I'm a piano player and can't identify a note on the guitar if my life depended on it. I watch your videos for your awesome gigging advice and tips and to watch you perform. You have mastery of the guitar. But let's get real, there's no instrument more complex and that sounds more beautiful than the heavenly melody notes and chords of the piano : )
Thanks Boss. Nice, Pretty damn Sweet, Awesome covers and options to own those songs. I guess my 3 go to "Piano Songs" for solo acoustic guitar are. #1:Dancing in the Moonlight. (King Harvest) #2: Walking in Memphis. (Marc Cohn) #3: Stepping out. (Joe Jackson) Honorable mention to, Bring it on home to me, & Moondance .
Guitar player here after playing almost 30 years I started studying piano and keyboard. It’s amazing. It’s an ear opener. Definitely definitely definitely start playing piano.
I was keyboard in an Afro-Funk band with a mind-blowing guitarist. He was inventive, fast, free, and soloed all over the neck -with only four left fingers. But he felt limited by the obtainable grips and expressed admiration for the relative ease and power of the keyboard to implement e.g. quartel harmony and extended chords. It makes for weird sessions when the main theme becomes wanting to swap your instruments and skills to realize evolving musical goals.
Great choices oh 6 string sensai! I can play these but I’m finding my 60 yr old vocal chords can’t hit the high notes. I then remind myself when these and most songs were recorded the Artists were in their 20’s.
Thats a good point. but i would argue that if you did some good quality vocal warmups you may surprise yourself! thanks so much for the comment and glad to have you here on the channel!
Excellent choice in songs! Beatles always an excellent choice! Good for you! 🎸🎶🎹 your channel is growing! Your hour live shows; like during covid, I'm sure would be a BiG HiT! Best of luck!
Could you do a Lesson on How To Play PIANO MAN please. And I just want to say l love the channel, l’m Subbed with notifications on. I’ve been playing guitar for almost 5 years now my music teacher has me play guitar and sing a lot of coffee shop/ little farmers markets and small art gallery stuff. I love playing acoustic guitar the same reasons you said on how it’s so versatile just pick it up and go the dynamics you can do with it nothing can beat a good old acoustic guitar.l really like to finger pick since my teacher was heavy on You Must Learn The Way Of The Finger Picking before you use a pick, he always wanted me to be able to play just with a guitar and my hands. Any way sorry for typing so much. Love your channel please make a video on How To Play Piano Man
I do want to work up Piano Man but the three piano songs I do now are "Walking In Memphis", Gabe Dixon's "All Will Be Well", and Bruce Hornsby‚s "Every Little Kiss", the last in open E tuning.
I do piano man. I do it in C when I accompany piano players, but in Bb on guitar (helps my vocal range). Bb harmonica of course, guitar capo 3 in G chords, which has same great bass runs like C. Also Let It Be is in my list. Another piano tune I like is Colour My World by Chicago. Has many interesting chords but they arpeggio out almost note for note to what is played on piano. Two options for the flute solo. Some gigs my friend Meredith shows up with her flute and nails it. Other times I loop the chords and play the lead on guitar. (I can send you a link).
Imagine no pianos, a koo stick rules ok, thought you were about to crack the Dylan harmonica joke for a moment there Frank, It was blowin in the wind, nice lesson btw, from London Uk (I find let it b is easier vocally in G)
Love your channel man. Question- have you ever tried Jim Dunlop nylon picks for acoustic? I love the tortex, but with acoustics i find the Dunlop nylon slides off nicely and less “string” sound, more wood. Just curious if you’ve compared. Rock on 🤘
Thanks so much. I did use the nylons briefly and I liked the sound they had. But I found they tend to crack. I use a thinner pick. The tortex just wears down but the nylon was cracking on me. Also a little hard to grip em. But if you out two like cuts (or a shallow scratch) in with a sharp knife or razor right where you hold it it will stay in your grip better.

Frank, what are your thoughts on a video about playing volume? I would love to hear your perspective. I am just loud enough to make sure I can hear myself and I find it insulting when I am asked to turn down when all I am doing is compensating for the crowd noise. Lowering it from where I can just hear myself to less than that can compromise my set(s). I know the owner is ultimately the check writer but there has to be a compromise. I know at some point you have to of encountered this. I get it about ever 5 shows so it's not all the time. Funny thing is that sometimes I will hook my PA up in my house for full sound practice before a show and my inhouse volume is louder than my play live volume. Thanks man!
I’m going to do a video on this. Generally I say just do whatever the owner wants and try not to take it personally: I agree though that sometimes it can be a drag. Also I have found that when an owner has me play too low I get less tips as a result of less interaction with the audience.
Wait ..wait...wait ... you're just gonna throw those cool jazzy chords at the end of your Imagine tutorial like we didn't just see that?!! 😂 Very nice 🎸👍
That is a great song... would be a challenge to pull off.. hmmm .... As for the strings nothing really special. Just D'Addario's Phosphor Bronze 12's... amzn.to/4cTeXNF
Not to cut you short Frank, you are always giving good advise, but I want to Segway to what just happened last night....Oct 31, 2024 Salem, MA..."Willie Nelson" (me) playing "Spooky", "The Monster Mash" and of course "On the Road Again" on the streets of Salem may even get you on Boston-TV...that it did. I just uploaded the TV interview on my channel if anyone want see "Willie" and Salem on Halloween. Back to you Frank--lol 5 STARS! --Van
Another question- 😂. You often use your d35 in studio/home videos, but i think Gibson at gigs. Any particular reason? Is it to protect the precious Martin? Or feedback issues or something like that? Thanks man
@@FrankPersicolol i didn’t even think about that. Had kk mini installed in my d28. If i had an electric acoustic at the time, i probably wouldn’t have bothered.
I have been considering piano as a second instrument too, have a cousin who’s been trying that. Problem is we’re so much better on guitar we get frustrated w the piano and pick up the guitar…
When u listen to a song like this does your brain click in trying to figure out the chords playing in piano? You make it look simple. Thanks for your wanna b Boston accent humor😎
Thanks! very cool!
Thanks so much!! I appreciate it
Frank I just started learning from you and am enjoying the humor, thank you for the lessons

Really enjoyed this video. I may have to learn to dabble with the piano as my 8 yo grandson wants to learn. Thanks Frank
My pleasure. Thanks for commenting. I defff think you should! and what a great way to bond with your grandson as well.
Frank, another great lesson with great song choice!!! (BTW- I put your accent as New York!! LOL) I'm from Philly (PA) originally.)
Thanks so much! U nailed it .. I’m from queens ny!
@@FrankPersico I guessed Nassau County.

Thanks frank that sounds brilliant you sing them great as well love all the songs 🎸😀

Great to hear that you are playing 5 yrs! keep it up. I will try to make a video for it highlighting the chord changes!

Nice idea with the claw technique to replicate piano.
It is a game-changer for sure

Try “She’s Got A Way” in comping style.
Great suggestion!

How about something like the entertainer? Also, what kind of guitar/strings are you using in this video? They sound really nice.
A lot of that has to do with it being a Martin guitar.
Having said that, yes I'd like to know the same 😊

I capo Let It Be so the opening C chord is a G chord shape - I find it easier to play which I am all about ;-)
That’s a good idea! It’s all about finding the way that works best for you.

I don’t gig with d35 just cuz it doesn’t have electronics and I don’t want to install any. Also I like a cutaway for gigs
