To be fair, without Kagrenac's Tools, nothing is a threat to the heart and Dagoth Ur is powerful enough to kill anything that enters the Heart Chamber. The only threat to Dagoth Ur was the Nerevarine because he's immune to Corprus and (by the lore) had gathered Kagrenac's Tools to destroy the heart.
"I'm a God! How can you kill a God?" Is brilliant, as you actually don't kill Dagoth, he falls into lava as the bridge collapses. I like to think he actually *didn't* die, but was burned so horribly he was forced to stay in the volcano until it erupted. Maybe he caused it with the power of the shattered heart. Be interesting if TES 6 expanded on Dagoth a bit more - it is possible for mortals to become gods after all. Maybe there's an unworshipped 10th divine - Dagoth Ur - The God of Technology, Betrayal and *Welcoming Moon-and-Star*
Raptorcyclone That's when mods shine! TES somehow never gets their Final Bosses good. - Tes 3 -> Dagoth Ur (a god) falls off the bridge and dies. - Tes 4 -> Which Boss fight? You do all the shit and watch Martin killing Mehrunes Dagon. - Tes 5 -> Alduin is a fucking Dragon Reskin..... The Add-Ons/DLC gave us the actual cool fights. Hircine/Kaastag, Yggalag, Harkon, Miraak....
I remember doing this mission, as a 11 year old kid late at night on a school night. I was sweating so much, my hands were shaking, the tension was too much. To this day Morrowind still gives me the creeps.
Agreed. I can't really explain it, but the "danger" in morrowind is much more palpable... I remember the first time I ran into the guy who falls from the sky, right outside of seyda neen... It absolutely scared the hell out of me. Running into a 2 or three bandits could very well be the end of your life. Magicka doesn't regen naturally... That said, you become freakishly strong, given enough time. Being able to create your own spells... Levitation... Etc. The game felt more like an RPG, like D&D...which is obviously where this game came from. It's sad what has happened to this franchise. Now it's more like a first person shooter, but with swords. Very sad.
Remember all the gods and heros of Morrowind were not good people. The Nerevarine and Azura included. It's part of what made the story in this game so great, no matter who's side you looked at, they were all using the people of Morrowind for their own personal gains, and in the end ended up double crossing each other.
yeah it is the epitome of the stereotype of the dark elf race in fantasy genre. However Morrowind tries to reinvent the dark elf mythology into something new and revolutionary to fantasy fiction. they are not just an evil corrupted race. they are actually multidimensional people with their own context and narratifes on how they came to be and developed as a culture.

Does anyone else see a striking number of similarities between Dagoth Ur and Gollum? -corrupted and driven insane by powerful artifact of ancient enemy of the elves -subsequent actions lead to death of best friend -lived in a cavern beneath a mountain isolated for a long period of time -body and mind warped to a state where he forgets details of his former life -dies by falling into volcano as said artifact is destroyed -refers to self in third person (okay DU does maybe once)
>ancient enemy of the elves The Dwemer WERE elves, and weren't the Chimer's enemy until Voryn Dagoth learned of Kagrenac and the Numidium. >subsequent actions lead to death of best friend Eh, debatable. Nerevar could already have been dying before Dagoth was corrupted. >forgets details of his former life You what?
RakeMerger > I'm referring to Lorkhan when I say ancient enemy, as he waged war against the Aedra who were the ancestral spirit to the elves. When Lorkhan lost, Akatosh shot his heart using Auriel's bow into the sea, and Red Mountain formed around it, making the heart of Lorkhan the extremely powerful and coveted artifact to parallel the One Ring and Sauron. >While Nerevar was consulting Azura, he told Voryn Dagoth to watch after the heart, which poisoned his mind and body while he was gone. When he came back he asked for the tools, upon which Dagoth refused and attacked him. I know the Ashlanders made a conflicting account in the game, but one can assume that they are only publishing documents that would portray the tribunal in a slanderous light. It's clear Nerevar's Council did some questionable stuff, but Vivec tells it straight to the Nerevarine that Dagoth Ur mortally injured Nerevar in their fight, and he doesn't really have a reason to lie at this point. Whether or not the Tribunal killed him later and seized the tools, Dagoth still set up Nerevar to die, just like Smeagol killed his best friend Deagol when he was charmed by the One Ring. > Dagoth Ur is a mad god and was still lingering in Red Mountain because his will and essence was corrupted by the heart, just like the ring twisted Gollum's mind and prolonged his life, to where he forgot his original nature and identity. In Dagoth's case, he isn't just a wretched hobo like Gollum, but his new position as a god because of the heart came with the belief he is upholding a duty to Morrowind that was never really his own. He is pretty much still living in the First era, while the rest of the world has moved on. There is no more Voryn Dagoth, just a nationalistic force of nature that wants more or less world domination. In one of the dialogue options with Dagoth Ur, we learn that he believes he was justified in protecting the heart, and that Nerevar wrongfully killed him while he was still carrying out his duty, making him a vengeful spirit that wants to take fate of Tamriel into his own hands.
Perhaps with the Nerevarine redeeming the Dunmer and bringing justice to the Tribunal Azura finally fully accepted them once more and her change in appearance reflected this? ie. Up until the Nerevarine fulfilling the prophecy the Chimer were her chosen people and afterwards she accepted the Dunmer as such
OH GOD ALL OF THOSE KEYS. I had to pause the video at 5 seconds to collect myself. I have played this game every few months for the past decade and the keyring is the single greatest mod ever created.
John Samnath Doing a remaster for this game would basically be re making the whole game. It's not like Skyrim where they can simply dump it on a new engine and slap some shiny paint on. They would have to rebuild the whole structure. There are mods that boost the graphics to that of Oblivion and better, and they're still being produced.
Saulo RNS Skywind is going to be horrible, the Skyrim enginemisses a lot of features Morrowind has. Just one example is the greatly reduced amount of equipment slots.
John Samnath I’ve long asked for this. If it had more voice acting I would have definitely played it through. I stopped just because it was so different, I wasn’t used to it.
* sees bonewalker , sprints away*. Seriously though fuck those creatures, cliff racers might be annoying , but not annoying enough to make you drop loot in order to go restore stats.
Gabriel Hernandez Personally, nothing. Just make sure you install the mod overhaul 3.0, and activate "shortcut key improvement" in the code patch section, to better manage inventory and dialogues. Anything that at first glance seems annoying in the game can be solved. Missing hits? train agility and make sure to choose a type of weapon as primary skill and stick with it in the beginning. No fast travel? use mage guild teleporters and mark and recall spells. No quest markers? read the journal and ask around to npc. Lost in Vvanderfell? use the map on uesp wiki. These are some tips that hope can be useful to overcome the initial impact with the game :)
Half of the problems you've listed are actually quite liked in the TES community, or at least those who like immersion, which is a very important thing in these games. The only trully anoying problem would be missing hits, but I personnaly think it makes sense, and that it is understandable from an old rpg view point.
I love these game mechanics too, that's part of what makes this game so immersive. My intention was not to mention them as problems, but as features that at first glance can be annoying for a new player but that can be actually enjoyed once you know how this game works.
I can't get over how different this is from the usual taunting of the antagonist when you enter their lair. He really welcomes you and treats you like a long lost friend. This is so refreshing to see. I haven't played Morrowind but for this very reason, for this one character, I would.
I've never played this game, but I saw a few memes about Dagoth Ur and wondered if this was a "that was dumb let's make him a meme" kind of situation or a "that was so cool let's make him a meme" and from this video, I would say it's the latter. The character of Dagoth Ur really has a noble quality to the way he speaks that's never over-the-top. He does not taunt the player, except during the battle when he says that attacking him is foolish (but c'mon, who wouldn't say that). I also like how he has questions for the player, and invites the player to ask him questions. Even though he knows there will be a fight to the death, he cares about knowledge and personal interaction. It seems a shame for him to die. I also like the subtlety of the gameplay, art style, and voice acting, as opposed to most flashy modern styles.
+Ashes of Dagoth so very complex... right..A complex character is one that you know and meet across your adventure. is built up to. Dagoth is just about as complex as the dialogue box that he greets you in. Paper thin without any real depth. he's a great villain, but far from being the MOST complex character in ALL of TES series. The most complex, objectively, from a writers stand point, is Mankar Camoran. He presents himself in the story once before you defeat him, and his threat and relevance in the story is constant, instead of doing fuck-all while you're out picking flowers and like dagoth, there's no sense of Urgency in stopping him, not even the illusion of one, there's nothing happening to major cities that threaten to wipe them off the map, there's nothing. The tribunal Expansion and the Bloodmoon expansions have much more complex villains as characters, Almalexia is built up in the story, and she is shown to be immensely powerful, her motives are made clear and there's a sense of urgency during the quest of getting to the bottom of things.
+John Blood Hm well, it was perhaps wrong to use an superlative. And apparently I used the word "complex " wrong, because I'm sure you didn't understand what I wanted to say. My bad, blame my english. Nevertheless, in my opinion he is one of the most interesting characters I encountered in the TES Series, just because his past and specially the events in the heartchamber are not so well known and let so much room for interpretation and conspiracy theories.
Mankar Camoran, come on man. He was just an insane cultist, how was he more relevant to Oblivion than Dagoth Ur was to Morrowind? Most people that played Oblivion wouldn't remember his name. Camoran is evil because he's evil. Dagoth Ur has legitimately understandable reasons behind everything he does and has an actual connection to the player, he needed the Nerevarine to gather the things he needed for him so he didn't interfere and let things play out. He has an 11 phase plan, yes it's all just background lore but that's still a part of his character, Camoran just stole an amulet. People sympathise with Dagoth Ur, no one cares about Camoran. You see the visible effects of Dagoth Ur's power, Mehrunes Dagon you don't even interact with and is the real threat in Oblivion.
I love how they took real-world lore and implemented it into the game. Perfectly executed. The Mesopotamian god Shamash inhabited a volcano nearby their land and he would 'send dreams' from the volcano/mountain. Ring a bell? The elves are like all the 'mongoloids' put together... Dwemmer are obviously based on the Sumerians though with their technology and whatnot. Everything else is a clusterfuck.
What I find ironic is that despite dagoth being evil, I think that if he won the dunmer would of been better off than if the nerevarine won. The nerevarine took the divine power away from vivic almalexia and sotha sil. Both almalexia and sotha sil die, vivec disappears, the volcano erupts, argonians attack, then morrowind is destroyed. I wonder what would of happened if dagoth won and took full control of the heart.
He tells you exactly what would have happened in the final dialogue. He would have spread the Blight beyond Vvardenfell, converted the Dunmer and lead a conquest of Tamriel with Akulakhan, with himself as its god-king.
Not even close to being best game of all time, not even best rpg game. There are some role-playing games better than Morrowind - like Fallout:New Vegas
I Remember being a massive fan of areana, daggerfall, morowind & a bit of oblivion (Never got the time to play 4 . Then I see my kid playing Skyrim... It seems the game is gunna be a family tradition xD
Dagoth Ur is such a good villain. He isn't insane or somehow evil by birth. He has his own set of believes about what is best for his kind. Misguided as he might be, he has legitimate grievances with the world he seeks to correct, but what he seeks to correct those things into are malformed. Twisted. He seeks a new world, but can't see beyond his own archaic values and morals, which eventually lead to his downfall. Bethesda don't write villains like this anymore, the closest I can think of are Caesar and Mr. House from FNV, but even that wasn't Bethesda's writing team. You can see why he mustn't be allowed to succeed and why he can't be talked down. He knows this too, he doesn't try to convince you to join his cause, because to him, there is too much at stake to let you deceive him, even potentially. He even reminisces of what could have been if you maybe could have been convinced. What a fantastic villain.
Ikr? It's like they wrote thousand pages in a story book and ended everything with the simple phrase "...and then they all died". I was also somewhat unimpressed by the fact that a lot of what I did wasn't canon. (Ex: Neloth not dying)
cristy Knish Because you have the sole right in determining what is canon (inb4 head canon). Dagoth Ur says "what are you doing? No, you fool!" when Nerevarine strikes the Heart of Lorkhan. The reason why the Aedra didn't destroy the Heart was because it was tied to all existence.
cristy Knish Dark elves lost their homeland and had to migrate to other hostile lands to escape the cataclysm Some hero the Nerevarine turned out to be...
this was rushed - without doing any tasks for caius cosades took my time and killed-off and soul trapped ALL beings in ALL red mountain strongholds before mounting the attack. had alot of summoned golden saints, daedroths and ogrims do my fighting for me.
Oh man, never knew about the Heart Ring in the doorway despite plaything through this game so many times. Morrowind is truly the give that keeps giving
I didn't get into Morrowind from the first try. A console guy at the time, I much more preferred Skyrim, and Morrowind seemed to me overly complex (I know, I know... Don't judge me). But at the third time I decided to give it a try, it unexpectedly griped me! It got me good... Now, for me personally, Oblivion is not canon (it's a bit too primitive) and Skyrim is 50/50. The atmosphere, the believability of the world, the story, the music... Even the vanilla graphic, that I learned to appreciate!.. Morrowind is pure art!
This is why I like the community, the option of joining House Dagoth is present and you can experience an alternate view of the world Bethesda has created.
+CaptainCrunch iirc, Bethesda wanted to put that option in the game but due to constraint (time, budget, and/or technology of then) wouldn't allow that. Hell, they would of made it be all of Morrowind rather than Vvardenfell. Just imagine how the grasp of House Dagoth would of been had they used all of Morrowind.
Honestly the main quest of Morrowind is a lot shorter than you'd think. It was such a great story and I'm so excited to play through ALL of Morrowind again when Skywind gets released. It will be amazing being able to go back through the game with enhanced visuals and graphics and see the story unfold again. It also opens the game up to people who can't get past the "dated" mechanics, graphics, etc of Morrowind. Everyone should play through Morrowind, at least once. The story, the lore, all of it is incredible.
Definitely. Or at least make it easlity compatible with a joystick and somehow fix a form of fast travel, so people can enjoy it without putting their real lifeon pause for too much backpain.
***** I would just wait for Skywind, morroblivion still has a lot of bugs and uses the god awful gamebryo engine that oblivion uses, it looks awful, and morrowind with MGSO 3.0 often looks much better. Also the faces in Oblivion and Morrowblivion look MUCH worse than the faces in Morrowind with a texture replacer.
I liked how the prophecy was quite vague and how there were other Incarnates before our hero. It raises questions if he really is Nerevar reborn or just some random guy who just happened to be extremely resourceful (or lucky) to survive and too determined (or stupid) to just give up and get the hell out of here. Dagoth Ur's first question allows us to give our own opinion about the entire plot. You might for example, accept your seemingly pre-destined role (I am Nerevar reborn) or remain sceptical to the very end (I am a self-willed hero) and whatever the truth is, it doesn't matter. Hero gets the job done and thus becomes Nerevarine. Brilliant writing.
I love this guy's voice. I know a lot of people thought he didn't sound evil enough, but to me that was the point. Dagoth Ur wasn't your generic villain; he was a genuinely good guy who unfortunately fell into madness.
Tarlo The Boar just my opinion, but oblivion’s story is just ok (with great moments ), and skyrim combat ain’t too good either. Having said that it would be awesome if they take the best from each one.
"What a fool you are. I'm a god. How can you kill a god? What a grand and intoxicating innocence. How could you be so naive? There is no escape. No Recall or Intervention can work in this place. Come. Lay down your weapons. It is not too late for my mercy."
I'm about to do this part. I've waited so many years to get to this part. I've never ever beaten Morrowind in my whole life. Ever since I first played it on Xbox.
His voice is amazing, it sounds like he knows what hes talking about and understand things that are outside of the box. Also he sounds very intelligent, much better than your everyday villain with the angry scary voice. Some people say he might still be alive due to the heart stone/ash spawn in dragonborn.
The ending cutscene always gives me chills. All that time you spent working for your goals makes the end so worth it, the game doesn't hold your hand. It has consequences in the world and people treat you like a hero. In skyrim everything is given to you in a silver plate. You're the one mythical dragonborn who is born with amazing ability to learn the shouts (it's an awesome game mechanic tho). After you kill Alduin, people still treat you like the same day when you left Helgen. In Morrowind, some people even consider that you're not the Chosen One, just a guy who simply had lots of coincidences but worked hard to fulfill the prophecies. The Dagoth Ur seemed like a real threat that could potentially dominate and enslave Tamriel or even Nirn (his followers and cult bases where everywhere even in the cities), Dragons felt like some big beasts that didn't hurt anyone unless provoked. If they could have a twist maybe at the end that Alduin could take a human form and then fight him like Miraak (except without the whole hermeus killing him at the end bullshit) which was a much better antagonist IMO. One thing IMO that could greatly improve the main quest in Alduin is that if the all the cities were being burned one by one just like in Helgen like once every 2 weeks if you start progressing the main quest once you officially become the Dragonborn. Alduin is destroying the world and people are dying by the thousands. Once you defeat Alduin and use some weird space-time Elder Scrolls magic in Sovengarde, Skyrim would be restored along with its people but with the knowledge that you saved the world.
"You are the challenger. To you goes the first blow."

Talos became god after all.
The volcano erupted because a moon finally hit it.
Of course its possible for mortals to become gods. Have you ever heard of Tiber septum?

Does anyone else see a striking number of similarities between Dagoth Ur and Gollum?
-corrupted and driven insane by powerful artifact of ancient enemy of the elves
-subsequent actions lead to death of best friend
-lived in a cavern beneath a mountain isolated for a long period of time
-body and mind warped to a state where he forgets details of his former life
-dies by falling into volcano as said artifact is destroyed
-refers to self in third person (okay DU does maybe once)
There are many similarities beetween TES and LOTR, Skyrim it's probably based in one of the J.R Tolkien stories.
He clearly falls in at 7:30
>ancient enemy of the elves
The Dwemer WERE elves, and weren't the Chimer's enemy until Voryn Dagoth learned of Kagrenac and the Numidium.
>subsequent actions lead to death of best friend
Eh, debatable. Nerevar could already have been dying before Dagoth was corrupted.
>forgets details of his former life
You what?
No, they're really not similar characters, at all

+sammuel282 because the dunmer are the chimer according to the elder scrolls lore
I think it’s just the lighting
If you were a god, wouldn't you? Messing with petty mortals sounds fun to me :P

Personally, nothing.

*"Come, take this thing from hand of god."*
Sends shivers down my spine.
Dagoth Ur...the most complex character of all TES series in my opinion.
John Blood “Ur-gency” I see what you did there.
You’ve obviously never met M’aiq The Liar...
i just realized that i've never actually watched the akulakhan collapse. i always booked it outta there when i beat dagoth ur.
I would join him in a heartbeat.
Chris Ur no es universe has nothing to do with real world lore
Undying Titan way to miss the point completely
The examples you discuss are not examples of Mongoloid races.

I would like to join Dagoth Ur :(
Dagoth Ur is such a good villain.
And in Skyrim we learned that everything you did in this game was for absolutely nothing.

I would just wait for Skywind, morroblivion still has a lot of bugs and uses the god awful gamebryo engine that oblivion uses, it looks awful, and morrowind with MGSO 3.0 often looks much better. Also the faces in Oblivion and Morrowblivion look MUCH worse than the faces in Morrowind with a texture replacer.
+Moozilbee True
Only if they keep the experience intact AND add to it. If they release a remake that is streamlined as Skyrim is they can shove it down their asses.
I think he's running this on the school computer I used to learn about homerow keys and typing back in '97

Tarlo The Boar just my opinion, but oblivion’s story is just ok (with great moments ), and skyrim combat ain’t too good either. Having said that it would be awesome if they take the best from each one.
@@santiagoharte3281 True. Skyrim had hack and slash style combat put I prefer that over the Morrowind Combat.
I'd rather something with Skyrim's exploration, Morrowind's story, and Oblivion's gameplay, because that's what I thought was the best of those games
@@valkaerie8715 That'd be great too. Taking each games best elements
"What a fool you are. I'm a god. How can you kill a god? What a grand and intoxicating innocence. How could you be so naive? There is no escape. No Recall or Intervention can work in this place. Come. Lay down your weapons. It is not too late for my mercy."
That moment when you realize that Dagoth Ur and Ulfric Stormcloak basically wanted the same thing
I'm about to do this part. I've waited so many years to get to this part. I've never ever beaten Morrowind in my whole life. Ever since I first played it on Xbox.
Wish they would remaster
play skywind then pdojekt skywind
“I defy you, Heart-Man!”
His voice is amazing, it sounds like he knows what hes talking about and understand things that are outside of the box. Also he sounds very intelligent, much better than your everyday villain with the angry scary voice. Some people say he might still be alive due to the heart stone/ash spawn in dragonborn.
Lay down your weapons , it's not too late for my mercy ooh ooh. XD
Your blunt weapon skill increased to 69
nice
Pretty amazing at how many people such as myself still play this!
I’m a god! How can you kill a god? What a grand and intox-
🗡️❤️
Wait! What are you doing? Stop! You fool!
Man I wana joined my pal dagoth ur we killed him but he forgive us and when we strike him he still gave as a chance
