The oval shape of the holes in the dogs bones isn't (or shouldn't be) the play you saw at the swing arm. The system is designed so that the dog bones, and the inner bearing race/pin (what you call the bushing) are fixed and locked together. The bearings roll and are the pivot. The dog bones can have square holes for all it matters.
Now, since the bearings shit the bed you can see the 'ribs' in the inner pin, this is called brinelling and it's where the roller has stopped rolling and now because of that a few rollers have dropped out and allowed the remaining rollers to hammer into the inner pin - that is what brinelling is, impacting of roller/balls into races.
    ;)

I see, so that's the technical way of saying those bearings were shagged Matt? Since they are apart again, but still in the pile of parts to be reviewed, it will be interesting to see how they have fared! Skäl David

It was your mate Delboy's old Bandit.

It was. Doubt it will be the last older bike I buy where that linkage is due for replacement.

Great video. I find it hard to focus too in the morning..Looks like you could do with a tripod it's a pain trying to juggle with the part and the camera. 😉👍👈

Thanks 99% of my filming is done with a tripod but while tripods are great when you have lots of space - sometimes there just isn't anywhere you can put them

Nice work Dave, that very slight difference between the old and new part, might have actually given quite a difference in ride height, so a good idea to stay with the original. I am lucky, I have a bearing dealer just up the road, if you need any more just shout mate.

+yankee doodle Cheers Chris, might just do that - it's a question of when for sure.
Hope you had a great day out today - I spent much of it at wedding fairs and booking large holes in my bank balance! Hope to catch you at the next one.

I didn't go today, MOT ran out on Thursday, couldn't get one booked in time, so its next Saturday now, then will be at Salisbury next month for sure.

Hi, what penetrating fluid did you use to free that stripped nut?

Honestly I can't recall. I know some people get very brand oriented and excited, but I can't say I find a lot of difference between the ones I've tried. Skäl David

They have been knackered for years. The video delboy did in 2013 shows they were dry even back then. You can see the rust ring around the rear most bearing and see that they were dry which is why he wasn't able to push the sleeve out easily. Had it been greased it would have slid out with a touch of the finger. ua-cam.com/video/gfDilCgv8os/v-deo.html

Yeah. One of the first jobs I ended up doing on the bike, mechanically anyway. But it’s one of those jobs that just get neglected on many bikes. I guess it was on his to do list. The bike had been off the road for a while and he didn’t finish everything he talked about doing. Skäl David
