Strictly will never be the same again without someone like these two. That was mesmerizing, sexy, seamless, cool, macho and beautifully executed. The intensity was palatable. It's so obvious they 'get' each other and were dancing as one. Jay and Aliona - you HAVE to win this!
Just watched this again because I love When Doves Cry and I remembered this dance after Ranvir & Giovanni tonight. Gosh Jay was incredible wasn't he? After these years you tend to forget but this was POETRY. Not seen a Tango this good on Strictly in ages!
well said Jan butcher, the judges did everything to bring Jay down. Craig with his facial expressions, and Len with you missed 2 heel leads, while letting Kelly get away with stomping about, with no finesse at all. it was blatant after his jive. I was so disgusted in the final I voted 123 times and got through around 50. I wasn't watching the winner, I thought he'd got no chance after being ripped to shreds over the show dance, which had nothing to do with him. when I realised he'd won I was over the moon. well done Jay the best dancer ever. 💛 x
This is one of the best standard Tango's I've ever seen on Strictly. They were perfectly in sync and Aliona sure is one hell of a choreographer when she isn't stuck with the oldest man of the season. And Jay looked so handsome this week. And his butt was pretty good looking too :O
Jay's tango was far far superior to Kellie's, which unbelievably got 40?!

Probably the best male celeb ever and without doubt the music was so much better in earlier series. It was particularly poor this last season, 2017.
I thought that was incredible! and he looked so gorgeous!! that intense look he gave Aliona at the start got me too!
WOW! I absolutely loved this dance - maybe even more than the jive. Jay must be one of the best celebrities ever to take part in SCD. His partnership with Aliona is perfect. I just want to watch this over and over again. Watching in slo mo shows just how in sync they are.
This young man is my 2015 Winner! This is a fantastic example of how he creates a little bit of magic on the dancefloor!

+Scd123 I agree -- it was ah-maz-ing!! Aliona had said a couple of days ago that there might be fire & ice, etc in the production. When you can perform like THAT -- no gimmicks are needed whatsoever. Should have topped the leaderboard -- but as per usual, is often undermarked.
+ Scd Observer Hi I agree I thought he danced brilliantly last night but I think he would have got better marks with a different song choice. I wasn't to sure of the song for Georgia either. I don't agree with what a lot of other viewers are saying about Helen not deserving being top of the leader board last night. her dancing was spot on she was perfect in hold I thought she made you feel that emotion when you've been away from the person you love and want to be close to them when they were cheek by cheek it was beautiful, she was elegant and glided around the dance floor and her footwork was spot on I think she 100% deserved 3 tens and a nine best dance this season. I think that everyone deserves there own opinions BUT last night the judges all agreed how good she was. Scd Observer what did you think ?
I agree! As we discussed a week back, his jive was ridiculously undermarked, and now this? I hope in the next couple of weeks he finally gets the scores he deserves, as well as Katie, Anita, Kellie, Helen and Georgia. Wait...
Scd123 They're sure doing a lot of damage control to the media, etc. (BBC & SCD are -- not Jay & Aliona!) -- over the issues we discussed, etc. The public is demanding fairness and transparency -- and they need to bring it.
This routine of Jay's was outstanding. The intensity of it was insane -- so well choreographed by lovely Aliona -- who, by the way, was not asked to return to SCD this season -- and at the last minute, when another female pro injured her ankle or foot -- Aliona was offered the spot. (That came from the BBC during one of their "damage control" items!) I really hope her obvious success with Jay secures HER a spot on SCD, as well.
Scd123 As for the marking -- the scores are still all over the place -- though a certain few are consistently under or over marked. That aspect does not seem to change, does it??

He's my winner this year. The Jive alone sealed that deal and he's just continued to excel.
Goosebumps all over my body watching this again and again and again I've watched their routines so many times but I never ever get bored they just make my day so much better.. non of the couples this year do anything for me hence I have 0 interest and probably never will have any interest these two are just pure magic and I think the judges are trying to fool themselves by giving inflated scores to routines that DO NOT deserve any.. I think secretly they are missing this gorgeous pairing hence why Mr Len brought up Jay loool did anyone also notice the results show when Lensglens segment Bruno kept screaming sensational and actually no body in the audience seemed to cheer spontaneously when it was Jays jive everyone went bonkers as well as the judges, Bruno literally had to start clapping in order to get any reaction from the audience that says something

People say that Kimberley Walsh's tango to the same song (with Pasha) was better than this. I love Pasha but those people are clearly blind. This was so mesmerizing.

I agree with lauren hall and jan butcher. The way the judges treated this lovely charismatic young man whose dancing with Aliona was the best I've seen on Strictly, was shocking. The judges have lost any credibility with me and have put me off Strictly for good.
By far the best dance of the night for me. Much better than Helen and especially georgia may fool. Jay should have been top of the leaderboard!!!

this was definately worth a full 40... the judges are too tough on Jay.. if any of the other celebrities danced like Jay they would get a full 40 without a doubt.
I agree, and I really wish the BBC would post the videos with the comments because we do forget over time what was said and what scores were given. They are removing other peoples' videos that do have them but sometimes people want to re-watch the whole thing, and sometimes we just want to watch the dance itself.
Jay always provides that little bit of Saturday Night Fever, and my goodness it's so hot in here.
From my (totally amateur) point of view, this was the most entertaining performance of the night. I love it when Jay and Aliona do the "stern face" dances (tango, Argentine tango, paso doble), they were absolutely formidable here. Plus, this song was just class.

I just took a trip along memory lane of The Wanted and ended up here somehow. But wow I never knew Jay could dance, he’s good.
the final was ruined by the judges.why couldnt they have just made pleasant comments about all the finalists and left it up to the public.what a shame.

Fantastic dance and brilliant charismatic partnership. The judges lost credibility during the weeks after the 'jive'. By trying to handicap Jay and Aliona they soured what was nearly a stunning series. Feel I have lost heart with 'Strictly' for ever.
I don't think he's delivered a bad performance yet. His timing and understanding of the music are brilliant and he seems to just get the mood of each dance. I will be very sad if he doesn't win.
Always a joy to watch Jay even when he doesn't do a particularly good dance. But this dance IS good. In fact it's more than good. I would prefer it not to be this track (I am a traditionalist when it comes to Tango and Paso music), but he's taut, beautiful lines (again, his strength, so why not flaunt it?), and his slightly bent knee, non-existent rise-and-fall floorwork is great. He acted this dance in his face too (maybe being intense or cool suits him better than those smiley, happy expressions). A solid nine. Darcy would give a ten for sure.
He is so good in these dances. Yes, Darcy and Bruno loved it! The scores were 9 10 9 10. I think Len even called it "a mango of a tango".

I like classic tunes when is down to Paso and Tango however I see all pros and choreographers they re doing it on purpose to using tracks of different music. Beautiful dance. Aliona is not getting much credit. She does much better job than Jannete for example. J does same and the same including tables chairs etc.
mirmidonas34 I agree! I think Aliona's choreography MADE this song work for the Tango. There was so much content & intensity to the content, that within seconds, I sort of forgot it wasn't a classic or traditional tune for a Latin dance. Her choreo has been amazing -- and to think she wasn't originally supposed to be on SCD this year.....shocking! She is very creative and versatile with each routine!

there was nowhere to reply to your second comment so I'm replying here.....in the midst of his time on strictly around the Argentine Tango & Foxtrot his beloved granddad died, but instead of going on about it to gain sympathy (like some did when they had a cold, by mentioning it at every opportunity) he soldiered on to make his granddad proud. and he certainly did!
Another fantastic dance - this one definitely rivals the jive imo. So excited for his future

i love Jay so much, it's the only reason i watch SCD tbh... i used to be a big fan of The Wanted. i don't know if Jay ever mentioned this before, but he used to go to a dance school. there is a playlist of him performing somewhere on youtube, i believe it's called 'Jay before TW'
For me this was right up there with his Jive.Electrifying dance.Glad I reminded myself of it.

I must admit I am extremely impressed with Jay this season. He looked so far out of his comfort zone in his week one Cha-Cha now look at him now he has so much more confidence and he is so dapper and poised it's incredible. To be quite honest I love the use of this track for Tango. Even when it was Rachel Steven's Argentine Tango way back when. Jay seemed to really get into it. In the beginning at around :38 he dropped his character slightly and :48 looked slightly awkward to me but I'm just picky. The rest I must say was amazing. I am torn between a 9 or 10. Two things I found off the rest was amazing, so I suppose a 9.5.

This tango is just so good, I can't choose between this and the Argentine Tango, both first class, top of the tree! Everything is just so fluid and effortless, Jay is one amazing dancer, I can't get enough of him, well done Aliona you have brought out the very best in this lovely young man.

if I remember right, one judge said, I think it was Len, I don't know why you put that last kick in. if it had been any Of The others it would have been, I did like that last kick, well done. I think that says it all.....

Len said he missed a couple of heel leads, which Karen Hardy had to re-watch a few times before she spotted one (it was that minute!) some this year missed a few but they were overlooked.
It was Craig who said "I didn't like that little hitch-kick you did at the end, but that's personal taste" yet he still docked a point!

After the disappointing evening of this weekend (the elimination of Aston) I came back to watch for the fiftieth time this wonderfull tango !
That was a shocker Aston going such a shame, he was a brilliant dancer.
To think I loved their training footage even better because of the intimacy. I so much love to see them dance in training, being into the music, no "strictlyfication" and dance "like nobody is watching ". It's magical !!
But on the night it was .. ..A...MA...ZING !!!!!! ...Be proud of the end result Jay !

Wow! This is fantastic. Well done Jay and Aliona. Jay is in a class of his own no matter what the scores say! Aliona is a brilliant dancer and choreographer - oh and gorgeous as well, how amazing did she look in Blackpool doing the salsa? Gets a 10 from me! So is anything else going on - are they tango-ing somewhere else? Well not sure if anyone else noticed but when being interviewed by Claudia after getting through to the quarter finals, they were sitting on the sofas with two other couples. The other couples were sitting with hands on laps or on the sofa, however, Jay had his arm around Aliona and she had both of her hands in his hand! Make of that what you will!
I'm pretty sure I saw Aliona's husband in the audience on Saturday night!

Brilliant to watch! This year's contest is incredibly close but I still think that Jay and Aliona can win although it will probably go right down to the wire.
I agree, Jennifer, there are some good contenders this year on Strictly, but nobody comes anywhere near Jay and Aliona. They were actually in a different competition from all the others, and this is why the judges found them hard to deal with. When you are expecting to pick out a few treats from a bag of pick and mix, finding you;ve actually got a gourmet feast in there, well you can't compute that. Hence the judges' fixation on Kellie and Kevin, who were good, but within the typical standard of the show. They just didn't get Jay and Aliona at all. Luckily the viewers did, though! Sort of prefigured Brexit, I suppose!
