Really nice take on the topic! As an avid caver and horror-fan (I love The Descent! :D ) I find your explanation, how caves just unsettle you, really interesting. Because, for me it's quite the opposite - I actually feel kinda *safe* down undergrund. I can't even say, why - maybe because while you're in a cave, all other troubles and problems are just completely irrelevant for the time being? Nothing matters except the next step. No internet bullshit to rot your brain with down there. No worries about anything but primal survival. Experiencing true darkness - on every trip we do this at least once, we switch out all our lights, don't speak a word and just let our brains go nuts... :D It's an experience you simply can't have in our brighty lit world anymore - "light pollution" is a thing, especially if you live in a city. Then there is the adrenalin, of course, the physical as well as psychological challenge of climbing and crawling, but also the sheer awe-inspiring beauty of the underground world. Additionally, exploring and finally measuring, charting and naming yet unknown caves or cave sections is a big part of the hobby - caves are kind of the last frontiers on earth, and where else will you ever have the opportunity to set foot on soil where man has never tread before? (I don't fear to find some dangerous animal species down there, because that's just nonsense, fun story for movies, but completely unrealistic :D ) ... and so on ... Phew, somehow I'm just rambling ... point is, I think I can't *really* explain what draws me into caves again and again, like other people can't really rationalize what causes deeply rooted fear of caves in them. Both is not really, completely *rational*. Caves are ... just something else. Something special. :)
This is incredible! That was a really interesting read, thank you for sharing. I’ll leave exploring the underground frontier to you, because I wouldn’t be able to convince my mind there isn’t some cave crawler right behind me! Stay safe down there!
@@PreparedMotion Another thing, when I come to think about it - it seems like either you are totally into caving or you don't do it at all. Personally, I don't know anyone who goes caving "every then and now" - those who are into caving seem to be *really* into it and use every opportunity to get underground. :D Also many cavers do this for a long time, it's not something you just do while you're young and then stop when you get older - many of the cavers I know are 50+ years old and doing this for decades now. So, there definitely is some kind of fascination with caves that just draws some people in completely ...
Great video. If you didn't know, The Descent (classic movie and a personal fave) has 2 endings. Also, don't watch the sequel. It's not good. subscribed. And since you mentioned it, there is a "Ted the Caver" UA-cam live action UA-cam series well worth watching, very loyal to the source material.
In the stories Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, The Silmarillion by J.R.R. Tolkien is told that there are creatures that inhabit and roam the deepest and darkest places of Middle Earth. these creatures are called "Nameless Things" While I'm here watching your video explaining about the scary cave, I'm sure that similar creatures live and reside there. because we never know what creatures live in deep and dark caves or in the deepest holes in the bowels of the earth

Nice video dude! Definitely earned a subscribe from me.❤ I love The Decent as well. The sequel isn’t as good, but I still enjoyed it.
Thank you! I heard it sorta ruins the dark ending of the first movie, so I haven’t seen it
