- As the Marvel Legends line continues it seems to be slowly moving away from making the figures look like their comic book counterparts. Can this new version of a classic villain be worth picking up even though he looks more like a middle-aged man in cosplay than a supervillain?

Green Goblin is my favourite . Whenever he shows up you know things will get personal , he's dangerous and unpredictable but also kinda pathetic when he loses which is fun to watch
The sandy head should have an angry expression. Looks great and nice scaling. The BAF is functionally unattainable and the Select sandy leg attachment looks amazing and is probably my favorite.
He should've come with a grinning expression.

Anyone remember that Spider-Man Classic era Sandman with the texturing and the sick sculpt? It had dope accessories and it was something like $10 back in the day. This figure is an embarrassment compared to that one. Those were the days…
I own that figure and he's the best sandman ever made, and still looks great in any display.
@@jboogie8159 J-Boog from B2K... you're right. I own all the Marvel Legends Sandman's. The 2004 Spider-Man: Classics Sandman is still the best.
I have that figure since I was a kid and it is amazing. Only recently I broke his leg off while trying to pose him, so I immediately bought this sandman to replace the toybiz one
I have him rn sadly I lost his accessories but I just bought this one yesterday
Didn't see anyone else mention it, so i will: the body (other than the head and forearms) is a straight repaint of the Hydro-Man body. In my opinion the recent Diamond Select Sandman is much more worth the price; while it has plenty of its own faults, the many accessories make up for it.
I just wish it scaled better but then again, if you throw the lower sand piece on it’s probably very believable
Agreed, he's still on my Marvel Legends shelf and I skipped this figure. Whilst he could pose better, the lower sand piece and his size really helps him stand out in a display, this one I feel would get lost in a display given he's not that much bigger than other Marvel Legends.
@@tomtudorweaver1078 i think it would blend in too much too, yeah. The lack of varied accessories also kinda sucks; the only ones that are included are nice but nothing very large or unique, meanwhile the Diamond Select one has different regular hands and a sand forearms, all of which are painted really nicely. I love it.
Octopus and Hydro-Man are my favorite Spider-Man villain, considering Kingpin as a "Daredevil Villain", Nice figure, but Sandman is one of those characters that custom figures can make him shine a lot more than a regular version of Hasbro.
There’s also a fair amount of lollipop going on with the second head, more so than the one that comes in the package.
Toy-Biz Spider-Man Classics Sandman is still the best iteration of the character put to plastic. Nothing modern comes close to the paint and proportions.
It's a shame that 18 years later and no other company has been able to top that one. Like how? It's 2022 now. SMH
Shocker is my all-time favorite, I'm fully aware he is a c-lister, but I always loved his design and all the quilt-related quips Spider-man put him through. My own son refers to him as waffle-man. There is also that legendary STAS episode where symbiote Spider-man totally wrecks Shocker. Ever since that episode I still occasionally yell out: 'The check's in the mail, baby!'
Am I the only one who thinks that a lot of the recent Spider-Man villains we've been getting from Marvel Legends look like the classic designs, but if they were from modern comic art? Just look at some of the color choices and the head sculpts for Doc Ock, the Vulture, Shocker, Kingpin, and Sandman, there's some stylization there but it lines up more with recent depictions than their earlier appearances. Not that it's a bad thing, but it's a bit weird to me.
For my favorite Spider-Man villain it's a tossup between Electro and Mysterio.
Electro's design, power and simplicity of his character makes him easily entertaining in most of his appearances (although he has the potential to be a far more interesting character). Mysterio though is just a really fun idea and is also probably one of the earliest examples of a meta comic character, in the sense that even in the 60's they acknowledged his costume was goofy and they've not needed to change his character or design much since then because it was never intended to be practical.
My no. 1 favourite Spidey enemy is Doc Ock, then Green Goblin and Kraven the Hunter.
Body was originally the Netflix Luke Cage so that's probably why he looks like "a dude" it works for me but I always interpreted him as more stocky and big than superhero V.
Scorpion or Mysterio would probably be my favorite at least from the animated series. Ive got the toybiz scorpion and he's got that more comic book character meat. Always liked the classic Sandman too and he's also got more appropriate mass and build.
Always liked Doc Ock and the Lizard. I don't know anything about the comics, but the designs are great.

Upper torso apears to be Netflix Luke Cage reuse which may be why it lacks those comic book proportions.

Honestly the Batman zur en arrh figure is really fun in my opinion
It’s really hard to pick a single villain. Gobby is the most evil in my opinion. I love Rhino because he’s a 7 foot tall Russian guy with a cool suit. Shocker kinda sucks as a villain and I think that’s funny. Sandman was freaking awesome in Spider-Man 3. It’s so hard to choose. I think I’m gonna have to go with Green Goblin.
Edit: also lizard is cool. And until recently I had nothing but positive opinions on Morbius. Kraven is also freakin sweet. And Scorpion looks cool. I also really like Electro’s costume. Okay I finally ran out of villains I liked.

My favourite villain is The Hobgoblin, but the version in this line isn't good. I like the figure but I like your photoshop even more.I open them up and throw the packaging in the recycling bin. Not really based on the comic version more so based on the spiderman animated series from 94.
My favorite spiderman villain is Mysterio and that’s even if you include symbiotes. Close seconds are sandman and Doc Ock

Oddly because it's Hasbro you know they made these in theory of people buying 2 one to open one to keep on card... Okay so with that being said I only have one which is kingpin and sadly I wanted to take him out the box but after having him I just couldn't bring myself to do it so now I have to buy a second one hopefully I can get one aftermarket cheaper already opened. Just glad I didn't invest in the original kingpin since I'm new they were going to release again with much better paint applicated....

Anthony, You are great with your job and I don't want argue with you and even though this is not a powerful house of 90s, 2000s Sandman, I still might get him because he does remind me of Steve Ditko's first appearance look, Also my favorite Spidey villain is Green Goblin.
There's no need to argue anyway. Buy what you want and what you like and be happy. My reviews are resources to use as you see fit.

It looks like they used the Motorcycle Punisher Body. Upper and Lower Body.
I have a bunch of my figs on the card still. Some I opened just to remove baf piece and never touched the figure. I do have this one still mint on card..but I want to open it, and then again I don't. So the conflict is real.

I think the angry face should’ve had the sand effects and the calm facial should’ve been the non sand effect.
Do I collect these to keep MOC: Some, I have Gambit and Rogue MOC since the X-Men ones are few and far between, but not the Spiderman ones.
Favorite Spidey villain excluding Symbiotes: I love Mysterio in the same way I love Scarecrow in the Batman universe; Both use elements of mind-screwery and psychology but Mysterio can hold his own in a fight.
If I had a dollar for every time you complained about how the superhero figures today don’t look like superheroes, I’d be a wealthy 😂

Aside from the most common villains (Green Goblin, Doc Ock, Venom etc.) I have always loved Shocker and Scorpion.
Tombstone was my favorite from the show as a kid. He was scary as fuck.

Mysterio because he makes spidey doubt his sense of reality and taps into his fears when done right
Mysterio doesn't access Spider-Man's fears. Mysterio doesn't know what Spider-Man is afraid of. Mysterio only creates illusions with gadgets and machines. You're thinking of Scarecrow from DC who does that to Batman and other people he antagonizes with his fear gas or his fear toxins he injects people with.
My top villain from the animated series was always tombstone.

4:35 the white of the eye being painted is SUPER weird to me. What’s the point of doing that? Just extend the sculpt by 1mm or even don’t paint it all. It’s so weird having a blob of white in the middle of the head.
