By targeting british passport holders WA is getting applicants who will be prioritised in the notoriously laggardly federal processing system. And because ministerial direction 100 is federal it applies to ALL states. So that prioritisation in processing applies to ALL applicants in all states. A state that doesnt take advantage of that can expect its migrant applications to wallow at the bottom of the piles of applications. All WA is doing is taking advantage of the process created by the feds. For what its worth, that prioritisation is likely based on the fact that british migrants require less resources to adapt here - all new permanent residents get at least 500 hours of free english as a second language TAFE courses - which british applicants dont need - and the skill assessments are easier to do because the standards tend to be closely aligned. Put bluntly, british migrants are cheaper - and easier - to integrate into Australian society. Hong kong passport holder prioritisation was done because of the moral issues presented by the CPC’s brutal and illegal takeover of hong kong.

Its just playing to the local crowd. West Aussie here. Born in England, came out as a 2 year old in 1970. Perth has tripled in size since we arrived, but we do have a fantastic lifestyle. More laid back than say Melbourne or Sydney. The suburbs are built along the coast and inland toward the Darling Scarp. Public transport is pretty good - trains and buses run on time. We're sports mad, 3 hrs from Bali (closer than Sydney) long summers, mild winters (in comparison to the East coast) We are often the butt of jokes and forgotten about, but we don't care. I've been all over our country, but will always come home to WA. We are the most isolated capital city in the world, the city with the most hours of sunlight (on average) and at least a third of our population was born overseas. Come for a holiday and see why we love living here.
Your visits have been a fantastic discovery over the past week! I’m in my second year of primary teaching in the UK, and seeing your videos has made me see that it could be feasible for me to keep aiming to live out there in a few years. Im not from perth but i could understand someone wanting to live there. The weather isnt tropical or humid, its a very dry heat, sort of a meditaranean climate and the winters are generally pretty mild not a wet and dry season like qld although probly the top third of WA has the same weather as queensland. Down south around albany and esperance the weather is cooler.
I'm from Perth and can confirm. This was a great video. I think WA has the highest concentration of poms anywhere in Australia (or so I was told once :)

Sydney is milder than melb but does get a fair bit of rain. Perth doesnt get the rainfall that brisbane sydney and melb get. Brisbane is more subtropical. Perths, weather is a bit more stable
Just back after 6 week stay in Perth from Ireland visiting my daughter. Its not as expensive as I was expecting especially compared to Dublin Ireland. Hotels alot cheaper and wine most definitely lol. As I retired recently and still under 50 I am seriously considering the move. It really was vastly better than living in Europe.
I was born & raised in Perth & grew up loving the beach & outdoors life and even in my teens rented an apartment in Scarborough with my mates & they were awesome memories of surfing/road bikes/trail bikes & panel vans, pubs & live pub bands & georgeous women. I am now married to my soulmate a gorgious vibrant outgoing & funny English girl from Cornwell UK who who idolises Perth and our lifestyle (and she idolises me of course). She loves the laid back Aussie guy attitude where nothing fusses us and our chilled out attitude to life but we still work hard to achieve success We now live near not far from Hillarys Marina in a big house (land 1,300m2) with pool & bali style backyard and a double garage & a workshop with a hoist for my classic cars, we have a 4wd & a caravan and still love our camping trips away up and down the WA coast (even lived in Broome for 3yrs). In 1hr 15min we can be in awesome Lancelin for a weekend gettaway sitting at the tavern on the lawn on the beach watching the sunset or having fun in our 4wd on the sand dunes or just soaking up the stunning beaches. In 1hr 15min we can be back home. I/we have travelled extensively and there are great places to holiday within Austalia & overseas, but in the end you can't beat the lifestyle here for your base for day to day living & working. Our favourite local getaway places to drive to easily are Dunsborough, lancelin, Kalbarri. Longer trips by car are Albany, Esperance (best beaches on this planet), Exmouth & Coral Bay

The best thing you can do is join an engineering consultancy company in the UK like Jacobs, Atkins, Mott Macdonald. etc and get a couple of years experience then either transfer out with said company or apply to Australian based jobs from the UK. They will bite your hand off as they are so desperate for people. I am not an engineer but work for a engineering consultancy in the UK and I have two options to go to Australia this year, one with my current employer and one for a new place. I have 20 years experience though

Our economy is pretty well tied to the USA. The good part is we are “on delay” behind america so we have the opportunity to ease any problems. For instance when the GFC hit we had enough time to react and it barely affected us.
As a Australian. Western Australia is very large. Perth is a clean well developed state. Very good living standard. Even to U.S standards. Australian wages high . All workers have a mandatory 401K paid by employers. Minimum About 10%.But it's one of most isolated cities in the world 🌎 and l dont live there but have been there !...
Remember we don't have to tip people to help cover their wages here and we don't have stupid taxes ontop of the price of items we purchase because it's included in the price of everything. Some items at the grocery store have different names but if you describe what your after it shouldn't be a problem for a sales person to help you find what you're looking for. After all we with way to much American TV shows and know what your talking about.

I was however shocked and very disappointed by how the Australian government treated Australians during covid, particularly Australians like myself, who didn't want to be injected with dangerous untested poisons made by corrupt American criminal pharmaceutical companies.

Ohh, I'm from Perth. Parents born in England. There are honestly so many brits in Perth, it would easily be the most British city in the country. Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane are far more interesting and fun, especially if you're young. But Perth has amazing wages and it's affordable. It has a bit of a different mentality to the rest of the country, like the idea of privatising assets is completely taboo in WA. The gov also reserves 10% of LNG for domestic use, so my quarterly gas bill was never more than $17. WA very much sees itself as part of Australia but just a bit different to the rest of the country. Plus you can easily fly to Bali or Singapore for the weekend for $200 return.

You should do it! I'd suggest researching where there is a need for occupational therapists or workers in general and not just in Australia. Therefore, you have many options when you graduate and begin looking for jobs abroad! I plan to apply for social work positions once I graduate with my master's, not just where I'll be studying but in New Zealand too. Good luck!
@@elozzaa7456 If you can afford it you would do better to apply for a student visa to do your studies in Australia. Gives you a direct in and work experience. That leads to a permanent residence visa if you can get a job after you finish your studies. For an occupational therapy graduate that would be easy. Downside is the potential costs. Student visa allows you to work up to 20 hours per week but you may be able to get a variation on that because I understand students in occupational therapy do compulsory work experience in the hospitals. The big advantage is that if you are a resident and you apply on the skills list your application gets priority. Occupational therapists are now on the skills shortage list in WA but that changes. It may change by the time you graduate. That probably applies in all the other states and territories too. Difference is that WA is a bit less expensive to live and its universities enjoy a high reputation. Brisbane is probably the closest competition to Perth when it comes to balancing living costs and university quality. Id post the skill list link but if I do youtube will delete this comment.

Each state is slightly different mate....We have HECS (Higher Education Contribution Scheme) in NSW. You borrow money for your course & pay it back little by little once you start working, but this would only be available to aussie citizens...the price of courses differ...
Because Perth summers are hot and dry, evaporative cooling systems are popular and effective there and very cheap to run. But don't try it in Brisbane.

A lot of schools do HASS until senior then they may offer History separately. I'd advise to look to offer history and another subject. It's common in Australia to be able to teach multiple subjects

In the 2021 Government Census the top countries of birth in Greater Perth were Australia, then England (169,938), New Zealand, South Africa and Scotland. East coast is extremely humid. Further north you go the more humid it gets because northern australia is subtropical. West coast is dry and is often described as "mediterranean" weather. Can be hot and dry during the day and cool at night. Perth itself is the sunniest capital city in the world (thats official). Its also one of the windiest - second or third in the world. Again WA is subtropical in the north. WA also experiences extreme trade winds in the north during summer (due to the immense heat rising off the deserts). Its those tradewinds that the Dutch used to get to their colonial holdings in Indonesia, so WA has many historical dutch shipwrecks (including the infamous Batavia wreck on the Houtman Abrolhos islands). The further inland you go the hotter it gets. That applies right around Australia. When I say hot, I mean turn your oven up to its hottest setting for an hour then open its door and stand in front of it. Its that kind of heat. In NSW and queensland you can add drippy humidity to that misery. On the flip side winters are never really cold - except in the south east states. Tasmania is cooler more temperate climate - can be very cold and gets snow in places. Quite rainy too. Its very close to Antarctica and that shows Southern coast of Australia - from south australia across victoria tends to vary from cold to hot, with rain interspersed. Further east you go the more humid it tends to be when warm. Melbourne sometimes experiences that all in one day. As you go inland towards canberra from Melbourne you get into the Australian Alps. As it sounds that can be very very cold -especially at night - and experiences snow. Canberra is frequiently below ) celsius at night (as are many desert regions), especially in winter. Ive seen lots of tourists make the mistake of thinking Australia is hot and then freeze in Canberra. Overall, hot days tend to be hotter than other countries. ps if you are soon to be living here remember to ALWAYS wear a hat in the sun. Ive seen lots of heat casualties over the years and dopey european tourists regularly die from heat stroke here because they dont know the basics of dealing with the sun and heat. In WA and parts of the north the sun will give you 3rd degree burns in about 10 minutes if youre pale and you dont use cream or cover up. Its not as extreme elsewhere.
best weather is around Perth in the southwest. Med climate, and not humid. East Coast is good too (around Sunshine Coast & Gold Coast), warmer water, but high in humidity. Perth area is flat with dry vegetation, whilst the East Coast has mountains and is more green.

There are some, but most of the time it is HASS. I was a geography HOD now I teach English full time. The question isn't how much do you love your subject, but how much do you want to live in Australia?
I live in W. A. having moved from S. A. 50 years ago. There is everything here that you can find in other states just maybe less in numbers. e.g. 3 instead of 6. It doesn't feel isolated living here because we have it all as well as things and scenery you won't find anywhere else. A great place for bringing up children. W.A. has a very relaxed life style generally and I think the work/life balance is better than the eastern states. Oh yes! about three quarters of us are Australian.

Why? W.A. has lots of them! I think it's because the climate is very similar and it's closer to South Africa if they want a trip back. It does take a while for many of them to get used to our Aboriginal people. They are not servants here.

I've been watching your videos for a while now, and I've just realised you're from Reading. I live in the same place, I migrated here a couple of years ago. However, England has been changing a lot, and not in a good way. I've been contemplating the idea of moving to Australia as soon as I finish my degree in engineering. The best thing you can do is join an engineering consultancy company in the UK like Jacobs, Atkins, Mott Macdonald. etc and get a couple of years experience then either transfer out with said company or apply to Australian based jobs from the UK. They will bite your hand off as they are so desperate for people. I am not an engineer but work for a engineering consultancy in the UK and I have two options to go to Australia this year, one with my current employer and one for a new place. I have 20 years experience though

Our economy is pretty well tied to the USA. The good part is we are “on delay” behind america so we have the opportunity to ease any problems.
For instance when the GFC hit we had enough time to react and it barely affected us.

As a Australian. Western Australia is very large. Perth is a clean well developed state. Very good living standard. Even to U.S standards. Australian wages high . All workers have a mandatory 401K paid by employers. Minimum About 10%.But it's one of most isolated cities in the world 🌎 and l dont live there but have been there !...

Remember we don't have to tip people to help cover their wages here and we don't have stupid taxes ontop of the price of items we purchase because it's included in the price of everything. Some items at the grocery store have different names but if you describe what your after it shouldn't be a problem for a sales person to help you find what you're looking for. After all we with way to much American TV shows and know what your talking about.

I was however shocked and very disappointed by how the Australian government treated Australians during covid, particularly Australians like myself, who didn't want to be injected with dangerous untested poisons made by corrupt American criminal pharmaceutical companies.

Ohh, I'm from Perth. Parents born in England. There are honestly so many brits in Perth, it would easily be the most British city in the country. Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane are far more interesting and fun, especially if you're young. But Perth has amazing wages and it's affordable. It has a bit of a different mentality to the rest of the country, like the idea of privatising assets is completely taboo in WA. The gov also reserves 10% of LNG for domestic use, so my quarterly gas bill was never more than $17. WA very much sees itself as part of Australia but just a bit different to the rest of the country. Plus you can easily fly to Bali or Singapore for the weekend for $200 return.

You should do it! I'd suggest researching where there is a need for occupational therapists or workers in general and not just in Australia. Therefore, you have many options when you graduate and begin looking for jobs abroad! I plan to apply for social work positions once I graduate with my master's, not just where I'll be studying but in New Zealand too. Good luck!
@@elozzaa7456 If you can afford it you would do better to apply for a student visa to do your studies in Australia. Gives you a direct in and work experience. That leads to a permanent residence visa if you can get a job after you finish your studies. For an occupational therapy graduate that would be easy. Downside is the potential costs. Student visa allows you to work up to 20 hours per week but you may be able to get a variation on that because I understand students in occupational therapy do compulsory work experience in the hospitals. The big advantage is that if you are a resident and you apply on the skills list your application gets priority.
Occupational therapists are now on the skills shortage list in WA but that changes. It may change by the time you graduate. That probably applies in all the other states and territories too. Difference is that WA is a bit less expensive to live and its universities enjoy a high reputation. Brisbane is probably the closest competition to Perth when it comes to balancing living costs and university quality. Id post the skill list link but if I do youtube will delete this comment.

Each state is slightly different mate....We have HECS (Higher Education Contribution Scheme) in NSW. You borrow money for your course & pay it back little by little once you start working, but this would only be available to aussie citizens...the price of courses differ...

A lot of schools do HASS until senior then they may offer History separately. I'd advise to look to offer history and another subject. It's common in Australia to be able to teach multiple subjects

@@ryanbell4952Australia Govt has declared its first offshore wind zone in Bass Strait near Melbourne.. 2nd and 3rd offshore wind zones being considered off the Newcastle and the Illawarra ( both either side of Sydney). Would assume there will be great work opportunities in the near future. The Bass Strait one may offer work for Engineers very soon as it will be going into the design phase.

It depends on what you prefer. Australia can be so varied
East coast is extremely humid. Further north you go the more humid it gets because northern australia is subtropical.
West coast is dry and is often described as "mediterranean" weather. Can be hot and dry during the day and cool at night. Perth itself is the sunniest capital city in the world (thats official). Its also one of the windiest - second or third in the world. Again WA is subtropical in the north. WA also experiences extreme trade winds in the north during summer (due to the immense heat rising off the deserts). Its those tradewinds that the Dutch used to get to their colonial holdings in Indonesia, so WA has many historical dutch shipwrecks (including the infamous Batavia wreck on the Houtman Abrolhos islands).
The further inland you go the hotter it gets. That applies right around Australia. When I say hot, I mean turn your oven up to its hottest setting for an hour then open its door and stand in front of it. Its that kind of heat. In NSW and queensland you can add drippy humidity to that misery. On the flip side winters are never really cold - except in the south east states.
Tasmania is cooler more temperate climate - can be very cold and gets snow in places. Quite rainy too. Its very close to Antarctica and that shows
Southern coast of Australia - from south australia across victoria tends to vary from cold to hot, with rain interspersed. Further east you go the more humid it tends to be when warm. Melbourne sometimes experiences that all in one day.
As you go inland towards canberra from Melbourne you get into the Australian Alps. As it sounds that can be very very cold -especially at night - and experiences snow. Canberra is frequiently below ) celsius at night (as are many desert regions), especially in winter. Ive seen lots of tourists make the mistake of thinking Australia is hot and then freeze in Canberra.
Overall, hot days tend to be hotter than other countries.
ps if you are soon to be living here remember to ALWAYS wear a hat in the sun. Ive seen lots of heat casualties over the years and dopey european tourists regularly die from heat stroke here because they dont know the basics of dealing with the sun and heat. In WA and parts of the north the sun will give you 3rd degree burns in about 10 minutes if youre pale and you dont use cream or cover up. Its not as extreme elsewhere.

best weather is around Perth in the southwest. Med climate, and not humid. East Coast is good too (around Sunshine Coast & Gold Coast), warmer water, but high in humidity. Perth area is flat with dry vegetation, whilst the East Coast has mountains and is more green.

There are some, but most of the time it is HASS. I was a geography HOD now I teach English full time. The question isn't how much do you love your subject, but how much do you want to live in Australia?
Are there Australians living in Perth?
I live in W. A. having moved from S. A. 50 years ago. There is everything here that you can find in other states just maybe less in numbers. e.g. 3 instead of 6. It doesn't feel isolated living here because we have it all as well as things and scenery you won't find anywhere else.
A great place for bringing up children. W.A. has a very relaxed life style generally and I think the work/life balance is better than the eastern states. Oh yes! about three quarters of us are Australian.

@@Fish29077 Except that coal has taken over AGAIN as Australias big export dollar earner now iron ore has slumped back to realistic levels. Other states now make more than WA as they have historicaly. WA has gone bankrupt twice in the last 20 years and has had to be bailed out by the East. A fact that most lollypops in WA dont know. I personaly think the East should just let WA go bust again and just let it go. Just like how WA wants it. The Chinese could just mine it out and then use it as a garbage tip.
