I guess that in the modern game, the one-hander is not a great match-up against the two-handed backhand, at least in a baseline-to-baseline defensive contest.
Is it much stranger than in men, though? I can only name three women who sport a single-handed backhand: Golubic, Gasparyan (who is semi-retired) and Parry. But it's not that I know more than three men who use a single-handed backhand either.
