Available with electrics that I declined. Did replace tuners after I broke one that was frozen. I realized later that I could've loosened it. Agree, it can be loud and not nearly as boxy-sounding as other parlors. I think the deeper body helps. For a bit over $300, for me, perfect 12-fret couch guitar.
Thank you gentleman beautiful guitars
Damn the jam sessions on this channel are epic
Ariel and Pete what a combo 🔥🔥🔥
One of my favorite intro jams
Pretty please bring back electric Guitar Paradiso?? It was the best guitar show on UA-cam. I've re-watched so many times. Watching Ariel makes me miss it so :-(
Great video - I’m with Danish Pete, I would take the Martin.
that Faith guitar looks and sounds awesome
I'd love to see more of "The Andertones", on your West Coast instruments.
When I hear jams like that I'm always sad (because of my lack of skill) and motivated (to change that). Fav moment around 0:30
Love me Furch OM having around on the couch. But i must admit that this Atkins makes me drool heavily...
8:44 oooh ooooh yeah ! That was nice
Parlor Guitar - Parlor or parlour guitar usually refers to a type of acoustic guitar smaller than a Size No.0 Concert Guitar by C. F. Martin & Company.
Legit would buy an entire album of these 2 playing like that for like 10 tracks/ 1hr. Amazing.
The Gretsch parlor range is great, I have the g9521 which is a good 000 slothead for under £300.
I got a "travel guitar" for 150$ it's a parlor made by sakura and it's a gem, I love it!
Ariel brings out Pete's playing, in the way Pete brings out everyone else's. What an amazing pairing
I love that Martin Mahogany guitar! Nice video!
Missed a Tyler mini there! Compared it to a Martin and the Tyler had the best sound and best to play on. (I have a Martin OMJM, best guitar I ever played)
Been spending most our lives living in an acoustic paradise
i swear i have a thing for Ariel's playing like lee has for john mayer's....teach me man master yoda ; 0
here's what i think....i love listening to Ariel on the acoustic. I think Taylor GS mini's have this market on lock down.
I came here to mention the GS Mini. Great couch guitar. Martin D Jr is also very nice for that purpose.
Not quite as classy as these, but I think the Gretsch Jim Dandy is a solid contender. Shorter scale, small body and it plays smooth. Throw some silk & steels on it and you've got a really nice player for a pretty low price point.
The comfort of a dreadnaught (or it being uncomfortable) isn't simply about the length of your arms and being tall, but whether it is uncomfortable or not. I am 6'4" and find (when sitting) dreadnaughts to be uncomfortable. My shoulder tends to hurt. it is about how the shoulder is at a certain rotation when playing. This may not bother other tall people, but it bothers me. So.... my dreadnaught does not get played as often. And you will play more often the guitar you find comfortable. For me my go-to is my Taylor 314ce LTD. It has the same volume as a dreadnaught, but the shape causes it to sit lower and removes shoulder ache. Parlor or "couch" guitars would likewise be more comfortable to play... though I don't own any (on the list though). Sofa/couch and Parlor guitars also make great "travel" guitars. Cheers!
I ran across Ariel a couple of times at NAMM. The guy looks like a movie star. Not one hair out of place.
My Sofa guitar is my Chapman Cap10 then again it's my favorite.
Mine is a Martin 000-16GT. It's been through the wars a bit, but it's played in and begs to be picked up. I see they're discontinued now. Fine guitar.
You asked, what do I have? Gretsch Roots parlor. Great "Sofa" guitar. Everyone that picks it up asks where to get one ...
But these are some nice ones too. I think I like the Alvarez : )
Got an Art & Lutherie Roadhouse as a couch/travel guitar in 2017. Tremendous value for money. Don't know if you have A&L in the UK. They are a Godin brand, made in Canada. Lots of places here in the Northwest carry them.
Adam Sentz
Wow. So rarely hear people mention Art & Lutherie. They are great guitars. They do unique woods too. I had one as my first acoustic. Bought it from a used guitar shop when I was 19. Great guitar. Tough to play a little. Had really high action and was difficult to get it down to a comfortable height, but I got used to it. Traded it for an upgrade, but it was a pretty good guitar.
@@kpag3030 You sand the bridge, it takes half an hour. That's what I did on my roadhouse and it plays great
I think as a smaller acoustic for the sofa or even wander the streets or play at a park, the 3/4 sized, small scale traveller or a parlor size and I like the Luna acoustic guitars.
Sofa guitar terminology, is that the dude that's trying to get some play from his gf by serenading her ?
II want a Guitar Paradiso jam with Mary Spender, Danish Pete and Ariel Posen !!!PLEEEEEASE!!!!
The GS Mini needed to be in here!
Ohhh Danish Pete, you can sit on my sofa and play guitar 24/7 I'd never get bored with your exquisite playing :D
I have a mini Maton. It's not affordable, but it will own the sofa through generations in my opinion!
Which guitar would you recommend to go with my Chesterfield?
That Atkin is beautiful man
5:15 "All the specs". I think many 'd like to know the finish of the neck, satin or high gloss.
Please do a Blackstar Super Fly vs Fishman Loudbox Mini Charge in your awesome show.
Ariel and Mick Taylor would be amazing (Pete is great too). Great video, great guitars
I've got a martin 000-15m. I'm currently sitting on my couch, and it's just a bit too big for a couch guitar. And I'm a big dude. 1,94m (idk how much that is in inches). It's a great recording guitar, and a guitar that inspires me every time I put my hands on it, but it's just a bit too big for sitting on a sofa. Get it, and play it on a chair. :)
Yeah I have 00015m too. It’s not really a sofa guitar. Martin 000 is fairly big. Great guitar
The Atkin is so freaking nice.
I thought they were going to tell me which sofas are good for playing upon. Kidding/not kidding that would be a good video!!
Ariel is my Hendrix, Pete is my Page.
Would liked to have seen the Taylor Big Baby or GS Mini on this list.
Can we please get an epi of the Captain meets Diane ponzio, love to see an update from her, Missed her being at namm
Here you are sir.. ua-cam.com/video/Nb6DKR9XBGU/v-deo.html
Confused. The specs displayed for the Atkins LG47 list Indian Rosewood fb& b, but I thought they used Santos Rosewood (Mia Farrow wood) to make them CITES friendly? For a prospective international customer, that's the difference between having an awesome guitar and having an awesome guitar impounded by customs.
Bloody hell, Ariel...
Would have been nice in include SOMEWHERE fingerboard width at nut! Finger pickers like to know this!
Nice playing guys - in fact, you could say it was "stunking" :-)
What kind of "specs" don't include the key dimensions, such as overall length, scale-length, and above all nut width?
MORE MORE MORE MORE MORE!!!! ACOUSTIC PARADISO
great opening jam should be the 6hour study work relax music
Can't wait to see the martin 000 13e
Love Ariel and Pete 👍🏻
