Thanks for talking about how people always try to “talk down” or dismiss your concerns as an Autism mom. It’s really hurtful especially from family. I have learned to try to let it roll off my back because I know they will NEVER understand. Love your willingness to share and increase awareness.

I relate SO WELL with the social aspect of having a special needs child. Especially black families feel that our methods are too permissive and not customary for our culture. Accused of accommodating our children like non-black folk. They want us to enforce strict discipline and punishment for the behaviors of our angels. I so get it. You’re doing a BEAUTIFUL job with staying connected and on top of her needs and I salute you Sis. 💞💞💞

Yeah I was gonna touch on that. I’m not a special needs mom but I’ve noticed cultural differences in parenting. We are a black family but my methods may differ from that of other black families. It’s kind of like in politics. You have the far left and the far right or parenting style that’s borderline abuse and a style that is completely indulging the children not showing them right from wrong. Any parenting needs to be tailored for the needs of the child ie special needs🤷🏽‍♀️it’s that simple. There still needs to be a balanced approach and I think Ms Vaughn does that very well. I just discovered her channel and I had to do a little bit of research to see if Ann was special needs cause when she was bouncing on that furniture her mama shole said get yo butt down girl👀😂 now you know a white mama would have ignored that behavior special needs or otherwise. I appreciate that msVaughn caters to her needs accordingly but still don’t allow her to run a muck just because she has a disability. Nothing like a balanced Black American mama to keep these babies on a path to greatness😌

I think it’s time to be frank with your family members, and tell them to fall back. Their words and commentary are not helpful. As an educator, I get the sensitivity when talking about and interacting with a child on the spectrum. Boundaries need to be made. Thank you for sharing your story.

Exactly! As Vaughn spoke my mind went back to parents who may be in denial to once that diagnosis comes in, the shock, then the action plan. What can we do so that the child has the best tool available to assist in growth? I'm an educator as well and people don't always understand. I've had students that were reading grade levels above their age and people think they're ok because they can read so they can't be autistic. There's a lot to learn out here.

Don't pay those people ANY mind Vaughn! They can actually stay away if they can't understand her condition and what comes along with it. I am a childcare teacher with an autistic child in my class, and your updates with Anne helps me out a lot with activities and goals that I can provide even for my entire class. I am also able to pass the information on to the children’s parents. 👍🏾. My center does not offer trainings when providing for special ability children, so teachers have to research on their own.

Man I felt this to my soul. For me it’s been kinda lonesome even because my family has been very dismissive to my kids health and whatnot so it’s like.... I even have anxiety visiting them because I hate having to explain myself and argue with my family when I just want them to understand and be supportive.

❤️& RELATE TO THIS COMMENT SO MUCH!!! I like watching all of Vaughn’s vlogs because I am a teacher and first time (single) mom. I think my son has hyperlexia with traits of autism. My research and intuition tell me that he most likely does not have ASD but I still use some strategies likes PECS, written schedules to help maintain our daily routine, melatonin to help him sleep at appropriate times, and scripted prompts to help him understand language and respond accordingly.
I feel lonely in my motherhood journey and I have also read that many people won't understand my son's development and hyperlexia 3. But the blessing in all of this is learning and understanding the multi abilities of young children.

@@anbonner17 Yes. Like my daughter is 2 and I can STILL count on my fingers how many times she has seen her grandparents on my side and on her dad side they literally live down the street and they visit once every 4 months (honestly being generous with that estimate)
Like moms need breaks of course and its sad because when your pregnant everyone is so supportive and comforting but now when we need the most support its not there. Watching Ms Vaughn videos brought me soooo much comfort and her speaking out about this issue she's having made me feel not alone in this.

@@lunabunneh1687 My son is 5 and in Kindergarten. From August to October, I sat next to him during his distance learning. I was his teacher’s aide, teacher, speech therapist, and behavioral specialist! I am glad I had that time with him to train him to listen, focus, etc for school. I am now back in the workforce as a substitute teacher for quick money while trying to finish my final obligations for credential and teacher induction. With the pandemic, things are more difficult and my relationships with my parents and my son's dad are even more strained. Since I have opposing views of the virus, my parents chose not to help me with childcare. I respect their decision but I have no choice but to work and be exposed to more people (babysitter and a couple of people in the school office). I want to keep my distance from my parents as much as possible but I am not denying them the opportunity to visit their only grandchild. I love them all but it is team too much for me to be around them. I am beyond tired of the narcissistic, controlling, manipulative, and critical generational attitudes!

Omg!! You said so much!! Being a mom of a 23 year old autistic son, it was a hard journey, because I did it as a single mom and still doing it!! Every anxiety, frustrating, irritating, complicated situations that come your way, you feel it and it does affect you! You build tough skin, you become more outspoken and you learn to navigate through those who get it, and those who will NEVER understand!!! You’re doing an awesome job! I wish UA-cam was around when my son was younger, but I’m considering writing a book of my journey as well!! You and Anthony are amazing parents!!! Family and Friends can be the worse, but over time and education.... they will soon discover to keep their opinions to themselves!!

He is 11 and has been diagnosed well over 6 years ago so there still shouldn't still be any confusion. He is old enough to understand that he is being treated differently and it effects him....which then becomes a problem for me. So I had to distance him until they are ready. Some have changed their ways but others didn't and that is on them. I appreciate these vlogs because I see that its not only happening on my side. Thank You

I’m so tired of having to explain to people why I parent the way I do because of sensory issues etc. it’s already hard enough accepting the diagnosis & trying to grieve the life u expected your kid to have. Everyone wants to chime in & say what was helpful to their kids when in reality, unless they have an autistic kid then they will never understand! But Vaughn u are such an awesome mom I commend u & I just hope to be as great as a special needs parent as u are

I watch your videos sometimes and I just came across this video which has excellent content. Thank you for sharing "your experience" with your daughter as she continues to thrive. Yes, continues to thrive for those who feel as though she should acting differently or whatever. I have a niece who has autism. Her development is unique and none like we have ever experienced in our family. She is high-functioning with a very short attention span, particularly choosey about the color and texture of foods she will eat and has difficulty sleeping sometimes. As a family, like yours, we realized that our task is to make sure she is receiving love not criticism. When it comes to explaining to people about her condition we simply say there is nothing wrong with her. She is uniquely different. Thank God! And that is it! We actually love the fact that she is unpredictable. Your daughter has a happy spirit and great parents who are providing her with a very comprehensive support system. She also has a "village" of family and friends who support the family. There may be those within that circle that don't understand but just tell them this, "no disrespect but until you walk in our shoes, please be mindful of what you are saying. Words cannot be taken back. I love you, and thank you for your continued support". As an individual who worked for over ten years with DCFS with children who had special needs, I can tell you that the children improved their developmental disabilities by being around people who genuinely loved and supported them. Your daughter is receiving all that and then some. You and your husband be blessed and continue to fight the good fight. Do not get discouraged or question yourself. It appears Anne is quite the precious young lady that anyone would expect. Take care.

Continued blessings and know that only Anthony and you are living with your experiences 24/7!

Thank you for sharing! So informative. I wish my mom could’ve seen this when my brother was younger going through ASD. He’s now 17. As his sister being in the house everyday, I know the strength it takes for a parent to raise your child through the disorder. Your the perfect mother for Anne! She’s so blessed and will thrive in life because of you and Anthony ❤️

Thank you soooo much for talking about your experience as a special needs mom. I have the same experience with family and friends and it hurts every time I have to explain myself and my daughter’s condition. I especially hate it when I explain some behaviors that she may have and they responds with “well every kid does that... every kid misbehaves...” it’s not the same. It feels a little bit better knowing that we are not the only ones going through this. Thank you again. You are always so uplifting ❤️

Thank you for another great insightful video Vaughn. I have a neuro typical son and we all know parenting in itself is challenging and unchartered territory so blessing to you all.
I definitely don’t take for granted each milestone I see from my boy, and it is so wonderful to be able to share and watch sweet Anne.
Also I wish fam & friends would honestly mind their biz in general sometimes and not give unsolicited advice, especially when it’s not their own kid. I know sometimes their heart is in the right place but it is taxing, so again love and blessings to you, patience and strength.

When you said whew Chile🤦🏾‍♀️I know people on the outside try to tell moms what’s up with their child when the child is healthy I couldn’t imagine dealing with the unwanted commentary being a mom of a special needs child. That would def weight heavy on me as well. I must say from what I can see you’re doing an amazing job. Stay strong love❤️

As a fellow ASD mom of a 3.5 year old, I totally get it about family. I don’t open up about him because I know they won’t understand and I don’t want to hear their unsolicited comments. You are doing great and thanks for sharing. We need to get one of those canoes. My son is always asking me for a hug and I think this will help him.

Very helpful thank you. I personally didn’t out right tell people about my kid on the spectrum bc I just didn’t want him to feel different from others. All your struggles are mines too. I don’t have an opportunity to even speak to anyone going through this so your series mean a lot to me and others. Again thank you.

Love your videos and vlogs. I’m not raising a child with special needs but watched my oldest sister raise one and even though he’s 40, she’s STILL raising him because of his disabilities. I admire her whole heartedly and you and I want you to remain encouraged and know nobody knows your child like you and your Husband. Gods strength and peace to you both as you continue your parental journey and praying God sprinkle some understanding on your kinfolk!! 😬 Keep up your good work and encouraging other Austin Moms!!

Usually, individuals offering their opinions don't have a clue what's required in the care of a child with disabilities...as a mother of a child with disabilities...dismissed/shut down those negative individuals who don't offer assistance, respite care, or knowledgeable and useful information. You don't have the time or energy to waste...do you!
