- All that camping gear is useless if you can't get it to the campsite.
In this video, I try to get all that camping gear into the car.

After several years of packing the tent in the car first - and then having to unpack most of the boot (in the rain....because 9 times out of 10 it does!!) to get the tent out, I now pack things into 24l boxes with lids (bought from Asda originally) - put them in the boot (alongside the Kampa Khazi) and then put the tent on top. We found it made our pitching time much quiker as things came out of the car in bulk, no more running backwards and forwards! It has also meant we can have the car packed at the end of the camp without having to find somewhere to store everything so we can empty and strike the tent! .....And if the worst happens and you have to strike a wet tent, everything is protected and you can just ram the tent in ontop until you get home!
We have a Vango Icarus 500 and I camped as a single adult with 3 children, so we had a fair amount of kit!
When I first started doing this I had an old picasso, I now have a renault grand scenic with lots of boot space so it's not as tight to pack!
Yes, that’s what we’ve done for years. Boxes packed with camping gear also make it really quick for a last minute camping trip. We also had an old Picasso 😀
If you can put the tent on the roof do this, makes things way easier when you get there. Throw a tarp over it and get some ratchet straps. I also got a roof bag.
Thank you so much for your videos. Lovely to see a friendly face calmly going through everything needed with experience. Feeling a lot more confident now.
Thank you for making this video, great reference point. I’m definitely going to need that roof box!
Great set of videos...just what I was looking for. Really appreciate you loaded the car, as I am planning first camping trip for family of 5👍
Glad it was helpful!
I would love a video on how you pack your roof box 😃
The part of all camping trips I dislike is packing it all back in the car, goes well on departure but never seems to go so smoothly for the return. I'm working hard to make everything as compact as possible without sacrificing comfort.
Yep.
Nice video, I vaccume pack some stuff like clothes, blankets and pillows to help save space, I also lift the boot floor up where the spare tire is normally kept which gives you abit more extra room :) we only have a golf 8 so boot isn't that big, we never take food with us to help save space and just go to a supermarket near where we're camping when we have pitched the tent :) hopefully when lockdown is over we're going to go again although we just upgraded from a kamper keilder 5 air + vestibule to a outdoor revolution 7.0pc so its going to be fun again 😅
Great tips. Thanks.
Id recommend the tent go in last its easier if its the first thing you can get to when opening the boot. Also i find if you pack from inside the back door into the boot with the boot closed you can squash things in better. Also roof bags are brilliant you can fit loads of stuff in them. All bedding and clothing.
These videos are great advice for beginner like me thanks
Glad to help
You need to get a collapsible wagon to transfer to the camp site.
Very nice!, I’d recommend getting a tote for all the small things to save on space
I have a merc cls coupe and have to have two roof boxes 😂. I can only fit the tent and camping chairs in the boot. Luckily the roof boxes open opposite ways so no need to take one box off to get to the other.
Thanks for this series. Just about to embark on our first family camping trip. Our tent fills the boot (Skoda Yeti) so it’s car + roof box + trailer. Maybe won’t need the roof box depending on how big a trailer we get, which also then allows for bikes on the roof. One other thing I didn’t see you pack - gas canisters. I assume best to go in the trailer if you have one? Thanks.
Ideally, yes, as long as it's secure of course ;-)
Handy, thanks 😁
No problem 👍
would you recommend a cargo guard to prevent all the contents of the boot flying into the cabin if god forbid a crash happened
Yes, especially if there’s a gap into the cabin. Never put heavy items on top. We place sleeping bags and pillows on the top so only soft things can fall into the cabin.
Well done 👍 and thank you 😊
Great videos thanks you
add a dog guard, if you have accident loose stuff can make it worse.
Good tip.
Were they single self inflating mats? As my double outdoor revolution 10cm is double that pack size
Yes, single ones!
So when you hit the brakes everything flies through the front window
was debating camping, but the reality of equipment i would need for a family has put me off a bit :P is it even much cheaper than a hotel or static caravan ?
Can I ask where you got your caddy from please? Thanks
What kind of car do you have? We have Nissan qashqai and it's always a struggle 🤣
An old Santa Fe.
Wouldn't even fit my tent in there 🥲🥲
Did you just emptied your house!?
What are you cooking with?
Do you have a link or where to find the kitchen stuff caddy?
Yep: here you go www.getoutwiththekids.co.uk/reviews/outwell-kitchen-store/
