Let this be a lesson to never screw around with your phone behind the wheel ever again. You are very fortunate all you're looking at is a tow bill for this incident and not a hospital bill for yourself and others.
last one I had with a van in a similar situation was a van on a dirt back road, went into a ditch full of trees on either side, little did I know it had a tree stump caught in between it and the side step, Tried winching... nothing, tried re rigging and winching... nothing, was going to break my cable, such a steep muddy ditch I couldn't climb down to see what was going on, assumed it was just stuck on a rock or something, not much I can do, 20-foot drop into a river or I can keep winching to try and get it out at the very least, called a second truck for a V rigging recovery, We both start winching it eventually comes, broke the side step clean off, we finally see what it was caught on, perfect sized stump to get right up in the side step lol.
Tom Redmond I did not reference gut, stupid. The van on the side of the road had nothing to do with texting or any type of accident, stupid. It's simply a test to jokers like yourself to determine if you believe everything you read, interperlate with your low IQ, and then go off. LOL. Congrat's on being one of the dumbest.
The driver also forgot in the state of Michigan it has been illegal to use text or talk on a cell phone when driving a vehicle. Always better to find a safe place to park to use a cell phone since distracted driving has been proven to be as bad as drunk driving.
I agree with majority of the comments. Only need 1 line. Pull on the high side from the driver side front wheel and it has no chance of rolling. Pull from the opposite side of the road since its quiet there and you would have been done within 5 minutes.
yea i don't think pulling control arm side ways is best either. I don't know how it is with private guys but at CAA we are not allowed to have customer anywhere near towed vehicle.
I think this tow truck driver has fooled you all, and you have all missed the point......even the driver of the van. What he has managed to masterfully accomplish has been overlooked. Could he have used simpler rigging? could he have used a faster technique? could this all have been accomplished in half the time? Yes, prolly. But instead what we have here folks is a premium job of taking your time, making it look more complicated than it needs to be, and without question making the van driver feel confident that he is getting what he is paying for, a competent job. Money folks, we do this because we love it, but we need to pay bills too.....MONEY. try telling somebody you need $200 to pull your $30,000 car out of a ditch, and then proceed to accomplish this complicated and dangerous task in like 5 minutes....THIS video justifies the means. Ok, sorry about the dry humor.
run a vehicle into the ditch over a notification from match.com -- Awesome Priorities. you do realize that vehicle is a 6,000 pound bullet, that you are responsible for controlling right?
If you look closely when he takes his equipment off of the tree. It looks like he used an endless loop strap around the tree and hooked the snatch block to the loop
I would have but only because of differing equipment. That van was far from turning over but better safe than sorry. That's all his line from the tree to the vehicle was, a safety catch if it did want to slide down and overturn.
IV been driving a tow truck for 5 yrs been around it for 25 yrs my dad has drove tow trucks all his left and still is.... I could have had it out by the time he got all his cable and chains out and been gone this tow truck guy must have not been doing it long but everyone has different was I guess
Wrong. You will fight it if you grab the light side. Go in front of the truck and pull on the drivers side rim from the opposite side of the road with about 35,45 degree boom height. It would pop right out.
To keep the front from sliding down the culvert on soft ground. He didn’t “need” it, it wasn’t absolutely necessary, but it’s a safety precaution. If he pulled it and it DID slide and damage anything (his van or the tow vehicle attached (don’t forget how much force is in those cables when they finally break)), he would’ve been held liable. But if you watch closely, he doesnt seem to do anything except make it taut, real work is done from the back. Only thing I think I would’ve done different with the side hook would be to mount it to the frame instead of the suspension. Though that may be harder to accomplish with the vehicle resting on the ground like that.
Here is yet another situation where simple lumber would have made it mush easier. Drop the lumber in front of the passenger side wheels and pull it straight out. But if you like to use snatch blocks and you have a good tree nearby good job.:)
well, next time you may not be so lucky.....what if you are reading your book while driving, and you mow down a young child,or cause a serious accident? you will have a death on your conscience.... could you live with that?
That was a terrible recovery, by the way. Just because it was "successful" in the end, doesnt mean it was correct. I'd be surprised if he didnt tear the crap out of your suspension.
let me tell you a bit about my self... I'm currently in the top 20 in the uk in muay Thai,I'm un beaten in 78 fights..... I've just finished the MMA here in the uk...... so,I'm ready when you are ......and you are going to beat the shit out of me? hahaha ha...... one of my friends is Michel qissi.... Google him..... he used to be my sparing partner..... so come beat the shit out of me.... little man...!!!!
Damn 90% of these comments sound like their from angry unemployed tow truck drivers 😂 "i would have done it in half the time" shut up no you wouldnt have
Yeah, he did. I had to get the front end fixed two days later. I noticed a binding noise when I left the scene. I took it to Snider's in West Branch and they fixed. Check the dates.
I think you all missed the point here! the guy drives a mini van and got a reply on match .com!!!!!!
LOL
too bad the tow truck driver was on grindr that's why he did it so fast,.. he had an "appointment" at the rest area on the interstate!!!
I have no plans to quit. I read entire books between here and Florida. 1325 miles.
Let this be a lesson to never screw around with your phone behind the wheel ever again. You are very fortunate all you're looking at is a tow bill for this incident and not a hospital bill for yourself and others.
Get out of my way when I'm texting.
I admire your dedication to responding to so many comments!
Thanks.
A+ = True pro.
"Hey check this out guys, two wheel motion in the van...hold my Zima!"
Chosen Won- 2013
He made this job longer then it had to be
Harder you make it look the more you can charge
Excellent job on the double yank.

How did u end up getting your truck like that. I have to say that tow truck guy knows what he’s doing
Well... its like driving from Miami to New York throug Los Angeles .,!!
Maybe, if the driver of the van had some minimal driving skills, he would not have needed a tow truck to save his ass.
Who cares what you think, stupid? After years of getting head from guys while driving you probably do drive a little better.

Tom Redmond Now get the fuck lost.
Chosen Won outstanding response lmao. Damn.

Coulda, woulda, shoulda.
I don't think a semi-sideways pull was the best idea here. hook the back, have the driver turn the steering toward the ditch and winch out.
Thanks.
I would have done it how the driver did it. Keeps the customer safe in case the vehicle did happen to roll over.
yea i don't think pulling control arm side ways is best either. I don't know how it is with private guys but at CAA we are not allowed to have customer anywhere near towed vehicle.
TheEdisse That's a good idea also but the snatch block works every time
Maybe hook through the snatch block on the stinger to keep the pull low, tension, crank the wheel yourself and rope it in place, then pull.
Yes hook the back winch straight out. Wam Bam thank you Mam...
MegaOzzy28 if u did that it would just drag it along the ditch or the nose would then slide in possibly causing damage,

Yup, could have pulled it out "safely" with a medium size 4x4 pickup blazer or ramcharger.
The Old Snatch Block Trick
the beauty of a twin line ,..but a block to the tree and then to the rear of the truck would have done just fine!!
run a vehicle into the ditch over a notification from match.com -- Awesome Priorities. you do realize that vehicle is a 6,000 pound bullet, that you are responsible for controlling right?
I'm sure every date you had half the guys drove on the ditch on the way home.
Hey damn sure made that happen
This towie is using a common 4x4 recovery system........
Never use a chain around a tree! Always use a strap or synthetic rope or something that won't damage the tree.
Bark grows back
If you look closely when he takes his equipment off of the tree. It looks like he used an endless loop strap around the tree and hooked the snatch block to the loop
Looks like he bent the tied rods.. lol
Not at enough of an angle to worry about tipping
Obviously a very well trained tow truck driver.
As long as he connected to the high side of the vehicle it will never roll over.
+Puckgrinder85 Thanks.
+Puckgrinder85 Would you have done the procedure differently?
I would have but only because of differing equipment. That van was far from turning over but better safe than sorry. That's all his line from the tree to the vehicle was, a safety catch if it did want to slide down and overturn.
+Puckgrinder85 Thanks.
Thinking with the "Little Head" again. It can get costly.
+John J. Bluvas Tell me about it.
Muito bom

+justin rhodes Thanks.
it gone done thats what counts lol
just curious. how would you of done it?
Already having bad luck over that girl lol
Was this in Idaho?
MI
Did you ever meet the person you got a match with lol
Yeah.
What if the tree wasn't conveniently there? The driver would've had have to dig a hole & put a steel post there to act as an anchor point.
ak Alksdr Good point.
There’s a thousand ways to skin a cat. He chose his approach based on what resources were available.
Why did he need a snatch block, simple winch out from the back.
Beats me.
Wrong. You will fight it if you grab the light side. Go in front of the truck and pull on the drivers side rim from the opposite side of the road with about 35,45 degree boom height. It would pop right out.

omg are you ok tom and your puppy
Yep.

Greg wooton. I'm on you tube....
It's too bad your dumb ass spelled the last name incorrectly. LOL. What a fucking idiot.
So what really happened
+Mr343alex Not paying attention with super soft sand.
then the guy says, id give ya a tip, but i only brought a credit card.....................
I didn't find out until later the undercarriage was damaged.
if you cant keep the bad language out don't post
Jeffrey Miller Fuck off.
When someone posts a comment using foul language it shows their imaturity and lack of intelligence to get their thoughts across .
Fuck that
match . com doing it again. screwing customers with shocking matches.
well, next time you may not be so lucky.....what if you are reading your book while driving, and you mow down a young child,or cause a serious accident? you will have a death on your conscience.... could you live with that?
Yeah.
Rookie
Why's that?
Excellent job. Now learn how to drive
FU.
That was a terrible recovery, by the way. Just because it was "successful" in the end, doesnt mean it was correct. I'd be surprised if he didnt tear the crap out of your suspension.
It did rear it up. $200.00 worth.
😆

Just as many are deleted every day. Savages.
a very costly mistake? lesson learnt?
Nope. Still do it.
Wasn't that skilled. He could have tore things up with the J hooks. Should have used straps around the wheels.
He did.
No he didn't.
Yeah, he did. I had to get the front end fixed two days later. I noticed a binding noise when I left the scene. I took it to Snider's in West Branch and they fixed. Check the dates.
Straps around the wheels= slingshot
you are boring me now.....
