That's pretty much the premise of Always Sunny in Philadelphia, the most detestable, manipulative people going through their lives, and mostly failing, and the audience laughing along the way. You like Dark Comedy, you will like that show.
If you want to keep quagmires pervert trait while making him more tolerable and not necessarily a bad guy, all you have to do is make him a gentlemanly man who reveres women, treats them like queens. Have him move on from just seeing them as objects and realize he can get more out of making connections. Or just give him a wife who completes this aspect of quagmire in some way, there’s multiple ways that can work out. But instead they just try to completely distance themselves which is just strange.
A good way to keep Quagmire the way he was and keep meToo friendly would of explore more episodes where his pervert nature cause trouble. For example, his pervert actions with a plane hostess could of gotten him fired from his job which could cause him to become depress and struggling to pay bills. With him realizing that he needed to learn to control himself in professional situations.
I did enjoy the older Quagmire. His jokes usually gave me a good laugh, and when on screen you never knew what he would do next. The scene where Lois is in prison and Quagmire is in the background freaking out over sexual innuendos is still one of my favorites. Now he’s just boring in recent episodes, and I don’t think I’ve laughed once in idk how long with his character
The willingness to neuter Quagmire (almost literally) shows that Family Guy isn't the edgy satire it used to be. It only exists to keep existing, and if that takes removing all the character from a main character, they'll do it happily. Compare that to South Park, whose creators would absolutely love for the show to get cancelled, which means they're not afraid of doing anything they want and staying as controversial as possible. Ironically, the only show that wants to end is the one worth keeping.
It was honestly a huge missed opportunity not to have some sort of big character change with Quagmire, usually with a character like that their predicament is that they've become too old to be the "ladies' man" or they've missed out on having a family like Boomhauer from King of the Hill. Quagmire's issue is not that but that it's socially not acceptable to be that kind of guy anymore, you can do so much with that with a number of different angles to take. That's really the problem with these animated shows that have gone on far too long, they'll put in modern takes and current events and stuff like that but not have their characters change with the times. They treat it like the flavor of the week when really it's the new status quo.

I don't get why they suddenly decided to make Quagmire hate Brian for no reason. There was never an episode where Brian did something awful to him directly or where he simply took issue with. The episode where Brian scammed him in return for getting his teeth "fixed" was made AFTER Quagmire declared his hatred for him. I know the series is barely known for its continuity, aside from stuff like Diane getting killed by Stewie at the end of And then there were Fewer, but this is something that should've had a clear explanation behind it instead of just coming out of nowhere. Don't worry, it's not your Brian favoritism, that roast Quagmire did to him along with his awful takes in Streams of Silence: The Story of Brenda Q are some of his worst moments in THE WHOLE SERIES. The former because he's guilty of nearly everything he accuses Brian of to worse degrees, and some of it isn't even that bad, like who has actually been negatively affected by Brian doing his business in the backyard or him writing a terrible book? The latter because it's an absolutely despicable episode that doesn't know if it wants to be funny or be a serious representation of domestic abuse, and fails at both as a result HARD. Whenever Quagmire tries to be the straightman(archetype, not personality) it makes me think of an altered version of the Spongebob quote which goes: "Oh, so now the pedophile rapist is gonna preach to us!"
i like to think the reason is that he is a cat person and seeing a dog trying to fucking his friends wife (A DOG!) and having a greater chance then him doing so is personally insulting to him yes he has no standards for himself in the bed, but for a DOG to go for his target? step too far.
Even though there are Quagmire moments that still make me laugh, I will admit that at this point on some level his whole pervert schtick has gotten old, stale and cliche.

Just think, they can have an episode about Stewie getting pregnant with Brian’s puppies, but they think having Quagmire act like Quagmire is a bit too spicy. Just saying. I never cared for Quagmire and whenever they try to play him as a morally upstanding caring guy I just remember all the stuff he has done up until those points and wonder if the staff know what they’re trying to get out of the character.
The worst part is that in a recent episode, Peter sets him up for a funny joke that he would normally make and he doesn’t make the joke and instead is used as boring exposition
Temu profits off of slave labor, uses scam tactics, and more. and, like every other one of these marketplaces, 95% of all items are just off-brand items that'll break a few days after first use. So...Wish 2.0 basically but with gambling techniques added into it.
One of my favorite jokes of all time on the show was from the Terminator Episode. A Terminator Peter walks into the Drunken Clam and scans all of Peter's drinking buddies. When he scans Quagmire, it says "Former Pervert; Lacks Comedic Angle."
What if they changed Glen from being a sex guy into a drug guy. Sex was always a comedic vice for Quigmore so maybe they could give him other comedic vices.
I think a good contrast is Boomhauer from King of the Hill. He's basically the same archetype, but they don't push it to the extreme. He has traits established from day one that don't make him into the worst fucking human possible, there's something there besides him being in his 50s. Quagmire's traits outside his playboy status weren't really established firmly until several seasons in. And they're mostly just nothing. The only one I think they could do good episodes about is his veteran status, but there's like one or two over that and then nothing else. No, what's important is he likes cats, hates Brian, and he's good at his day job. He's the weakest part of the show fr
Glen has a heartwarming origin like his niece with cancer he helped and i think some other stuff and his wildness got destroyed nowadays. :( he went from hilarious to not that good.
To me, Quagmire only worked in old episodes before they started constantly having him be a r@pist. Not that they never did that back then but it was more rare. It eventually became his whole personality. I wish more shows would have a perverted character who can be off putting at times but is a good person who's just socially awkward. Like Tina from Bob's Burgers & the main character in the first episode of Oshi no Ko.
A better way to solve a all the issues that would come with Quagmire's character would be to instead repurpose his character to be a failing "ladies' man" in where over time he becomes less and less successful with swooing a woman to the point where it becomes laughable, like; "lol, look at this sad old man, he thinks he can still get action". Sure, it's neither perfect nor an ingenious idea, but at least the show gets to have it's cake and eat it too.
Oh fuck no, the moment the clip of the cat cafe appear it gave me flashbacks, my teacher was accused of sexual harassment and left our school then we find out he opened a cat cafe it was literally the same situation 😭
If I'm gonna be honest, I'm waiting for the day Brain can return that speech back to Quagmire. As much as Brain has been warped into this worse version of himself, he is still no where near as bad as Quagmire. Quagmire is just self aware of how awful he is and now is trying to wash away how horrible he is/was.
Normally, flanderisation is when a layered character gradually becomes a one-note character. But Quagmire is a bit different, he was a one-note character to begin with, then he lost that one note and it was replaced with... well, to be honest nothing.
What life? He’s a failing author, he has to make sure Stewie doesn’t constantly kill himself because he’s a baby with no common sense, and every relationship he has ends in disaster because he can’t stop bragging about himself

I don't care how many cats he rescues Glen Quagmire can never be redeemed. The few good things he has done will never outweigh all the bad and illegal things he's done. I think Quagmire these days could work as a Johnny Bravo type character. Like I know their was the whole Pepe le pew controversy and he's semi-similar but like how about keep the coolness of Quagmire similar to Johnny. Like have Quagmire come over to Peters and start just giving the Family stuff. Have him be like super nice to Meg and Peters kids and maybe that's the controversy. Like Peter gets upset because his kids prefer Quagmire. He should be like the cool uncle who does shitty things but everyone just loves him because he's cool. Only difference is that he gets beat the shit out of when trying to hook up with the ladies. Like imagine an episode where Quagmire he trys to hit on a lady they just beat him up so he tries making an action movie hoping that he will be remembered for that instead. Only issue is the action movie is full of 80s stereotypes and jokes that no one likes it in the modern age. Make him like the outdated but still cool character I think works.
As much as i enjoy older Quagmire jokes i feel like he's more comedically versatile now. It is weird that they chose to make him a straightman though considering that was Cleveland before season 8
I remember on the Graham Norton show Seth Macfarlane explained how he came up with the idea on all the characters of Family Guy and then Graham was like “Now where’s Quagmire from? That can’t be a person.” And Seth couldn’t stop laughing 😂😂
In the dinner date scene where he talked about Brian’s son, I found that really hypocritical because Quagmire has a fck ton of kids so it doesn’t make sense why out of all people he had to say it
I still have the theory that Quagmire has been using Ida's ID for the longest time because there's that episode where Peter accidentally becomes trans and has to have that talk with Ida, where she mentions she 'was unhappy for 61 years' before she transitioned. I feel like Quagmire is actually in his 40’s but was using a fake ID with his Dad's DOB

Do Peter next: the Bored Genius. Talk about how important it is to recognize that he does not see any validity in others who talk smack for no reason and himself can be much more accomplished though he is too bored to try. Like the many times he achieves going to space, becoming a millionaire, etc. And talk about how this specifically involves his low opinion of others and therefore the absolute value of his boredom.
The most creepiest thing about quagmire’s character is the fact he’s 61. Or at least it was revealed in an episode where Peter looked at his driver’s license. “Carrots.” That’s the only time it’s ever brought up too.
Though I actually feel like he has been given more depth to his personality in the season 21 episode The Stewaway, he actually played as a temporary guardian for stewie while he was in Paris with him.
The funny thing is every trait Quagmire is saddled with now (being a cat-lover, getting annoyed over little things and hating Brian for moral reasons) were all there years ago, but they were meant to contrast with his actual "insane pervert" personality, the joke was always how out-of-character these moments were. But since he can't be a pervert anymore, these traits have become all he has left, meaning there's no longer any irony to them. Plus, him hating Brian had a meta element to it. Before that episode, those two had never had any real screen time or dynamic together, so the reveal that Quagmire had resented Brian all these years, and that's why they were never onscreen together, was genuinely funny. Now it's been dragged out for so long, that it's no longer a joke, it's just what Quagmire does now.
I kinda liked how they crossed it over into his cat-lover shtick and implied he just doesn't like Brian for the petty reason that he's a dog (which figures because he can stand Peter and Lois for much worse), I was never much for the on the nose 'meta' joke going on with the rivalry early on and think it got better when Brian started fighting back and they became 'those two pompous guys in the group that always bicker'. I think the problem is the pervert thing just slowly became the secondary part of his personality, like it's still implied, but rather than the self righteous element being a funny gag here and there to contradict it, it's the pervert part instead. The pious hypocrite side of his personality is the dominant force now, with the pervert part only surviving so much as to further demonstrate that he's full of it.
I never enjoyed Quagmire past the first sexual assault joke; it just flipped a switch in my mind like "oh he's not a quirky pervert, he's a fucking predator that shouldn't even be portrayed in a positive funny light".
I did notice a while ago how much Quagmire just became that angry side character that randomly says something rude or mean for no reason. Like a time when Clevand said a random joke and Quagmire snapped at him for no reason at all. It's a bizare change for him
I wish they would've done more with quagmire, in southpark we had chef who loved being with women but was also the man with morals and would teach the kids about right and wrong. Quagmire was just a sexual deviant who had very odd conflicting moments that didn't make sense.
Man I am soooooo glad they got rid of sexual assault jokes, because they were too offensive for today's climate. I'm just glad they made more room for jokes about violence, gore, drug use, self harm, racism, child molestation, etc. Because those are a ok.

Yea but that would require a commitment to changing his behavior, which family guy can’t do.

They got an email to verify if the order was real. Charlie verified with them that the order was legit. Some time after, they canceled the whole order for no reason
Whenever Quagmire tries to be the straightman(archetype, not personality) it makes me think of an altered version of the Spongebob quote which goes: "Oh, so now the pedophile rapist is gonna preach to us!"
i like to think the reason is that he is a cat person and seeing a dog trying to fucking his friends wife (A DOG!) and having a greater chance then him doing so is personally insulting to him
yes he has no standards for himself in the bed, but for a DOG to go for his target? step too far.

I also really hate the scene where Quagmire is laying into Brian. He's literally laying into him for all the things HE does, too
And he actively admits he's being hypocritical while giving himself a pat on the back for not excusing himself for it.
The worst part is that in a recent episode, Peter sets him up for a funny joke that he would normally make and he doesn’t make the joke and instead is used as boring exposition
that ad is so suspicious... nothing is that cheap without a downside...
Yeah it’s a massive scam, they literally use gambling techniques to make u think u won the reduced price
Temu profits off of slave labor, uses scam tactics, and more.

Quagmire is a straight up r@pist in seasons 2/3
@@el_rey_chipinque That's actually a good idea

If I'm gonna be honest, I'm waiting for the day Brain can return that speech back to Quagmire. As much as Brain has been warped into this worse version of himself, he is still no where near as bad as Quagmire. Quagmire is just self aware of how awful he is and now is trying to wash away how horrible he is/was.
Quagmire may be one of the fastest-flanderized characters I've ever seen. He still gets depth later, but never escapes the husk he becomes instantly.
Normally, flanderisation is when a layered character gradually becomes a one-note character. But Quagmire is a bit different, he was a one-note character to begin with, then he lost that one note and it was replaced with... well, to be honest nothing.
I think the quagmire show cutaway gag perfectly described him
"My name is Glenn Quagmire, and i say Gigity."
And thats all he is
I have a theory that quagmire hates Brian because he secretly jealous of the life Brian has.
Probably.
What life? He’s a failing author, he has to make sure Stewie doesn’t constantly kill himself because he’s a baby with no common sense, and every relationship he has ends in disaster because he can’t stop bragging about himself
@@dusksunsetio6042 Spot on, bro. Brian is infuriatingly pretentious and Quagmire's whole rant to Brian's face was well deserved. I want to see more episodes where Brian's pretentious and arrogant nature come back to bite him in the ass.

Ngl I never really liked Quagmire's speech against Brian because it's mad hypocritical. Everything he says about Brian can be applied to himself and then some. It's a great speech ruined by the fact that it's said by the at least deserving character.
NGL, what Peter said at 8:12 reminds me of what Cartman said in the cartoon wars episode. "I'm a little boy, that's a cartoon!" - Eric Cartman

The most creepiest thing about quagmire’s character is the fact he’s 61. Or at least it was revealed in an episode where Peter looked at his driver’s license. “Carrots.” That’s the only time it’s ever brought up too.

It's time for Mark's quarterly Family Guy retrospective.
Though I actually feel like he has been given more depth to his personality in the season 21 episode The Stewaway, he actually played as a temporary guardian for stewie while he was in Paris with him.
Quagmire was already flanderized from the start. They had to unflanderize him then reflanderize him in a different way.
I legit thought the temu sponsor was a joke..

Really Mark? I can't believe you'd advertise such a scam
the temu ad is wild
I know that, when he was young kid, around 10. Family Guy was his favorite show.
The pious hypocrite side of his personality is the dominant force now, with the pervert part only surviving so much as to further demonstrate that he's full of it.
you missed out on the chance to name this “a pervert in perspective”
Why didn't they just have him end up getting arrested and dropping some soap and be like oh is that how they feel gosh I'll never do that again
I'd actually say that taking away his core personality of sex and making him the straight man shows a bit of a character arc
Yeah but the change is never warranted nor earned.
Agreed. The rapist jokes got old fast.
@YurinanAcquiline ok
To be fair, Quagmire’s evolution really shows what happens to those cool uncle ladies man types.
