i live with a toxic parent and i've always felt so lonely. lately, i cut off so many ppl in my life because i can't keep being friends with people who don't bring me closer to الله. it can be lonely but i keep remembering that He is with me and He's the only company I really need to heal and grow. i learned to enjoy my solitude and i am sure that الله will put good people in my life eventually. so for now, i try to focus on my relationship with Him before anything else. we got this! ♡

I have a friend that I've found myself being so so fake with I'm never myself with her always trying to look good and be funny to the point that my jaws hurt whenever I hang out with her from that fake smile I put on my face its not that I don't love her but for pleasing her and making her feel better about whatever goes on in her life I put a fake persona of that friend who's cheerful bubbly and can completely make ur depressing day bright by making you laugh ...I've sat and thought so much about myself and ultimately I decided that I choose me. I don't need to please anyone but Allah I don't owe anyone anything but Allah its lonely its empty but I am me and that's all that matters
Choosing yourself is one of the most liberating feelings in the world, once you stop putting in efforts and step back to reflect sometimes you realize that you were the only person trying to make the relationship work, and this applies to every kind of bond.

I have been through this and it has affected my mental health so bad and everytime i try to do something for myself people look at me as if im selfish. Like there was this was one family member that i went out of my way for but at the end of the day i was just seen as bad. But I dont please other people i just wanted to help out and i always feel guilty for choosing myself and always do things for people that i would never do for myself but some people never appreciated me and treated me so badly so im actually left mentally traumatised and no one understands that i was just trying to do good but that one family memeber made a monster out of me. Everytime i tried speaking up for myself they made me look even more bad.
May Allah ease your situation! When we start prioritising ourselves which means we do things which pleases us and we limit ourselves from pleasing others,people start behaving differently so that's a huge sign that ur decision to exempt yourselves from pleasing others was worth it.To be mentally strong and not get affected by these we should try to build a strong connection with Allah subhanahu wa ta Ala.It helps us to create a shield around us which doesn't let anything bad harm our hearts. We r here to please Allah,not any relative who doesn't even care.Doing something for someone out of empathy is a whole different thing.Work on yourself and build a mental strength that can't be affected by anything rather than the status of your connection with Allah.Bi'ithnillah.Hope it helps!

I just made Dua at Maghreb for Allah to help me with this exact issue and this video came up very quick after the title itself drew me in and I said yeah this is definitely from Allah and alhamdulillah for that because people pleasing especially caused from a deep route is very hard to overcome but also essential to overcome because we are only hurting ourselves and neglecting ourselves which is more painful also I love the explanation of thinking we are being righteous I think I even got this mixed up thinking I was Doing right by trying to put others first before me hoping for good but I’ve not felt said “good”

Last year When i went out of home for studies...i discovered this trait of pleasing people within me and i remember the person i cared about so much... telling me how possesive i was about her....and there were times when i did things for her betterment but she took it in the other way....i recently decided to choose myself and had a conversation with Allah...and here is your video telling me that I am not alone...keep making such videos since I don't hv any one around me now...and Allah is enough indeed😊
As salaam alaikum , just wanted to add, its hard to choose yourself when you don't understand your value and to instead romanticize your self-sacrifice w religion, its really hard to break out of but i think it helps when you think about how your purpose is to worship Allah, and you are your vehicle to worship essentially, you are inherently valuable because your purpose is valuable, you were created for this, you have to take care of yourself to show up for that purpose i hope that resonates with someone
I’d say choose Allah is more of an appropriate title. Pleasing Allah over pleasing people. Please people only for His sake, if it ain’t for His sake soley, it ain’t truth and is coming from the place of pleasing the ego/nafs. It is extremely hard sometimes to discern our niyyah and why our hearts are wish to do certain actions for people. Is it for a personal gain or for khayr hoped from Allah alone?
Yess I was thinking the same thing! When we choose Allah SWT we are prioritizing our relationship with Allah over other other things. This mindset helps us build closeness. Especially knowing that Allah SWT doesn't need us but we need him. I guess in a way it is choosing yourself too because ultimately being close to Allah only benefits us in the end. I think "choosing yourself" is more relatable terminology and maybe reaches a wider range of people as they're finding themselves in deen. Like maybe not everyone is there yet in their learning yk but everyone knows themselves. Either way I relate to your description more.
