Honestly, in all the musical genre's i've learned about i never thought "Pirate Metal" would ever even exist let alone become one of my favorite subgenre's of metal

Nice catch, I wouldn't have known that, I only just found them today rather randomly by watching a rocked out version of "Diggy Diggy Hole". I then got a lot of music suggestions, found a channel called "A Pirate's Life" watched 'Varend Volk - This Night We Spend Ashore' and somebody in the comments mentioned "Alestorm". It's been one hell of a rabbit hole, and I don't regret a bit of it.

Look up Storm Seeker. They're an up and coming pirate metal band from Germany. One of their members has actually performed with Alestorm on a couple of occasions.

Really, same. I love them for being able to sing along, jump along, and learn stuff I'd never have otherwise. Excellent history teachers & amazing live (seen once in '19.. couldn't go last year).
Blind Guardian is my other favorite, although I prefer their older albums to the last couple. But even though they're not growly (Hansi being one of the best vocalists in existence currently), for a while after finding them I'd sit around with lyrics to learn every layer of songs they sing. English isn't my first language nor theirs, and some songs are hella more complex than Sabaton. It's metal about fantasy and books, so I even tried to read all the books they based songs on (starting out they had already covered many I read). It was a really fun journey, few of those books are living rent free in my head as life lessons. Unfinished though.. I fell out of reading for some reason. Prob depression. 🤷♀️

TheConspiredOne Since the joke seemed to fly further over your head than a 747, allow me to explain it for you.
In America, college freshmen are 18 to 19 years old, which places them below the legal drinking age. As such, they are unable to purchase their own alcohol, and descend upon parties like a swarm of locusts hellbent on drinking everything they can get their hands on.
I made the comparison that, much like the pirates in this lovely ballad, college freshmen are only here to steal and drink our beer.

Once I was at an Alestorm concert, circa 2017, when I was 19 at the Hellfest, France.
Never seen such an ambiance and energy in a crowd.
At first a man pissed in a watergun and fired it out all over. Then we drank lots and sang much, before all go down in the mud, mimicking the endless rowing of our pirate ancestors.
I don't quite recall how it did end up as boose and mead troubled my memory.
Trully, a shaping experience. I will never forget. Thanks lads.
