The Hamilton Khaki Field Mechanical is a purpose-built tool watch that just might be the perfect everyday watch under $500.

Must’ve missed the part where we find out which is better.
Yep, obviously a clickbait guy, not worth following
There isnt one answer, it up to you to decide which is more suited to you, he gave you the advantages of each, you decide
@@l_poci_ Spot on
@@l_poci_I can totally see that. But the lingo implies we’re going to find out which one is better. They literally say “let’s find out”. Was just expecting to get an opinion, that’s all.
Fag
Automatic watches are still mechanical... I think you meant to say "automatic vs hand-winding"
That is true, however, Hamilton specifically calls their hand-wind Khaki the Khaki Mechanical
@@ChronometerCheck ok that's kind of understandable
Yes; automatics are also mechanical.
The confusion arose purely from YT being overwhelmed by people who knew F-all about watches.
@@michaelbedford8017 Yes, both manual-wind and automatic watches are mechanical. But in this vid we are discussing specifically the Hamilton Khaki Automatic and Khaki Mechanical, the name of their hand-wound watch
@@ChronometerCheck thats fucking idiotic
I wear a hand made miniature sundial on my wrist. It is hand carved from a single piece of beautiful quartz.
It is both quartz and mechanical.
However it is difficult to read at night.
Depends on which watch you like. If it’s the original military issue go mechanical to keep true to its history. All others, automatic is more convenient.
Honestly, they're both the same. Hamilton has an insane 80 hour power reserve, meaning it runs 80 hour without a winding for mechanical.
I have a battery powered watch on rn and an automatic one coming as a graduation present. I can't wait to see how it wears!
Exciting! I hope you love it.
It’s not gravity so much. It’s impulse and momentum. An automatic watch can still technically work in space if you are moving your hands
Fair point!
Exactly
Kinetic energy.
Aren’t they both mechanical as opposed to quartz/digital? Automatic vs manual wind perhaps?
Yeah, they're both mechanical. Hamilton specifically calls the hand-wound Khaki the "Khaki Mechanical" and the other the "Khaki Automatic", however.
In the watch community, we refer to them as mechanical (or mechanical hand-wound) and mechanical automatic. Rolex prefers perpetual to convey automatic.
Internet is littered with posts, comments, reviews of the Khaki mechanical having a notoriously bad mainspring. I’d take the auto all day long.
Thanks. I did not know that.
You don't find out! The automatic would have a more consistent spring tension and thus have a more reliable time. The hand wound watch would be fast at the height of the spring wind and slower once the spring is used up. The hand wound mechanical watch would be expected to have more day to day variation because of this.
That's not necessarily true due to isochronism.
This guy knows his simple harmonic motion@@johng.6222
@@johng.6222he’s used to wind up cars
I've got the handwound Hamilton Field Khaki watch and love it. Simple and thin. Less to go wrong. I'm expecting it will last years longer without servicing than an automatic, which will need more frequent servicing.
Do you know if, in general, the hand wound version is more accurate? or is it negligible?
@danielvalles9554 did you know that quartz watches are far more accurate and need no service at all?
@@mamadzregular battery replacement. They suck!
@@MountainRancher suck?
Dude u just need to replace it once in 10 years! And it cost you nothing!
The automatic has a higher water resistance than the manual so I went with the auto.
I love both, as stated below, both are mechanical, I wear manual wind HTM, or grand Seiko automatic.
I don’t put too much love into automatics. I used to only buy them but there are a couple of things to consider.
If you are getting into watches and intend on owning a few, even with a good power reserve if you don’t wear your automatic for a few days it will have stopped anyway. So if youre that type of wearer the difference between hand wind or automatic is irrelevant.
Secondly if you’re buying automatics at the lower end they will possibly be a few minutes out after a week of wear, so again having to reset it anyway/use the crown anyway.
Where did you get that nato on the mechanical?
Great concise explanation!
Thank you very much! Glad it was helpful
Mechanical watches are the relics of the past. Its the mechanical era where electricity was not used or minimally used, watches, cars, fountain pens, pendulum clocks etc. Everything was made from hand. Good times... everything was a bit slower. Internet and smartphones changed it all.
My Hamilton, khaki automatic on bracelet is one of my favorites… Other than the poor Lume and the noticeable lack of anti-reflective coating. It’s an otherwise perfect watch IMO
I like automatics as long as there is hand wind capability.
Well... For a tiny amount of extra time per day, you have to wind it, but its cheaper to buy, without less quality, and thinner aswell. So, I'd argue manual winding mechanical watches are better in terms of value.
I own a Field Khaki Titanium with no complications. I love it's simplicity. If they had made it in manual winding, I would have bought it instead.
Lol it would weigh even less. Lord you’d never know it was on.
An automatic is more accurate because the mainspring holds it winding better...
I go for khaki quartz,
Super accurate with zero quirk,
Grab it and it shows you the time right on your face while the auto and mechanical shows you the watch LOL
Mechanical watch always it makes a personal collection with the watch which result in a strange relationship with watches and their beauty
"lets find out!" didn't found anything out.
you're slow as hell
The first one should I ever owned was a wind-up watch. I have an automatic watch now. I like them both.
Yeah they both have their pros and cons
I personally prefer the mechanical watch, as you physically have to wind it makes it more personal somehow.
Of Cors automatic lar
1. No need to wind - alwiz running as long u wear them
2. No need to be afraid like when the manual juice will die off n being late
3. Overwind manual watch will spoil the mvt
Water resistance to one side, which watch is more durable I.e. will generally take more of a daily beating?
He did not answer his question.
Wind up watch always better but, winding model is irreversible when the watch case is sandblasted and scratched, therefore the standard automatic watch is better because the brush steel and polishing structure can be cleaned , I always recommend brush steel case models to those who are considering Hamilton.
Give me the mechanical hamilton every day. Generally though makes sense to go auto.
The only concern with an automatic is loosing its power after setting it down for a day or two. A hand wind you just get it going for a bit and adjust the time and your off!
The advantage of the automatic is that you don’t have to wind it everyday, but some folks liken that hand winding to a ritual.
Honestly both are marvels in engineering because we can boast as humans that “we made something that small that can keep time for us!”
Plus, there are winding casses for those that don’t wear their automatic everyday.
Gravity is not required to wind an automatic, inertia works 👌
Can the automatic version still be hand wound?
Mechanical is better if the power reserve lasts several days.
Thing with a mechanical watch is that you can overwind it
Eco drive
I rather have the automatic ver of that Khaki Field. Seen some people overwind the manual version and broke the watch mechanism. 😅
mechanical Hamilton has a 80-hour power reserve. Wind every 3 days
Auto is my default recommendation. Hand wound is a niche thing. If you're a first time buyer you might THINK winding sounds fun but the fun quickly wore off for me
what's the exact name of the Hamilton with the nato strap on, the watch itself looks amazing!
Hamilton Kakhi Field Mechanical, owning one it's a cool watch with true historical roots. It's the cheapest one of my collection but it's not à cheap watch by any mean
Hamilton Khaki Mechanical 38mm (strap is third party)
You got it buddy. Thank you
@@ChronometerCheck thanks to you all 😄
Love your voice
Thanks so much!
Are either of these watches EMP proof?
I like the mechanicals for going into the field
Much slimmer on the wrist
What did we find out was better?
The rotor doesn't care about gravity. It's turned by inertia.
You move your arm, the rotor moves also, you stop your arm, however the rotor keeps moving.
That is partially correct. The rotor is weighted to naturally oscillate downward and helps build inertia when self-winding
Solar quartz much better.
Mechanical watches are better if you are not going to wear your watch everyday, automatic need movement else they go crazy, not just stop working, they don't start working when you start wearing them again.
They don't go crazy . Most modern automatic watches can also be hand wound .
So? Which one is it?
I thought it was stupid that people always fuck up automatic manual and mechanical, some people think “automatic” MEANS mechanical because thats what is listed on watch websites but guess what?
HAMILTON CALLS THIS MECHANICAL NOT MANUAL.
Thank you, that's exactly right. Manual wind and automatics are two types of mechanical watches but like you said, Hamilton calls the manual wind Khaki the Khaki Mechanical
Self Winding vs Hand Winding
Personally love mechanical watches
Automatic is more practical. Just appreciate the idea that my movement powers the watch.
I don't think it matters I think it depends on number one how much u want to spend and number two how thick of a watch u want
Funny thing i have automatic watches without manual winding 🤦
Yeah, it's a feature that's not in all automatics, but convenient when it is
I like mechanical 👍 But automatic cool too👍
Honestly a hand wind watch would be useless to me since I would never remember to wind it the automatic is where it's at for me but since I can't afford any good automatic watches I stick to higher-priced quartz watches.
Orient make good automatic watches. Some models like the Bambino and a few diving watches are right around $200. For a little more, $600-800 Tissot has some nice options as well.
Yes.
automatic watches are powered by themselves?
Man, I swear everyone have the same voice now
THEY COPIED ME BRO
💙👍
All automatic watches are mechanical but not all mechanical watches are automatic. So, this nomenclature is not wrong IMO...
Jesus the shine on that automatic Hamilton is shocking.
Both types are a PAIN when you have 8 of them...
Nice video. Not gravity - For a mass M with tangential speed v at radius R, the centripetal force is Fc = Mv2/R. With a period of T, the linear speed is v = 2πR/T and the centripetal force is Fc = 4π2MR/T2. You will change Fc, mass, and radius to measure the effect on the period of rotation.
Thanks! Good detailed explanation
They are both mechanical.
Automatic
I’m too lazy to wind
some people prefer the connection of having a mechanical watch
Yup, winding it is kind of soothing
buy the quartz version and dont worry about it for two years . simple.
So which is better?
Mechanic
What is the meaning of 21 JEWEL or 25 JEWEL sir?
Jewels are little bearings inside of the movement to reduce friction between the parts
It has a reason that the mechanical is higher priced !🤔
Well, if you like a decorated movement hand wound mechanical every time..
Automatic watches are way better, you don't have to worry about over winding the watch
Automatic is overrated IMO. I still hand wind my automatics because I suffer from power reserve anxiety lol. I NEED to know it's full
Which one better? Well... Quartz still the best... 😁 More cheaper practical, & accurate.
I don't understand why Automatic has to be written on the dial., you can see it is automatic just by turning it over.
It is like writing automatic transmission or manual transmission on the back of your car.
And even if the back cover on the watch is solid, they can still write automatic on the back cover, instead of the dial.
Other watches do the same shit.
Rolex, chronometer officially certified. written on the dial. Why? just put it on the back cover.
For a Hamilton Khaki?
Quartz
Automatic is better than manual winding
Hate the loop
Automatic *is* mechanical. It has no electronics, and no battery.
Correct, but here we're referring to the Hamilton Khaki Automatic vs. Mechanical. Hamilton specifically calls their hand-wind Khaki the Khaki Mechanical
So is it normal for an automatic watch to be a couple seconds slow a couple of hours after setting the time on it? I notice with mine after 5-6 hours or so it seems the second hand is a little slow. After overnight it may be 7-8 seconds slow.
I’d just go for quartz ngl
Ay
It possible to oversing and damage the watch, so auto is better.
You never give an opinion on which one is best
I can't afford either so I'd take anyone.
the manual is smaller and cheaper, that's my preference
I love its thin profile!
Quartz is better
Thiner
Lighter
Did I miss something???
They’re both mechanical
Automatic is mechanical but not manual
Quartz trumps all
In what way? Accuracy...
What about when we run out of batteries 😮
Feel free to continue buying them.
Finally..we didn't find which
It's up to you, of course
Bro can you suggest me a good solar watch for under 900 usd for my watch collection
magkano
“Better” 🤨
Quartz life!!!
Both are mechanical. Manual and automatic.
True, both are mechanical. I just wrote it this way since Hamilton literally calls these the Hamilton Khaki Auto and Khaki Mechanical
2 versions of 2 different watches
Yup indeed
Nevermind
