Javy Baez needs to watch this. Baez 8 years 953 K's. Tony Gwynn 20 years 434 K's. Put the ball in play. Ground ball outs advance runners. Strike outs advance yourself back to the dugout.
😂I just watched the "I Hate Don't Let the Ball Get Deep" video before this one ... and here it's "Allow the ball to travel". Kidding aside, thanks so much Matt, I'd say at least half of my practices are based off your content. Really doing a great job with these
Watching your Road to 400 Series 3 hitting drills vid and at the same time Chris Taylor hits a dinger in the 7th. It’s a mirror image of what you were just explaining. Cool coincidence!
Can you cover check swings? It seems to me watching MLB players that there is an art to it where they often get the benefit of fouling off a rough pitch without actually going around, so if they miss, it might still be a ball. Or am I imagining this
You don’t see players do this on purpose very often, but many times players will just do anything to put the ball in play. This will be a very short swing, almost just a flick of the rust. Great question!!!
Well when I was playing I wanted to make sure that my bat reached both sides of the plate so that I coukd reach both sides of the plate. But also stay balanced while at the plate and making sure that my timing is right and I'm keeping my weight on my back leg. But with two strikes my coaches always told me to swing at anything close but I pitched in highschool and during my youth years. I was fortunate enough to play for coaches that played pro or college and so my baseball knowledge is rich. But as a pitcher or some pitchers will guess with the hitter and would take advantage of those who has an aggressive swing. So if pitchers are ahead 0-2 well the hitters are at their advantage because most of the time they are going to try and make you chase because they don't have to throw a strike then that's when they get you to back up off the plate. So they can throw their off speed away from you but there are pitchers who are ahead 0-2 and makes too good of a pitch and leaves it hanging. But some pitchers know how to get hitters out especially if you are too aggressive
call me crazy, but I think you should swing at the next pitch when its 3-0. I say this because the pitcher doesn't want to walk anyone usually so they are ganna throw you 90% of the time a fastball right down the middle which is the money pitch you want. Get a good hitter out there that gets to 3-0 a lot and watch if he swings at the next pitch I bet his OBP goes up 20-30%. I understand why they don't swing usually ,but it's just ganna be a wasted opportunity and I don't think a walk is more important than the possible outcome.
Hey thanks Matt, that is cool. As Votto will tell you, Ted also advocated choking up as of course does Bonds. I put Barry and Ted and Babe in a separate class, even from Gehrig and Trout and Hornsby, and not one of the top three held the bat at the knob in the conventional way. You cannot create separation doing things the normal way, but it is important to master the conventional way in order that you can speak with command presence as to the value of each approach. Your channel is a great pleasure in my life and for that I thank you. You personally undo all the bad things everyone says about Massh achusetts people, so good on ya br.

Matt. This is a great video.
What age do you start adding this stuff for players? Is this something you introduce in a progression, or all at once?
At least 11 years old
I would say around 11-12
Good content, thank you!
I appreciate it! Thanks for watching!
Can you do a Tyler O’Neil swing break down

2:06 have you seen how far off the plate they have been calling them in MLB playoffs? Its crazy!

Ted said hit it back up the middle.
“Under my hands/not in the dirt/I can reach it.”
Catch the ball on the bat as with a glove.

You didnt mention learning how to foul pitches off
I think fouling off pitches is a result of this type of approach. It gives you a better chance of fighting off tough pitches
