One trick I learned with snook is to lead them vs pulling against ( of course if they heading towards structure have no choice ) leading them keeps the leader / line off their gill plate.
I also got my pb snook of 44.5" blind casting a topwater

Justin when we got them in I was so amazed at the fresh water but then we got the saltwater and I was like oh these have to be great. I'm looking forward to see how the new Berkley almost like a paddle tail are and work. Also we have them at Dicks sporting goods Tampa, FL
That was an awesome fish. And 20 pound leader is what I use almost exclusively off the beach and I seldom get broken off.

I trick I used to use when sight fishing is to close me eyes as the fish approached so I set the hook by feel not by sight. its tough to do sometimes though.

Curious what hook you’re using and if your using a peg/Neko weight in the nose to get it to swim straight?
Justin, get some KVD 2.5 Wake Baits. Change out the hardware though. If you keep the rod tip up it stays on top of the water. Rod tip down and it can get about 12" under. The Snook and redfish can't leave these things alone.
