Reminds me of the great Joe Venuti, a great practical joker. Once he called up every tuba player in the NYC directory and had them meet on the corner outside his apartment. Hundreds of confused tuba players were scratching their heads wondering where the gig was. It caused a severe road block. Mind you the local MU made him pay for their time! On another occasion at interval he put loads of flour down the tuba while the player was elsewhere. You can guess what happened.

Wrong. It wasn’t in NYC; it was in L.A., and there certainly weren’t “Hundreds” of tuba players there-maybe 6 or 7.
Ronald Reuben l got this anecdote from a book by Bill Crow. The book has some very funny stories.
