@@TipTut I'm having the worst time with rigging everything on the head. Well, what I really mean is that if I nest all the parts for the head in a graphic symbol, then I can't animate eyes and mouth on the main timeline. There are no pins, but I can only move the character's limbs, I can't move the entire character around.. Can you help me understand why?
you should make how to save a rig, I've heard that there was a new update that you can just drag and drop a pre-made rig to the graphics and all you need to do is to keyframe the movements. I think it saves a lot of time especially for those templated projects

I realized that layer parenting is much better than the messy half baked armature tool. Though bone has IK, you can do the same in FK with layer parenting. Bone armature puts all symbols in one layer making it difficult to revisit key frames of individual symbols. Moreover, the translate constrain is kinda broken.

thank you so much for your good tutorials :D Question though ^^ is it okay for all the drawings to be in symbol: graphic mode? of no, what are the cons if all the parts are in symbol:graphic mode? (im rigging a character preparing it to be animated) (expect me to post this comment again in another video ^^ i really need to know the answer T_T)
Is there a way to change a symbol while also using the bone tool. Example, if I have a character rigged, and I move the arm from one pose to another and at the end pose I want change the hand symbol from relaxed to a fist, it won't let me. When you rig a character, what you rig on stage is essentially all you can work with?
that's great but how to do the first steps ... I`ve drawn my character on photoshop then moved it to Animate but I don`t know how to separate the body parts to save them as different symbols
Hey ! Great tutorial. I just have a problem, when I do the rigg for the head, then the head is in the front (my eyes are in a different layer so we don't see them when the head is in the front for instance) and even if I press control shift down the head is still in the front :( Any idea? Thanks
I'm trying to learn bone rigging for game development since my artist skills is shit, I'd like to make my own character ( a basic stick figure) to figure this out but I dont understand how you move the anchors. Also wheres the bone tool and what is this symbol mechanic and how you make a vector shape a symbol? Could you do a complete tutorial in one video so I don't have to watch a whole series...drawing a simple 2 minute snake for instance and rigging it up with simple animation. Edit: Nvm I just realised I'm using illustrator...like I said this arts is new to me lol ik only programming
when should you use parent layering and when should you use the bone tool when rigging a puppet? Also, can the symbol fps be different than the main time line? for example if the main timeline is at 24 fps, can the fps IN THE SYMBOL be 12 or 30?.. Thank you for any response..
Regarding rigging: There is no answer, it depends entirely on the situation, the relationship to other elements in the scene and what movements you want to make. As always the best answer is: a combination of the techniques dependent on what works best for you. Regarding FPS. Just keyframe every other frame to reduce 24fps to 12fps, there is no way to actually change the frame rate for a specific symbol to my knowledge.
@@TipTut Thank you, I understand the FPS.. as for the bone tool, it seems more complicated, ive gotten used to parenting. perhaps the bone tool gives more control over the puppet? I'll continue to watch your videos and play around with both tools, thank you for your response.
Thanks man This video really helped me By the way is it possible to ease in and ease out the bone's movements at the same time? I tried to do that but I could apply only one of them for each movement
I have a character that I made in illustrator. It's in animate, with a mouth I added that's moving, and it moves to some audio. When it imported into animate, it imported as 1 layer, and was not split up into different layers like in illustrator. I don't know why. How do I split my character into different layers, like head, right hand, left hand, torso, etc ? I just realized, when I go into isolation mode, I can click different parts of the character separately, but they are not on their own layers. How do I make them their own layers, in the normal mode (not isolation mode). I think that is what you did. I selected the character and clicked break apart, and it split up in different pieces , but it is still 1 layer. I tried to make another layer, then click on an ear, and it moved back to the layer of the name of the character. So every, part of the character I click on, goes to 1 name, which is the name of the full character.
@@TipTut Thanks, I figured that part out. I selected the whole character and then clicked break apart, then I did, distribute layers. I think the next step is to make each layer (which is part of the character), into a graphic symbol. I'll have to watch your video to find out. However, I'm a little worried that the character won't act like 1 character afterwards. Like, all the parts move together. But, I'm guessing the character rig will hold all the parts together.
@@TipTut Hi, thanks. My bone tool is not doing the same thing as yours in the video. I don't know if animate updated and that's why. I did some layer parenting, and it's somewhat working but still not correct. I mean I trying to figure out how to set it up to move all the parts.
@@TipTut When I set the transformation point they move away. Before, it was not doing that. Also, when I use the bone tool the points are falling in places not at my anchor points, they are going to the edges of the boxes that surround each of the shapes. Also, when I try to connect the arms, they just fly away and move away when I click them. I did your tutorial long time ago and it worked but it's not working with my stuff. Do you think I have some settings that need turned off, do you think it's like a snapping setting or something.
I have one more question! is there a way to save a version of a rigged object to make subtle changes without affecting other symbols? I have a symbol of broken branch that I want to fall off of a moving tree (I used the bone tool to make the branches sway). Thank you so much!
I’ve noticed that when you turn off joint rotation for the arm, you can no longer rotate the torso. Is there a way to turn off joint rotation for the arm socket, but still be able to rotate the torso? Actually, literally 5 seconds after writing this comment, I realized that to fix the problem, you can constrain the rotation for the torso. This solves the problem, however, I feel that you shouldn’t have to constrain that join to make this work.
Hello, thank you very much for the video! I have a problem, I can't move the central bone, which belongs to the center of the body, therefore I can't make my character jump or crouch. Do you know why? Thank you!!
Loved the tutorial, but I need to ask: in what aspects is this more advantageous than using a character rigging plugin (like Duik or Rubberhose) in After Effects?
Thanks for the tutorial. Bone tool collects all the layers in one armatura layer. I want my character sit behind a table, so his body will be under the table layer bu his hands should be on(above) the table, but as the armature is on one layer I can't do this on main layer level. I can try to move table in character armature but I am not sure I can. Is there a solution for character body parts, being on different layers with different objects?
i am not able to use. i have turned my parts of the character to symbols, but somehow after adding bone tool , some of the layers just disappear! why??
My character is not incredibly complex but I want them to also turn around and show them from different angles ... would you still recommend using the bone tool and just make lots of different symbols and layers for each side or would you recommend to draw it by hand?
Great, Thanks. One question, Would you use the constraint tool to attach the ayes and the mouths to the head so they move along with it? Because I tried to do that once since no tutorial about bones in adobe talked about the rest of the symbols, just like them, but I couldn't because the bones in CS6 didn't allow me to see where I was pinning the bones, since they are bigger than those ones you got there.
This is the most comprehensible tutorial I could find on UA-cam. Thanks a million. Do share more.

I can try to move table in character armature but I am not sure I can. Is there a solution for character body parts, being on different layers with different objects?
One armature for the upper body, another for the lower
@@TipTut oh yes, with layer parenting addition it will work. Thanks again.
Where can I find the magnet tool? I'm having trouble finding it on my library... Thank you for your awesome videos, you are a great teacher!!
It's an external plugin that isn't used in this tutorial. :)
@@TipTut ohh ok ok. Is there any videos on your page about this? I appreciate the reply!
i am not able to use. i have turned my parts of the character to symbols, but somehow after adding bone tool , some of the layers just disappear! why??
For me adding a bone either flings all the character's body parts in random directions or won't let me connect them
My character is not incredibly complex but I want them to also turn around and show them from different angles ... would you still recommend using the bone tool and just make lots of different symbols and layers for each side or would you recommend to draw it by hand?
Both ways are great options, you can use frame picker to show the different angles
I think you are a good person, it can be seen from your smile.
Well thanks!
this is useful ya know thx.
You're welcome
Great, Thanks. One question, Would you use the constraint tool to attach the ayes and the mouths to the head so they move along with it? Because I tried to do that once since no tutorial about bones in adobe talked about the rest of the symbols, just like them, but I couldn't because the bones in CS6 didn't allow me to see where I was pinning the bones, since they are bigger than those ones you got there.
I'd put them inside the head symbol
Then use frame picker to move between preset poses for the face.
Hmmm I think I got you. For instance "talking head, angry face", etc.?
Hey, I hadn't thought of that, thanks a million!
how do you get multiple bone points on the same body part.for the main body, it wont let me do that.
How did you connect all the shapes , please?
I watched the new video related to this one, but you need to install a program that is not easy to learn as it requires a lot of practice
