I think the fact of Bobby collecting degrees along with thirteen majors championships causing him to go months without touching a club makes his achievements even more outstanding.
I've given up on modern "pro" instructors who have 100's of videos and gone back to the basics... Bobby Jones was the greatest player to grace this blue marble. His swing is perfection. I regularly watch his instructionals and have learnt more from the 1.5 hour footage than any instructor. Arguably Phil Mickelson is the wizard of the short game but even he learnt it indirectly from the Legendary Jones. Those, and another, are my instructors!
"How I Play Golf" is the real reason I still play to this day. Watching those videos helped turn a baseball swing into a golf swing. I'm forever grateful to the Golf Channel for making them available for the masses to enjoy.
When I started in golf Bobby Jones was one of the players that I had to learn about. My local pro, an old timer, had me watch endless Bobby Jones videos. I have to say that this video opened up a new view of him. Jones was intense and it's nice to learn more of his back story.
Truly one of the early pioneers! I'm really glad he got to achieve so much in golf before health problems began to affect him. An all-round amazing man. And a degreee too!!!!!
What an amazing video and he is for sure a legend of the golf no doubt about it. Great to know more about his life in this video it was very insightful.
What a well put video, anyone who calls him or herself a golf fan knows or heard of Bobby Jones but knowing about his origins a whole different thing, I did not know he had a weak constitute as a child, He fought and overcame his illness and regain his health with staying true to himself and golf, also overcame many other ordeals.
Bobby Jones had one of the best golf swings in the history of the game. The best golf instructional book that I have read was one written by Bobby Jones. The book had few drawings so he had to describe the golf swing mechanics using words. Quite a feat. No doubt he was one of the best to have played.
There are so many things to admire about Bobby Jones-------his modesty, sense of fair play, intellectual curiosity, and all-round sportsmanship. It pains to know about someone so influential and respected who died with not a public word about the most significant moral issue of his beloved South-----Civil Rights. He died in 1971,, a broken body but a keen mind--------how much weight would a few words from him have meant.
Retired at the ripe old age of 28, won the only grand slam, could've had 5 us open wins but called a penalty on himself, collected degrees while winning majors. These facts and that he didn't touch his clubs for months in between tournaments is outstanding.
Won 13 majors(the ams were majors in those days) 4 us opens 3 British opens out of 4 tries, 1 British am,5 us ams. Retired at age 28. Played in 52 tournaments winning 23 that's over 44% win rate and did this while collecting degrees law degree included and didn't touch a club sometimes for months. All with hickory clubs, old ball and played under the stymie rule ( couldn't lift, clean and place on the green).
I personally think Bobby Jones is the greatest golfer that ever lived. He had his traits. The only thing that held him back was his health. I believe he would’ve surpassed any record as an amateur that the pros have today he is just that good because he played the game, because he loved it
Jones won 4 U.S. Opens and finished second four times losing twice in playoffs. 13 majors in 7 years. Nobody has topped that and probably nobody ever will.
Four greatest golfers ever: 1) Tiger Woods (Most PGA tournaments won - 78 + overcame immense physical obstacles, etc.), 2) Jack Nicklaus (18 Majors won, 19Xs finished 2nd, 10Xs finished 3rd! > Unbelievable!!!) Robert T Jones (Single year Grand Slam!)
I've never known much about Jones before today, but I am glad he had golf as a child and on up. He is definitely a legend and one to be remembered! Sad he had to deal with bad health most of his life and passed earlier in life than most. 🏌🏌♀

Walter Hagen cleaned Jones's clock in their only head to head match. Hagen was the greatest match play golfer ever.
Tommy Armour gave Jones a shot/side in friendly matches."Dont you feel bad giving a shot/side to an amateur? No-thats how good he is."
Sorry Jones gave to Armour
HE WAS THE BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Absolutely ⛳️
It is said that professional Tommy Armour asked for strokes from Jones when playing playing personal matches together.
Bobby Jones was great and I'm glad I watched this video.
Hard to compare golfers from different eras…I never saw him play
Thanks for watching Dave ⛳️
The fact that he was an amateur says it all.
It's pretty impressive!
This was all known.
Jones won 4 U.S. Opens and finished second four times losing twice in playoffs. 13 majors in 7 years. Nobody has topped that and probably nobody ever will.
Yes and all through this collecting degrees and going months without touching a club.
enough with unrelated stock film shots...
