I drink multiple cups of coffee per day and use whole milk in them. I have ketone strips that I use daily and I remain in ketosis. The autophagy question is a good one as I have never tested for glucose or insulin. Since August I have lost 68 lbs with 30 more to go. I eat twice a day in a 6 hour window. I'm 71 so that has to be factored in too.
I don't drink my coffee in a lab - I drink it just like my Two Fit Docs, so thanks for this study! BTW Dr. Becky - I started watching your videos last summer and I"m about 8 pounds from a goal weight I never thought I'd see again. Your common sense, easy to follow advice has gotten me there.
OMG Ken you are glowing. You look so very much younger, your skin is looking so healthy. Thank you 2 FIT Docs and God bless you for doing these inquiries. They do answer real questions that so many of us have. especially those who are seriously insulin resistant., those of us who have done keto for any length of time, and for those of us who stall and need to find out/ investigate just what is actually working against us. I so appreciate that you two are TWO DIFFERENT TYPES. This is unlike many other UA-camrs who share just what works for them. We are all so very different! I agree it is all about if you are IN or OUT of 'FAT~BURNING' mode. God bless your journey and Keto-On! , From MN with luv- g
Keith, I am the same in the morning as you. I do not register ketones until the afternoon. A bit discouraging but every body responds different. I love your n=2 experiments. Love the work you both do.
You 2 seem like wonderful people and you have great info in your videos. The haters are just not reading Keith's mug. I am down about 14 lbs this past month and feel great by eating as few carbs as possible and not shying away from fat. I also try to stay around 1500 calories (1400-1800). I don't follow a strict IF routine as it doesn't seem as though I need to... yet. But I try to put off "breakfast" as long as possible. I usually end up eating around 11:30am. I was pleased to see these results as I do put a little whole milk in my coffee in the morning. I'm guessing, although not sure, that this would not be much different than half&half. Thanks guys.
Thank you. I really appreciate seeing the difference between the two of you. I admire Keith so much, seeing that he has more of a struggle physiologically, seeing his persistence and where he has arrived due to that persistence. It helps me to know that I must stay ever vigilant, and keep pressing on every day, doing the best I can with my own physiology. I thank you both.
Amen and I so agree. The race is not given to the swift or to the strong.... but to he who endures until the end. Run your race dear~ the end is closer...at least in sight! Stay strong and KETO-ON!
@@gaylejideofor6198thank you for such a beautiful and inspiring message that applies to all of life's endeavours. Encouragement greatly appreciated and utilized!
Thanks for doing this test. I use whipping cream in my coffee but sometimes I can't get it and this is good to know. The one thing I like about whipping cream over half and half is that I feel I can get a more satisfying cup of coffee with a lot less whipping cream then I do with half and half. In other words I find I've got to put more than two tablespoons a lot more in order to get a really nice tasting coffee. Thanks
I see that's it's been awhile since the video came out. But I'd wanted to thank you for your test. This is my takeaway 1. I HAVE to get a glucometer 😄 2. I also have a very stubborn insulin problem. And Dr. Keith's results were important to me. 3. I CAN intermittently fast with the bulletproof coffee. 4. Will not waste money with mct powder. Once again thanks for your pain. 😀😀 Stella 😀
I love these videos--it's what drove me to sign up with Dr Becky. Common sense, realistic explanations for simple folks like me. Good job. Keep 'em coming!!
I just got a glucose/Ketone meter and am happy to know that my usual coffee with half-and-half will work as I try to increase my intermittent fasting window. This video was extremely helpful and encouraging for me to press on. Thank you Drs Becky and Keith for this wonderful video.
I also love the info and testing you do for ALL of us! I'm so sick of reading comments from keto "police" EVERYWHERE! I think maybe it's a "I need to prove how smart I am" complex??? Idk, but everyone does what works for THEM, and your testing helps us figure out options! Thanks again! 😁
I love your kitchen tests because your results are different with a lot of them. So it shows that people need to do the tests for themselves since results seem to vary. We all have different metabolism and react to everything so differently. ❤
Fantastic! Thanks for suffering through the finger lances for us! I'm in Australia and most of the milk (equivalent to your half and half) is made incorporating what the dairy industry calls "permeate" That's the waste after they remove the milk fat and that is often put into our milk. As a consequence, the milk sugar (ie lactose goes up from 8-14% in raw unpasturised milk up to over 24%) I have a friend working in a dairy lab and the highest he saw was ....38% lactose... (the government stepped in but it still happens) Everyone here pushes low fat! Is it any wonder there are so many people suffering from lactose intolerance!
I'm surprised that half and half didn't raise glucose significantly. All this time was using heavy cream only. Need the creams to tame the beast or coffee by itself is too bitter. Anyways thank you both for all the info you've provided and love your channel.
Interesting how differently the two of you react in these tests. My ketones tend to be similar to Keith's. Sometimes I get them up to 2.6 though. I just wish it was more consistent.
Awesome tests to help with practical application of keto/IF. So, theoretically, if one wants a second serving of coffee (and half and half), they could have one at the three hour mark? I might just stick with plain tea, but loooove my coffee. . .Thanks a million!
You two made my day with this news. FANTASTIC! I had heard that dairy increased insulin and was a no no while intermittent fasting (so I'm happy to hear it doesn't raise glucose or lower ketones). Your results will prompt me to drink a smaller coffee (instead of my normal XL) with one serving of half and half as part of my SUCCESSFUL intermittent fasting regimen. Woohoo!!
@@sandrabentley1420 thanks for the clarification as I know it's going to matter for those who may be diabetic or pre-diabetic. I was just concerned the half and half would knock me out of ketosis so if it does increase insulin after all but not blood glucose, that's still what I'm looking for. I'll edit my reply so as not to confuse people who don't watch the whole video. Cheers!
Technically it will break a fast. 2 scoops has 70 calories and 18g of protein. It will probably not raise your blood sugar much because it has no carbs. Your body could convert some of the collagen into sugar through gluconeogennis. If you really want to fast, just drink h2o, teas and coffee without any additives, like cream or mct oil.
Thanks for another great video. Keith, your fasting blood sugar, like mine, seems to be a bit high reading in the high 90's to low 100's. I've read that ideally, it should be in the 80's fasted. Your thoughts on this and are you still talking berberine? Have you considered Metformin?
Don't mind (pay attention to) the comments about how your tests are not controlled, doubled blinded, or valid, etc, etc, etc. Research Scientists don't always remove the variables, in their research.

In addition, they always tell us our results can be different. Sounds like we both have seen even less from 'scientists' at times!
Very interesting and I would say that this test was quite scientific...enough to consider it a guideline. My (silly) question is...why are Keith's ketones higher? Is there any explanation for that?
Love these videos. So informative. I have enjoyed so many tremendous benefits from IF, but I need monk fruit and light cream in my morning hot tea-it’s a crutch, I know. Any tips? Do I need to give it up? Lol
I enjoy watching your kitchen test. I have been wondering if I should switch from heavy whipping cream to half and half. I started keto in January but by February stopped tracking.
