Britt, I have Cerebral Palsy. I was in the Special Olympics in the '80s. You're thinking of the Paralympics, which *is* for trained athletes. The Special Olympics is a *very* different thing. 🙂 I'm not a trained athlete. The Special Olympics is a chance for "regular Joe" disabled people to compete against each other and just have fun with it. It's fine for what it is, but it's not a professional sports competition at all. 🙂
@@brittreacts Yeah, it was a memorable experience! Shane is hilarious, and I *love* his very non-PC humor here! I should clarify, not *all* of us guys with disabilities are complete and utter horndogs, LOL! I'm a gentleman. I do appreciate the female form though! 🙂
@@robert_5974 Nope, not really a John Cena fan, hehe. 🙂 I was a wrestling fan back in the early '80s though and did go to a few matches in my home state of Alabama. I stopped following wrestling in my early teens and got seriously into all kinds of music and movies too. I was known in my hometown as the "long-haired heavy metal-punk rocker-weird music guy in the wheelchair," lol!
@@romtenimaybe we are all in the afterlife. Never thought about that one did ya. 😎 although, I think I'm in hell, not heaven. Bc my reception is prreeeeetty fucking terrible.
Shane Gillis was one half of the sketch comedy group called Gilly and Keeves, they were the funniest thing ever. Best skits: Trump Speed Dating, and Isis Toyota.
I relate very much on the AND1 childhood nostalgia. I remember hearing about the mixtapes and I rented one from Blockbuster and I was so confused because I had never rented anything that wasn't a standard Hollywood movie. Hot Sauce was one of the main guys and I went to a basketball camp at UOP where this really good Asian kid called himself Soy Sauce. Kids also started to throw the ball off your head in the middle of the game if you weren't looking because of AND1. Great times 🥲
My family and I were part of a team of " huggers" at several Special Olympics ...meaning we're were at the finish line to hug the participants as 5hey crossed the finish line ...and a good time was had by all as each participant felt they did their best...I always chose to hug the last in each competition, and give great words of encouragement, I would tell the what a fantastic job they did then have to break the news to them when asked if they won...I would always tell them no but you did so good, or made really great time that maybe with some practice that maybe next time they could win ((that is the place I learned to tell white lies...otherwise this is my idea of beating around the bush when asked a direct question ( unless it is personal) I would start by saying " umm" then shoot straight from the hip.
the special olympics, especially on the local scale are about giving people with varying levels of disability a chance to compete, and it is all about the participation, so yes, there are athletes that really don't have the mental capacity to grasp what to do, but they are involved and throwing a ball into the bleachers does happen.
I dated a guy who helped with special needs adults, and they are VERY open and loving. They used to get caught fooling around in the church van ALL the time. LOL
Shane's whole special 'Live in Texas' is hilarious. It's probably the first comedy special i have watched multiple times since Chris Rock's 'Bring The Pain'.
The funniest thing about this video is knowing the whole time she is thinking about the paralympics, and not the special olympics. She's like, "WTF, John Cena, Hooters, tits, what the hell does any of that have to do with top notch athletes who just happen to be missing some limbs?"
Shane was supposed to join SNL, but at the last the show changed their mind. Watch Josh Blue, he says the same thing about the players. They make the most fun of each other, and ham it up for the crowds. Josh competed in soccer as a Paralympian, and is a comedian.
The Cena bit is about how John Cena does a lot for make a wish. So saying he’s like the angel of death for those guys might be one of the funniest jokes ever written
Unfortunately I do not think it will ever happen but I would absolutely love to see Britt react to the original version of The Inbetweeners. To this day its probably one of the funniest shows ive ever seen. I've watched a few American channels react to this gem and its a beautiful thing to witness.
I seen that show. I'm not even a prude but they said vile shit like it was going out of style. Especially the little horn dog of the bunch who was always saying "gash" like every 5 words. 🤣 it's been years since I've seen it I'm gonna have to go back and watch it tho. It basically reminded me of mclovin being British and having his own spin off show
He ain't lying about the Special Olympics. It is hilarious at times and there is no shame in laughing because it is a natural reaction. You just have to let go and have a good time (and cry a little sometimes). My big sister is wheelchair bound with Cerebral Palsy and has participated in many Special Olympics. I've been a volunteer for over 20 years. I would give my life for any one of the athletes that participate. They are out there having the time of their lives while the crowd cheers for them. It is a beautiful, heart warming, and often very funny event.
As a volleyball coach, I can say I don't know why they wear spandex. Some girls don't like the spandex and some teams do wear basketball shorts. All I ask of the parents is that the girls have this year's shorts and a short with at least a 1 inch inseam. Last year's shorts are probably too tight. We just don't want to see buns hanging out. Usually parents are relieved/happy/elated when we tell them this.
I hate to inform you, but shane DID coach for the special olympics multiple times, and he's not lying. Also it's rude to be like "I'm sorry no, actually the special olympics are all highly trained athletes and proffessionals". Ma'am, they're teenagers with mental disabilities.. There is nothing wrong with that or if they throw a basketball randomly, because the special olympics is about having fun. That's what Shane says here lmao. You are so far removed from real life you are trolling yourself.
So, another fun fact. You are so good-looking. It doesn't matter about what you said about body parts. You do have the best smile and personality. So, yep. That place would hire you off the jump.
Nah he is doing it so its a defense from people trying to come at him. It's like, "yeah, I said that about them but I also said it about me too. They're my people. soooo, im not being a snob or talking about anything I'm not a part of so 😝 take that."
The joke about John Cena is layered - but first it seems people with downs syndrome love him basically accross the board they tend to love wrestling, the other thing is John Cena does a ton of vonlunteer work with make a wish - I think he has personally granted the most amount by a long shot - so the joke is that they'd have to become much worse aka terminally ill to have their make a wish granted - hence the joke about him leaving with souls etc
John Cena has been #1 at the Grant a Wish Foundation for years, that's why "he's like the Angel of Death for these guys"
oh thanks for the info!
I’ve volunteered at special Olympics tryouts in my city… and honestly it is EXACTLY how he describes it.
Same
same. I think she might be thinking of wheelchair basketball, which is SUPER competitive and the people are insane athletes.
I volunteer at the special Olympics in Az and he’s pretty spot on.

the short volleyball shorts existed so my dad could watch hours of women's volleyball without even realizing he did it

Ok. I have to ask. What is it like working at Hooters? I can't imagine that as a dude, it's such a bizarre dynamic to me, as a package buisiness idea.
