Protection: Fitting The Best Radiator Guard

  • Modern bikes rely on a radiator for engine cooling, but this is delicate and sits right behind the front wheel where it is easily damaged.
    Fitting a radiator guard can help prevent the radiator getting damaged which risks losing coolant and worst case a seized engine. But at the same time, you don't want something heavy or something that will block air flow through the radiator.
    My choice for this is the Bagoros Performance radiator guard which is better designed than most on the market, so in this video I will show how easy it is to install.
    This video applies to the KTM small Dukes, RC and the Husqvarna 125, 250 and 401

    Now, I’m just a normal guy who likes working on bikes; I’m not a qualified mechanic but I’ve spent a lot of time working on bikes and most of the servicing you see is directly from the manufacturer workshop manuals. I like to show you interesting things you can do and that I’ve done with my bikes, but I can’t promise you that anything I show you will work on your bike as not everything is always exactly the same. Be careful not to harm yourself, anyone else or your bike and always be aware that if you have a warranty then changing or working on your bike can invalidate it - they do love an excuse not to have to pay out. If you have any doubt then talk to a qualified mechanic or engineer and make up your own mind.

    Thanks for this - I was thinking of turning my 390 into a scrambler too. I look forward to watching your video on installing a skid plate.

    Hey man. Thank you for continuing content with the 390 Duke. I have the same one (18’) and as a new rider you help. For some reason there is no content on this bike to learn from or just any English speaking content.

      Thanks much appreciated. I intend to be making more content - just trying to rationalise my shed space with some upgrades!

    I agree. I have it on my 22’ 390 Duke. Extremely good quality!Everything product I have bought from them has impressed me, and I have spent over $1,000 usd with them. The only product I had issues with was the rear sub-cage(mine has issues)

      Nice. What issues did you have? I know rust can become an issue because it's just the nature of using plasma/laser cutters to create products that are then powder coated, but that is just a maintenance issue.

      Well it was a mess from the start. Before, I had always had really good luck with the company, until I ordered the Rear Sub-cage.
      So when I ordered it, it was not listed as a pre-order, but for whatever reason after the fact, they said it was. Now they did have some bad weather issues in that area that caused a lot of damage to the area they live, but it took almost 5 months for me to get the part. Not only that I had to keep bugging the hell out of them, until finally got it after at least 4 1/2 months.
      I don’t know if it was because it was rushed, or they had manufacturing issues, but the tolerances were off. The inner part was slightly smaller than the outer part that it bolted to. Since it’s such a beefy piece of steel the little bitty screws that go into the anodized aluminum plate on the inside just popped out under pressure. I actually wasn’t even tightening the screws that popped out. I was setting the positioning screws on the outside and I heard a pop and then a screw hit something. That little plate isn’t strong enough to pull those beefy pieces of steel together. So yeah, mine doesn’t quite lineup, and there’s really nothing to do about it. After the headache, I went through getting it, and timing with the winter weather, I just put the cover on it and didn’t look at it for months. I would like to get a replacement aluminum part, but I don’t know if I’m even gonna mess with it to be honest.
      Sorry it’s long-winded answer, but that’s what happened. It is nice, it’s just off and has stripped out threads when I was very careful and lubed everything up before assembling as I watched your video and followed it to the tee.
      Definitely a little disappointing

    could you make a video how to fit a bypass for the duke 390 2017 model (facelift) I only find videos en products for the adventure and older 390 bikes... For now i put a washer between the magnetic bolt and side stand. Engine cut off 6 times this week... The washer is a good temporary fix, but the bolt now pushes the sensor away each time I use the side stand.

    Great video I've just purchased a 2017 duke and was wondering what mirrors you use I've seen on one of your videos you had a small round one thanks

      Thanks. Oxford sell a version, but there are many different sellers who sell the same ones so shop around once you know what you are looking for. As with all mirrors, your body and arm shapes will dictate which mirrors work for you.

    Any idea why my 390 smokes blue on coldstart as if it's burning oil. Doesn't happen once the engine is warm. Done a compression test to see if theres something wrong with the pistonring, but it was fine.

    • @MotoMirius
      @MotoMirius  Місяць тому

      Mine does that. Valve seals are a likely culprit - a little oil can drain into the cylinder while the bike is off. I will check mine when I get round to pulling the head.

    Hi i have the svartpilen 401 (same engine of the duke) and i want to change front sprocket or rear to get more top speed because i do a lot of highway and at 80 mph the engine is at 8000rpm and i want to reduce the rpm to 7000-7400 what do you recomend?

    • @MotoMirius
      @MotoMirius  3 місяці тому

      For motorway use I run a 15 42 which drops the revs just enough that at 70 I'm just below the 7000 revs at which my oversized fuel injector starts to dump fuel into the engine and increasing the fuel consumption. I wouldn't run smaller on the rear. You can get a similar effect with a 16 on the front but they can be hard to find.

    Just watched some of your vids .great content and filming but the awkward forced hand movements while speaking to camera are off putting.

      No forced hand movements, I tend to talk with my hands when I'm explaining things - it would be difficult not to do it, but perhaps I might be more aware of it. Thanks
