I remember sitting in my room in the early 2000s coming up with the craziest licks on Guitar Pro and letting them play at ridiculous impossible speeds thinking no one will ever play this fast with midi clarity. I was wrong!
So nasty so awesome such God given finger strength and coordination, truly unreal in every sense of the word, I would love to purchase some albums like well of heads, widow makers highway, anything I could get you tube does not have full albums for me to download like other artists. I want the full catalog of this great man, along with Shawn Lane you are my favorite Roy.
Hi Matt and thank you for your wonderful post. It really is appreciated. Please find a link to my discography to date below and keep an eye out for the new Law of Thr3 album due for release in the next couple of months. Many thanks again. Cheers! roymarchbank.bandcamp.com/album/noneother
@@LawofThree thanks so much, if your ever in Greensburg Pennsylvania the palace theater is a great little 2500 seat venue, would love to see you bring your talents there, would also love for you to sign one of my guitars
I know that the action on that Vigier is real low but your string clearance must be like literally a fraction of a millimetre?! I can’t even imagine how you consistently gauge that and at those speeds? Then again the action is much higher on the acoustic and you’re STILL achieving something other worldly. It’s mind blowing!!
Will you be going to see Roy play live with the power trio - Law of Three at The Marrs Bar, Worcester, 20th July 2023? Plenty of improv to feast ones eyes and ears upon @alwilliams1997
The fast part should be replaced with the word hyperspeed, since it really is faster than I've seen anyone else play....anything. At those speeds it must be a reflex action taking over, because the brain needs about 10 ms for the signal roundtrip and this stuff must be happening faster than that. (One can test their reaction time and see how fast they can react to a blinking light or a sound signal test. Somewhere around 30 or 40 ms would be the normal range) This really is the next level of speed - literally! Cheers!
I've only found out about you recently (someone mentioned your name in a discussion about Allan Holdsworth I was watching). I'm astounded by your abilities. As an old git of 70, much of what you play isn't really my cup of tea, but you're a remarkable musician. You must have sweated blood to achieve what you have. Respect.
You have to pay me for my medical treatment for that 4th lick. I'm jocking, btw I think it's a dangerous field, and guys we have to listen to our fist when it starts hurting. Thank you for video, astonishing stuff.
Thank you for sharing your music and extraordinary guitar playing! Also , if i was hoping to play with the same economy of motion as well as over 150 bpm. Do you offer lessons or have you created videos about how to improve picking speed? Of course i want to play music with lots of emotion but for me fast guitar playing does not always mean it is lacking in feeling. Anyway thank you if you see my comment ! I hope I can learn more about your technique to shredding up a storm 😊 !
Hi Nick, cheers mate! I have a few technique videos up but nothing thorough yet. I reserve that content for lessons. I have a few spaces coming up in March and April if you wish lessons with me. Drop me a line at royemarchbank@gmail.com and we’ll get something sorted out that works for you. There will also be some more free video content uploaded in the coming months!
@LawofThree Hi Roy ! Thank you so much ! :) Oh okey dokey , I do currently have a guitar teacher but I have a disability and may not be able to afford your lessons . Anyway , not looking for pity. I'll email you anyway and I would love to have a lesson with you! :)
Just a bog standard £2 Car Phone holder with a small flexible arm and suction cup. Works a charm. Its stable AND it doesn't get in the way of your fretting hand playing the high register like other designs.
Ironically, because it's played so cleanly, the guitar sounds like another instrument - but it goes further: A melodic pattern starts to sound like something between a harmony and a timbre. So in multiple senses, one isn't sure what one is hearing, and that's quite refreshing. I've read about the stint with Dweezil and I imagine it sounded great. But imagine if Frank was still around. Maybe Roy would have become his synclavier "with eyebrows".
How long can you sustain those speeds for? Like your finger dexterity. I'd love to see you playing at this galactic speed for about 20 seconds straight, that would be awesome.
@@Despond ua-cam.com/users/shortskwWYFPN-cos?feature=shared I’ve no idea, I’ve never tried mate. Here’s a session I did for Necropathy that’s about as nuts as it gets from me

You can play the line without a pick for all of it. I sometimes use the index or middle on the pick hand to play the first note 'up pick' on each string if I plug direct to amp. Sometimes I employ classical PIMAC, sometimes I use a pick, but In truth I much prefer the fluid sound of Legato. That and the fact it feels much more natural to me.
If there is ever anything you want to ask or book a lesson you can get me through www.roymarchbankguitar.com I give Skype so students from around the world can get a lesson at a time that suits them. All the best - Roy.

LICK FIVE IS JUST F***ING RIDICULOUS WHAT THE F MAN
Good grief, never heard anybody play like this except the late Shawn Lane. You sir, are very talented
holy shit
this is shawn lane level stuff, didnt think we would ever see that again
This is even beyond Shawn Lane
This is insane! The clarity between the notes is unmatched. I thought Shawn Lane was fast, but wow, this is some alien stuff!

You’re looking at getting The Phantom M320s camera to best capture the speeds you reach. Start at a cool $24000 though!
Wow Roy, amazing as always!! I can see why you need that 120fps camera 🤣
Excellent exercises. I gonna take some of this to my daily finger training
Looking forward to the review of the Vigier Shawn Lane guitar, cheers
