IVF in the US the Shocking cost

  • In this video we break down the costs of IVF in Italy vs the USA. This is mainly for those that are curious about the overall process, or for those that might be looking to go abroad for IVF and need some information. We check differences between the egg retrieval, embryo transfer, IVF medication and PGT-A testing. We'll also discuss why we are doing egg banking rather than embryo banking. We've gotten a lot of questions about this since it's well known that embryos survive freezing better than eggs. And finally, we will talk about all the things we're doing differently for this second egg retrieval. You already know about the acupuncture, but we talk about different medications, diet, etc. Let us know if you have other questions that we can try to answer in future videos!

My Son & DIL's first baby arrived 2 days ago. So thankful for IVF !
She would not be here without it. The first 3 transfers did not take. They never gave up & fortunately the 4th transfer was the blessing! Their embryos were frozen as well.
Best wishes to you both. It can be a long journey as you are finding out. But, so worth it!

We were fortunate that we have medical insurance that covers infertility and IVF. We were so blessed to have a great fertility doctor here in Texas. We just had 1 round of embryo transfer with our one and only embryo and we’re currently 34 weeks pregnant.
With insurance, all the test that we’ve done including PGT, egg retrieval, embryo transfer and all our medications.. our co-pay for everything if summed up around $4,500.
We recommended 2 of our friends with our fertility doctor and both are pregnant with their first embryo transfer. Blessed to have our doctor.
Praying for both of you and good luck with your IVF journey 🙏🏽

With the progesterone shots, we warmed the vile in hot water which really helped thin out the oil making it easier to inject. It was a big help. My wife also alternated sides if one was more sore than the other. She had some sort of prescribed lidocaine that really helped numb the area prior to insertion and a warm cloth applied after which preventing knotting. Best of luck to the two of you my wife is 30 weeks pregnant after trying for over 5 years. We love your videos and are praying for you!

Good luck with your journey. I struggled with infertility for a few years before having my twins. No one was really talking about the topic that much back then and I felt so alone dealing with it. It was because of my PCOS, and my husband was fine, and I felt such frustration with my body for not being able to do something everyone else seemed to do without even trying. I love that you are sharing your journey so other people won't feel so alone.

Don’t be scared of the PIO shots! I’m doing them for the third time now and have not had issues. I’ve found it helpful to ice before the shot and move afterward - a few lunges and squats and a 15-20 minute walk. Then sit with a heating pad afterward. My husband does the shots for me and I can’t feel them at all. You’ve got this!!

    • @CoachingwithSimona

Agreed! PIO is not as bad as many people say… I’d add do not rub the area after the shot. I did the shots myself (yes, twisting all the way to reach my back, but I just preferred that way than having my husband do it). I did PIO only when I was pregnant though, to support the pregnancy.. I don’t think you need PIO for stimulation…

$100,000 for my two DuoStim IVF rounds (4 total, with meds, scans, tests, etc.) last year in 2024 in Mississippi and it all had to be PAID UP FRONT beforehand! Our insurance didn’t cover anything at all. We took out a Home Equity loan (second mortgage) on the house and maxed out our credit cards. 🥁
I’m now 13-weeks pregnant with our perfectly healthy and strong baby!!! We will still be paying for IVF when our baby goes to college and probably even when they are getting married and working on babies themselves lol. ❤ Yes it may not work, but what if it does??!!! I'm glad you finally succeeded in getting pregnant and hope your baby will be healthy. However, I was shocked when you mentioned taking a second mortgage on your house and having accumulated debts that you will repay over the next 20/25 years. Many things may happen over this period of time which may make your situation difficult: are you sure it was a worthy path? Wouldn't it have been more advisable to consider adoption?

    • @lauraellerman9443
      @lauraellerman9443 6 днів тому +3

@ Adoption was always a possibility and would have also required a second mortgage with our estimated costs reported as $55,000-$75,000 from the adoption agency (and that was only if everything goes smoothly with lawyers, birth parents, etc.).
We had to choose which path to put the money towards, so we prayed on it & chose IVF, and I am so very very very thankful 🙌🏻 we did. Both IVF and Adoption can end up with only a six-figure bill and no child in the end heartbreakingly - it’s such an incredible leap of faith to go for either. Adoption is a beautiful thing and I hope everyone, fertile & infertile, considers adoption for the right reasons and have financial access to make it possible. 🙏🏻

Housing can be expensive, let's say you rent a house as a tourist in a big city. That would be 2000/3000 euros per month. Still a lot cheaper and you get to be a tourist in a beautiful country. I really hope this works for you two, it seems like the stars are in alignment for you! As for diet, I think you are doing exactly the right thing. I have an autoimmune disorder and there are lots of people out there with advice about diets that supposedly lower inflammation, but they are 1. impossible to stick to, and 2. only work for some people. After lots of informal research, I have come to the conclusion that the two most important things are to maintain a healthy weight (and obviously, Jesse is doing that) and eat a balanced healthy Mediterranean diet (which is pretty much what Alessio described). I worked with a dietitian who explained that the added stress of sticking to a strict diet is not healthy either :)

PIO tips-Warm your muscle and the PIO vial with a heating bad for about 10 minutes. Lie face-down on a bed, and bend your hip so that your knee on the shot side is closer to your shoulder, contracting the muscle a little. Relax, and have Allesio give you the shot close to the top of the circled area. I did this, and only had to have the shot every 3 days-I found it preferable to the egg retrieval meds. Also have heard good things about using the thigh muscle, but my clinic didn't want me to. Best wishes to you!

Standard IVF is about the same in Italy as it is in the UK then. This is good to know!
We're starting the meds for our first round of IVF next week too! Even got a date night planned for Friday (authentic Italian pizza!) so we can get a night to ourselves before the meds kick in. It's kind of comforting knowing there's another couple across the pond going through it at the same time. Praying for all 4 of us 🙌❤

Good luck you two! No diet change helped with my endometriosis either, but I guess it makes some people feel like they're more in control. I had to stop the down-regulation process during my first try because the oestrogen was getting out of hand and we moved to stimulation straight away for the second try. It was a lot to take mentally, but if there's even the slightest chance you take it, of course. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you guys! Thanks for keeping us updated

I had a similar journey. Endometriosis (less severe) and then premature ovarian failure. I wish you all the best!
As far as the PIO, we warmed the oil gently while icing my bum before injections. My body was not tolerant of the oil. We switched the type of oil with no better luck. With my 2nd IVF cycle, we just did suppositories. And we had a successful pregnancy!
In our second cycle, we added acupuncture and a micro-dose flare. I do believe they were helpful!

I didnt want to make one more recommendation to add to the noise, but CoQ10 supplements can be a game changer, please do some research and make your call. Also, icing the spot for almost 20-30 mins before progesterone shots helps and these shots arent that bad, you got this. All the very very best!!! Sending you good vibes and wishes for a whole dozen eggs and hopefully more!!

You are such a humble couple and so kind wanting folks to donate to other causes. I understand you want your own genetic eggs (of course anyone would) but if that fails could you consider egg adoption and fertilize with Alessio sperm and still transfer so that you still get to become pregnant.
Common sense to eating is all anyone needs, I don't like people telling others to cut out this or that and eat more this or that. It's not a one size fits all and baby making is sooo much more that just diet.
I have all my fingers and toes crossed that this is your year to have your little bambina or bambino 💕

Yet they wonder why the U.S. national birth rate has gone down with fewer babies being born. The government is encouraging couples to have more children but people who WANT babies receive no help from their insurance & go through so much trouble & expense to become parents. But abortions are a different story!

I really admire your strength and love that endures even during this challenging experience. Your hope and faith during this time to keep going is truly remarkable. Faith is the fertile soil where miracles can grow! Thank you for sharing the cost difference between Italy and US. I'm curious, was it still less expensive going to Italy for the IVF treatments even with the travel costs?

  • @stacyderouin4502

The US is a bit crazy to compare costs, because it depends on what insurance you have which causes costs to vary quite a bit. Our IVF was covered completely, meds were covered with a copay. We had 6 IUI attempts covered, and up to 6 IVF attempts covered. We were really fortunate. Insurance and state laws causes it to vary widely-which is really frustrating!

MY JOB'S INSURANCE PAID FOR IVF WITH A $30,000 CAP.
I did three IVF rounds with pregnancy than miscarriages. I had reached my insurance cap.
THEN - I got a new job! My new job had the same IVF insurance coverage.
Yay - I got pregnant on my first try with my new job and my doctor was very careful (lots of protocols). I had a successful pregnancy with twin girls.
Each IVF round my doctor implanted three eggs (the maximum he will implant) and I had banked numerous eggs during my first round. And was able to use all my eggs.

I did PIO and it wasn’t bad in terms of pain. I had skin reaction to several oils so had to change the oil several times. Warm up the oil with your body heat. Don’t draw the oil past the hub. I think it was the oil leaking and around skin that caused skin irritation. Then rub and move the area. I used a bottle of beer to cool my skin with both kids. It’s still in my fridge and they are not babies. 😂
I appreciate you guys being so transparent and redirecting the financial offers. And also not being too ridiculous with the eating. Good luck!

We are in Australia and we did IVF via a public company. It reduced the cost significantly. All up it cost us $10000 for the whole thing but the government covered $5000 of this so we were only out of pocket $5000. We were lucky to have it work on the first go but it’s sad how you don’t have these options available to you in the U.S

It was back in 2018 and thankfully got pregnant with twins on the first try but it was not easy at all. I was alone for the first few months but all worth it. I will be trying for the 1st time in the USA because my insurance covers some of it. I am eager to start but very nervous

I did IVF 18 years ago to have my son ( have endo too), the PIO isn't really that bad, some people liked to numb the area with ice first but I didn't need to do that and I even ended up giving myself the shots for the last new weeks b/c my husband wasn't always home at he right time. I am a retired nurse so was used to giving shots but was interesting to figure out how to give IM shot to myself in my 'backside" Best of luck!

I wish you best of luck!!! Also went through ivf (endometriosis reason as well), 7 eggs retrieved, 3 fertilized, just 1 attached (currently almost 4 year old amazing boy). Pio shots are not that bad as people say, most important thing is to totally relax the muscles, I mean all leg on the side where shot will be given! Before the transfer we did Lupron for 2 months to calm down my endometriosis, do not know if that was the reason embryo attached, who knows. It is super difficult process as you know but all worth it. I keep fingers crossed and although do not know you I hope you have very best outcome!
