I have dried lavender stems in a vase in my bathroom. Makes me smile because I grew the lavender.

I’m getting rid of throw pillows. I keep one on each couch for resting and I only put a couple on our bed when we have company. I’m really over un peeling and taking everything off the bed every night.
The older I get the more intentional I get about what and how much is sitting on the surfaces. The easier to dust the better.
I got it all- stems , wine racks, bar with decanters, balls of all kinds in a bowl. And a vintage ashtray. It’s all the things I love . I like stuff. Oh and I have cut down on pillows , just three on bed , so that’s good . Also, no fake flowers in bath . I’m keeping my Balls

OMG, 😂, I actually have a set of 3 different wooden balls that I used to put in a vase. I don’t use it anymore, prob because I thought it was ugly.
Nothing worse than a jar filled with dried moss balls! We set up a home tour with our fresh arrangements. I accidentally knocked into the homeowners display of those. The moss flew onto the console and onto the floor!! She stood over me while I tried to wipe all the debris up.
I now associate mean rich ladies with moss spheres 😁
I don’t understand the decor balls either. Weird.
that reminds me of dusty ass potpourri that was everywhere in the 90s 😂
One item of decor I will never understand is the string of wood beads with tassel on the end draped on a coffee table! Why?

The ashtrays that don't look like ashtrays are perfect for chocolates/ pralinés. Especially cute in a guest room. Just 3-5 cute chocolates, maybe a cloche over them.
I think bathrooms are the dustiest rooms in the house, so to me, that’s the last place for plants/florals should be.
Totally agree! And after all that towel drying and hair blow drying, the room becomes the next dust bowl. I want those countertops with the least amount of stuff as possible.
I def agree about the bar being a tucked away cabinet.

I thought accent balls were a LONG time ago, and wooden beads followed them.
Garrett, the problem with the balls is we all own beautiful bowls and can’t figure out what to put in them ! :)

I sometimes put lemons or other fruit in mine. I don't have balls.
I don't personally have dried branches but after seeing your photo of the black furnishings, white wall, with the delicate tracery of black branches, I have to disagree. Those branches are the perfect foil to the stark heaviness of the setting.
Dried plants, like branches and tingtings, frequently screw up your feng shui.😁 There's rarely a part of your life you want sort of dead vibes.
I am using vintage Czech glass ashtrays as a catch for keys etc. Highly recommend :D
Another fun video! Love your critique of pillow overload, artificial floral arrangements in the bathroom (yuck), alcohol on display, decorative ashtrays. We part ways when it comes to decorative balls. Spheres/round objects have been displayed in bowls and on trays for centuries -- faberge eggs (okay, not quite round, haha, but certainly not useful!), baccarat crystal spheres, marble spheres. They're no longer on trend, but I've always been drawn to expensive, round, objects.

Garrett…I have an excellent use for those little wedge wood ash trays. Keep them under your small oil bottles and your pepper grinders that are in your cabinet. It will catch any escaping pepper or oil, thereby keeping your interior cabinet clean. Every once in awhile I take those little dishes out and wash them, then return them under my grinder or oil bottle. It looks nice and neat, serves a function, and allows you to collect more if you enjoy those tiny “ashtrays.” 😊
Don’t scream but my parents that are older still have fake ivy about their cabinets! I can’t! 😂

Cool empty alcohol bottles can be repurposed. I have a few that I put oil in and keep on the kitchen counter for cooking. Other than that, I agree 100%.

Those little dish trays are great for placing your earrings or necklaces where you quickly place in at the end of the day. Later you can go back and put them back in your jewelry box.
As someone who has family members with chronic pain, having a ton of pillows and blankets allows them to get as comfortable as they can.. and the pain location changes, depending on the day. So many different types of pillow are needed. I'd say have the pillows, but, maybe, put some in closed storage if you don't need it at that time.
there is room for need. question is ..does the usability of this item overtake the extra effort to move it out of the way when not used. By all means.. if it is useful... its all about making your home balance clutter/ease of use/decor...to your taste.

At last! Someone speaking out about alcohol on display. I watch several H&G channels on UA-cam (but you are my favorite) and even in the smallest interiors, there is a bar cart taking up valuable space. I do not need my house to scream "open bar" to anyone who stops by. Thank you for being the voice of reason

I used to collect vintage ash trays, large weird shapes. They were sometimes useful for keys and such. Now I am much more minimalist they are gone. At least I didn't put moss balls in them.
We have fresh flowers in our home. Sourced from a certain Big Box retailer each week. Roses usually. They look great. We put them in different vases.

I have an old alcohol bottle, it's green glass and might have been a wine bottle, that is over 50 years old. I use it as a change jar. When it gets full, I take it to the bank and cash it in. It was something that my dad had and he also use it as a chain star. It has sentimental value.
Garrett, the pretty retro ash tray dishes work great under small plants. If it matches the vibe in your decor... why not repurpose, right?

Oh my word you read my mind about all those pillows! I watch all the decor shows and there's always too many pillows but I've never seen anybody actually say it. Bravo!
*Bar carts, Branches and Balls....Oh My* . I despise bar carts especially glass ones, they are a nightmare to clean. I love using branches in my arrangements. I have several faux willow branches than can be manipulated into fun shapes, I love the the organic whimsy they add. I don't hate the balls, I like them in a decorative bowl or rustic dough bowl. Keeping my moss and twig balls for color and texture. 😜
Plants (live 😂) love my bathroom. The humidity and light is perfect.
This is such great advice, Garrett - taking a look around now and then, and asking yourself, "Why is this here? Do I use it? Am I sick of cleaning it or looking at it?!" And not every surface and empty spot needs _something_ let alone layers of stuff ✨

This video made me realize I still had what once were two live eucalyptus branches I got for the holidays but still had sitting around but is now dried out. This was a great reminder to toss them...which I did.
I like to use those little personal ashtray's and vintage butter pats as a spoon rest for my coffee spoons in my coffee station.
I have that same glass tray with the Greek design and metal stand. As a midcentury modern collector, I love it!
I've never been into trends. I style my home with what I like and what looks appealing to me.

Garrett, my mother used her wedgewood ashtrays all the time. Seems horrifying now, but 🤷🏼♀️
Also, if you want to display liquor, fine crystal decanters are fine with me. I find empty bottles pretentious.
The issue with some crystal decanters is they are lead crystal and actually toxic to store alcohol for long periods of time. When I learned that, I sold the ones I owned. Now we just display liquor in their own bottles, the home bar is its own feature. But we don’t keep empties, because, why..?

It's consistent in each vase so the repeating visual element works, but then since my husband is allergic to flowers, no vase in my home ever gets flowers or branches arranged in them - real or fake.

I overloaded my sofas with pillows. My nephews would come over and after a short time 1/2 of them would be on the floor. It was OBNOXIOUS. They weren't trying to throw them it's just they were all in the way, and because my sofas are leather the pillows were constantly sliding off. Now I have just a few. And they get used and are not in the way.

I have a bowl with balls in it on my dining table.🤣🤣🤣just the other day, I was thinking it's time to put something else in it or get rid of it...I do agree about the pillows. too many takes the beauty away of each pillow. Especially if you have designer pillows
But your ashtrays are little pieces of art and there is history behind them. They encapsulate a different time of life and culture. Had to chuckle when you were talking about bar carts. I'm not a fan of them but I do have an antique wrought iron telephone stand that I use as a liquor cabinet. It's unique and everything is hidden away. I agree on throw pillows, I have very few (like 4) and don't need any more.

I live right in the middle of wine country. I could care less about wine or really most alcohols just don't do it for me. I might have two or three drinks a year. So I am not going to waste my money on a wine cellar or big wine display. But I have seen some really fancy ones. Lots of money tied up in those bottles. They better hope we don't have an earthquake.

I agree with many things you covered in this video. I don't know about you but I worry about what insects are in & on the tree branches & live greenery that people bring into their homes. On the ash trays I have a couple that hold my watercolor brushes when I am painting. I like the look of the var carts with pretty glassware but we don't drink so no cart for us. I do like properly curated branches. We had a corkscrew willow tree on the side of our house. It was a poor placement, as it didn't shed its leaves until December on top of ice many years also the roots were getting into our septic pipes. But, the branches were beautiful.
When we had the tree removed (it was clogging our gutters and making our deck and stoop a fall hazard) I collected the best looking branches from the tree and use them in the winter in our McCoy vases. The branches curl beautifully and look nice. I wouldn't use just any old branch, but these are lovely and reminds me of the tree. 🍃 My husband took some thicker branches and made walking sticks.

I love floral arrangements in the house, minimal and I have them in all the rooms, including my vanities. Just a rose, or any flower, usually my garden gives me enough flowers and the days it doesn’t I pick up a bunch when I go grocery shopping and segregate different stems in different little vases. I am not a fan of huge giant floral arrangements:)
Throw pillows I totally agree. I have incorporated couple of decorative boxes and thanks to your earlier episodes, that inspired me to get that for my side table for holding remotes.
Me too don’t drink so can’t speak much about bars. However whenever I visit some people and see open display of bars I don’t feel that comfortableI think. I think it’s personal and private, because drinking is a habit and why would you put it on display. I might be wrong but I guess it’s not a living room open display thing for me and I am not fond or fan of it.

I've never understood those display bar carts...like where does the ice and fruit juice come from? I have a little stand beside my fridge with drawers which hold napkins and straws, the citrus press and glassware are on top along with a few bottles of opened wines/spirits. Sherry and white wine are in the fridge. In the kitchen just makes more sense, unless it's a real bar setup with a fridge etc
