Dr Sugarbaker was my surgeon performing cytoreduction and HIPEC for Appendix Cancer. I’m over 8 years out from surgery and thriving with no evidence of disease. Local docs gave me no hope and 3 months to live which caused my spouse to seek out a specialist out of the area. Best decision of my life to travel to Washington DC for surgery. Thank you Dr Sugarbaker.

I actually woke up at 1:00 in the morning on Thursday and typed this to myself “experts in HIPEC does not equate to expert in treatment”. I’m glad to hear him take this position…

Question - and I’m expecting the same answers I seem to get when I ask questions about MOAS surgery ( how long is a ball of string / or it depends) , but thought I would ask anyway . How long did it take for you to feel you moved freely and normally again? How long until you could start to use abs before the ‘ pre movement worry, or constant watching out for how you are about to move ? I’m 7 weeks post surgery, and just trying to feel out what is to much to do or should I now try a bit more with muscles and rehab of my body .

3 months before I felt “good” again At 7 weeks I was walking quiet a bit, doing physio exercises squats, calf raises, step up etc to increase muscle, using very light weights for upper body work. Ultimately it’s what you feel you can do, only you will know when your ready to try something new. Listen to your body and maybe seek an physio opinion if unsure

Tamika Melody yes I’m able to walk some small distance, but have not tried much else . Think I might try and brave the pool this week with the wee old dears at the ‘seniors’ aqua class that I’m allowed to join ha ha. Might try and do some of the activities you suggest. Thanks for posting

Hi Gemma- I am 12 weeks post my third major CRS/ HIPEC. I have managed to get back to full mobility after my first two surgeries, so I hope this one is the same! I walk my dogs every day for half hour to an hour. I have also been doing daily yoga and riding my exercise bike ( I own a Peloton and am obsessed 😁) I saw my exercise physiologist last week and he has recommended some daily exercises, which are aimed to increase movement through my back and core. A few of them also target pelvic floor muscles. I am still on 6 weeks of chemo, but otherwise feeling well. All the best !

Gemma Daniels-Hay thank you! I am hoping that the third time has knocked it on its head! I have been dealing with this since 2014 ( surgeries 2014, 2017,2022). I had a PCI of 39/39 when first diagnosed, so very big surgeries. In that time, I have travelled to many countries, built a house, ridden my horses and worked a very fast paced and complex job ( although my 2023 goal is to reduce my work stress and make it less of a priority). There is definitely a good life to be lived on the other side ❤

Hi Gemma. I'm coming up to 5 months post MOAS. At 8 weeks post op I felt I was ready for more than walking so went back to my physio to work on core strength and muscle rebuilding (I lost a lot of condition in hospital). I go 2 x per week and we are nearly back to were I was pre op in terms of what i can manage exercise wise (mostly on the pilates reformer), though I'm still really cautious with ab heavy work. I'm still adjusting to my new body, I don't think it will ever feel the same, but that's OK too, I feel a bit different as a person to "before"! I also do Yoga at home and choose my practice based on what I feel my body needs that day, lots of stretching to get mobility back through big scar and hips at the moment! Take baby steps and be kind to yourself and your body and you'll be ok. Enjoy your swim!

I did lots of walking - that helps heaps.
Then I moved on to Deep Aqua and Strength & Stability with those who required balance at the gym.
Was fully working again after 3 months post HIPEC
But everyone is different and requires different ways to move forward.
Best of luck with it all

For me it was 3 to 6 months. I did yoga and Pilates. Walk every day and build up your distance slowly. Pilates is great for core strength. Just take it slowly and listen to your body.

For this one just listen to your body. If you start to do an exercise and it hurts then Stop , don’t push through the pain like pre surg . I thought I was a bit tender then realised when my ostomy ( Sir Daffy) was being reversed there was a stomal hernia there. So, take it easy . For the first couple of months just walk and walk more, let your body really heal. Went swimming 3 months post and OMG so tight all the chest muscles.
It did feel great to be back in the water. May want to look into scar massage once healed. Best of luck to you ❤‍🩹

Today is 6/10/2021, my husband has peritoneal mesothelioma. His first surgery was on 10/2018, at Brigham & Women's with Dr. Marcelo Dasilva. Cytoreduction surgery and HIPEC. Very successful. Now 2 1/2 yrs later, his latest CT scan showed nodules suspicious for recurrent cancer. Dasilva is no longer at BWH. Is there anyone at BWH that knows your technique? I search for peritoneal mesothelioma and get nothing.

It would seem that my pseudo is starting to take its toll. Its all come back and I'm in hospital with breathing issues. Prognosis is now only palliative care now for me so don't know how long is left. Surgery doesn't look likely from oncology as they say they did everything they could the first time. Tough to hear and tough to fight something within. Just hoping it's still slow growing but can't help thinking I've had my last Christmas.

I had just finished posting to my family about how my husband is now an open candidate for Hipec. You have to keep believing in the creator which dwells in you. Remind the creator of the promises he made towards man life. If we humble our selves and pray he will heal us.
You also have to not believe the prognosis.
You also have to keep on going.
Things you can do while you await. Take sour soup tea leaves. Boil about 20 leaves in a good quart pan for 20 mins. And do this three times a day.
See your tumors shrinking because your good cells are helping.
May all be well. Look also at power of the subconscious mind.
Look at Joe dispenza you are the placebo.
A story in there was of a man that just wanted to live till Xmas. And he died a week later after Xmas. The report showed he had the smallest amount of cancer that would not cause his death.
Another story is how a man desired to commit suicide the. Changed his mind. He thought he was going to die. Vitals were dropping blood pressure 46/20 . They found out it was a sugar pill. His vitals immediately went back to normal.
Look at the” game of life. Book “
You are what you think about
All of these are on UA-cam. And check out “healed “ a movie free on UA-cam. I believe it had a human body. As the cover.
You can do this!!! Meditate on the creators word day and night. Feel it. Live it. Be it. Do it. Believe in the creator in you. Also I had found out a lot of dis- ease is because of what we eat and what we think about.
And if you already had hipec. You gotta believe. And calm your energy to reduce inflammation.

@@igorkaczmarski7794 your cells are build from what you have eat, nature did not have animal and cooked food for us in mind when we evolved, hipec cannot cure anything food can. Non cooked vegetables 10-15%, 5-10% nuts and rest is fruits. This is not CURE this is only original food nature gave us, cure is in your body. In medicine they say there is no cure for cancer, however think about it there is NO cure for any other disease where we cure symptom and not cause other diseases are just less deadly than cancer however it catch you later on.
