Perfect Handle 3/8" Socket Driver
Вставка
- Опубліковано 27 кві 2022
- The finest in antique socket-drivery, this socket driver is based on an 1904 patent by William Ward, but with several modern improvements.
Each socket driver is made from 1144 steel, ~9in/22.8cm long, and weighs 0.44lb/200g. The main shaft is square so you can use a wrench on it for more torque. The socket driver end is for 3/8" square drive attachments and hardened to 52 HRC.
The wooden (solid cherry) scales are hand finished with a hardening wax.
Each socket driver is UNIQUELY NUMBERED under the handle scales. There is also a fully steel-handled version and a DIY-handled version.
Entirely MADE IN CANADA.

MASSIVE thank you to all the Patrons whose support makes these products possible. I truly appreciate it! Hopefully more to come. www.handtoolrescue.com
True g didn't even pin his own comment to the top
It can do a lot... but can it kill a man?
Asking for a friend.
@Артур Тамазян Joe was using something called sarcasm. Sorta like saying Ukraine is responsible for the mass Graves found in the wake left by Russia
Just joined today.....after ordering my two 3/8" drivers LoL
Lovely tool, may I suggest it would be even more wonderful with another 3/8 drive on the end of the handle? Then it also becomes a magnificent extension tool. 👍
The fact that HtR didn't use a universal joint socket adaptor to be able to tighten that screw from a distance AND at an angle proves he has a lot to learn in the ways of socket-fu.
Or it shows a good deal of restraint
Never show your true power in an exhibition.
This isn't even my final form.
@@HandToolRescue there is No Doubt of this....
HTR Needed that much of adapters to flex tightened the screw at angle. LOL
In the next version, I'd like to see a 3/8 drive receiver on the back end, to be able to switch seamlessly from a glorious nut driver to a glorious extension.
I worked on an engine once and a snap on version of this with the 3/8 drive slot in the back was stuck under the radiator. Amazingly useful tool until it decided to leave me for someone else just as it did to the previous owner. I think of it fondly sometimes and hope the next guy is treating it well. Oh yeah and I would love to see that feature on this too.
@@Cartrik28 I have a tool of that exact description, given to me by an old timer I used to work with (gods rest his soul). The amount of useful/expensive tools I've found left behind on the equipment I work on is truly ridiculous though.
I have exactly one Snap-On item in my toolbox, and it's their version of this tool that is as you describe - socket driver handle with the 3/8" receiver in the handle end so it can double as an extension. I wouldn't trade that thing for love or money. It's the greatest tool ever made as far as I'm concerned. 🙂
My dad had two snap on drive handles and the two matching ratchets they were designed to use with them. He lost one handle, but still had the ratchets. I got creative and bought an extension plus an old style snap on screwdriver handle and after a little drilling, made my own handle. I absolutely loved those drivers.
Yep. This is what I was going to say.
Love it. I could watch that machining all day.
I have to have one of these! I’m long since retired from bending wrenches for a living but this has to be in my toolbox when my sons fight over my tools when I’m dead!
Pretty cool. Would have been excellent if it had the ability to attach a socket wrench to the bottom of the driver to double as an extension
I got absolutely shit blasted late last night, watched this video, and ordered the solid steel driver! Best irresponsible purchase I’ve ever done. Actually pretty excited for it to come in. 10/10 would drunk purchase again, thanks HTR!
You're truly an artist sir. Already ordered a couple. Thanks!
My profession centers around making processes as streamlined and efficient as possible. Your method for driving that screw at the beginning is as close to perfection as I have ever seen!
"Perfection at all times" Those are words to work by. Love the channel, the tools are just beautiful.
Just received one of these sensual beauties for my anniversary(5th, which is the wood one, so I have the cherry handle!) from my lovely wife! Delightful, and may have led to other "things" when she heard the way I was describing it ;P
Thank you for crafting a great addition to my toolbox, as well as the memory!
Looks great and functional, the recreation of old tools is not only illuminating but in a lot of ways the old tools appear to have equal functionality and of greater quality
Hopefully we'll see a matching 1/4" drive one with a matching reciever on the handle end. Truly a glorious tool!
Also 1/2", 3/4" & 1"...
@@Tinker001 I swear I would pay to see someone using a 1" socket screwdriver and torquing down nuts with it ahahahah
Don't forget 1/8" drive!
@@andy_liga 1/2 and 3/4 would be great for drain plugs though. Haven't worked on anything big enough to have a 1 inch square socket drainplug though lol
I'm so glad I had the 6" adjustable you made in the car with me yesterday where my exhaust hangers for off... Nothings ever there when you need it, except that wrench!
Soooooo satisfying! I just listened to a few podcasts on my commute to work for the past few days where this guy was the guest. I also have watched a ton of these videos. Perfect amount of information with the right amount of brevity! Thanks for deciding to throw these videos on UA-cam all those years ago!!!
Proof you’re still #1 in the genre. Exceptional editing and workmanship!
Ordered the Cherry one. When it gets here I'm clearing out an entire drawer of nut drivers and throwing away the cheap plastic socket handle I've had for years.
Mine arrived today, a week ahead of schedule. Beautifully made. Smooth as can be handle. I am thrilled!!!
Perfect indeed :) Really loved seeing the behind-the-scenes on this, and that you thought ahead to make a connector for all the existing bits. I'm really happy for you that Patreon and UA-cam combined let you produce these beautiful objects!
Something for the future: Think about milling the female end of a square drive at the end of the handle on the metal one. It makes your socket driver also a ratchet extension.
I have a 1/4” drive one made by Williams and it’s awesome.
Yes! This! I use the same one all the time!
Absolutely, I have few 1/4" like that and several non extendables and always need to first find the correct one
YES not sold in any hardware stores 1/4 yellow handle with female end best tool ever had to order on ebay after long search after i lost my 20 year old one,
Would buy this 3/8 in snap if it had female end, and whole set 1/4, 3/8, 1/2 make make set like that and i be your first customer
"Perfection in all things" is something that I try to live by. Great work!
I am in love with this tool ! I tipped me over the edge and I went cracy in your shop. Thank you for the content, it is allways a pleasure to watch.
I always enjoy watching your marching work
I don’t really order things from UA-camrs or even anything from everywhere, but I made sure to order this and a wrench from you. I’ve been watching for years, after every bad day I can come home and watch another interesting video that takes my mind off whatever happened, thank you for that.
Well thank you!
I just received all the screwdrivers and ratchet models, and I must say they are impressive. Great quality and functionality for sure. Highly recommended. Can’t wait to see (and buy) your next tools.
Another beautiful creation from the master himself you sir are a credit to the profession
It’s massively glorious and gloriously massive. Love it.
The final design is absolutely glorious! Keep it up!
You will never lose your 10mm socket again! Beautiful blend of wood and metal, thanks for sharing!
Just hope the 10mm isnt on the driver when it decides to go missing.
I live in a very humid climate and have been treating my hand tools with Tung Oil and heat to protect the metal. If I had a beautiful socket driver like this, that's the first thing I would do.
Nice work as usual, HTR. Love your videos.
Thank you for making these beautiful tools.
This pleases my jimmies, beautiful craftsmanship.
That is a thing of beauty! Thank you for taking time to make, film, edit and post this video. I'll definitely check that out!
It looks like a design from the Irwin Perfect Grip Screwdriver, that were found in a lot of WWII Willy's Jeeps. They came with pinned flattened scales, but I restored some with Turkish walnut and rounded them as you did. I also didn't pin them. They are the best feeling and looking screwdrivers I have ever seen.
Your work is beautiful.
The auto generated closed captions are amazing on this one.
Those are simply a work of art.
Dude you are KIlling it! Awesome work! You are a pillar of humanity.
I've been watching through your vids for a week or two and I have to say- the muffling on a lot of the really, really harsh sounds in some of the restoration works makes these incredibly comfy videos to fall asleep to and as some relaxing background noise, and is just a better way to enjoy this kind of content overall. You do excellent work, cheers!
Absolutely stunning
Looks absolutely amazing
Got mine today and awesome it is to, very well made and substantial. Thanks very much!
Outstanding tool design and construction.
That coil is nuts!
Adding the detent was my favorite part of the video.
You crack me up, I was already smiling at the intro! 🥰
i wish i could afford to put all the amazing tools you made in my tool box ... maybe one day
This is gorgeous.
I love mine. This is a go-to-tool. For those times I want a ratchet, I bought a 3/8" ratcheting adapter.
Square and glorious in deed!
i bought one of your little wrenches, love it, thanks buddy!
had to buy both cherry hand and all steel handle. love it!
Had to stop video midway to order one and also add the wrench I've intended to buy for some time. Keep up the great content!
Looks awesome. Love all the content. Didnt even wait to finish watching the video before I ordered mine. Cant wait to see it.
Awesome 3/8" Socket Driver !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
HTR showing how to maintain "social-distancing" from a project.. ☺
Oh and the surface of the handle before any woods added is lookin' groovy!
That was great to watch 👍 I loved the start with all the extension bars joined up lol
You crack me up at least once per video!
The solid steel one looks like a good hammer
Amazing build. Love it bro.
Those coils that heat it up are incredible!! I've seen similar things on HouseWork. I think he called it an induction forge. I think it uses magnetic forces/energy to heat the steel like an induction stove.
I had a roommate who worked for a company designing induction heating equipment, including machines the automotive industry to heat billets of metal which were then forged into piston connecting rods in a single blow.
It's called an Induction Heater. It runs high frequency high amperage through the coils (hollow, water cooled so THEY don't melt). That induces a magnetic field in whatever's inside/close to the coils, causing rapid heating. They're readily available for buying from various shops. Doing it in parts might be more expensive as High Power Fast Switching transistors needed are pricey.
The induction heater are by far the best investment I have ever done. Now I can release every screw or bolt with ease. No need for those stupid extractors that only work 50% of the time. Heat will work 100% 👍😀
I have a little one sitting on my desk I use to heat my stainless dry herb vaporizer, takes 1/4 the time a butane torch does to heat the same mass and since it's a magnetic field it heats evenly through instead of only where you apply external heat. The big ones in manufacturing plants can light up inches thick bar stock almost instantly, and they only pull power when something is in the field as opposed to keeping a furnace running.
@@LMDetorie they can melt a thick bar of steel in a second and then suspend the molten ball mid-air at full power. With some stainlesses it turns into a sparkler (:
🤣🤣🥰🤣 that opening had me rolling! Great idea too! I have a 1/4" drive one that I use the fire out of to keep from snapping off tiny fasteners.
Beautiful tools. I love incorporating wood with metal tools feels better than plastics in the hand.
Top perfection as alway's !! High quality craftsmanship nice work very nice work !! 👍👍
All around useful tool, excellent taste, an design
Holy cow. Nicely done!
Gloriously beautiful. I love the look. Wish i could have one too
This is the best that socketry has to offer ...
Awesome design!
i would like to hold a moment of silence for the carbide sacrificed in this video
Muahahahaha
A tool I didn't realize I needed until just now.
You come out with this after I don’t need it anymore geez man.
Lovely work!
Beautiful work
Wow. This is so useful tool. Looks good.
Very nice presentation and very informative. Thanks for sharing. 👍😁🇺🇸
You glorious bastard, this is another Canadian plot to prize American dollars out of my pocket. IT WORKED! 👍
Lovely work. I have received the blank version and just today finished addling the wooden handle. I used Sheoak, a timber local to Western Australia. Not the hardest wood (probably should have used Jarrah, another local timber) but Sheoak has the most beautiful colour and grain that perfectly complements the brass pins. When not in use, I'll hang it above workbench so it is visible.
Great work my friend
I love when you make tools from scratch. It is one of my favorite things to watch on UA-cam!
The handle is shaped like a revolver. I’m sold.
Today Early morning , I was searching all My favorite UA-camrs Recent Videos ,I was Sad since I have already watched Your last upload video...And Now ,when I reopened YT got This Amazing video..Iam Comment and liking even before watching it....Love your work sir..
🤤 I'm gonna Cerakote mine. These are beautiful!
Glorious!
I love the old "knife handle" tools :)
I'm going to be building a little LE5 for my Sky soon. I bought this so I can do it all by hand... In a bit more personal way I guess. Looking forward to getting it. Great work.
This one's nice. I'm going to pick up two naked ones, because this can genuinely be the centerfold of a heirloom tool box.
i recently came into possession of my great grandfathers ww2 14 1/2" irwin flathead, i wanna tighten up the wood handle, but its too beautiful to ruin the patina, i just love the look of these older tools
THAT is a sexy 3/8" square drive
Glorious! I must have it.
Outstanding bro
Gotta get one to go with the wrench! Beautiful and useful, like the cnc. ✌
*Kia ora (Hello) Wow what a GLORIOUS tool. I love your mahi (work) with you making a new tool or restoring equipment. Kia kaha (stay strong) & well from Covid/Delta/Omicron from this kiwi in Aotearoa New Zealand*
Mine is on order! Will look nice next to my collection of HTR tools on my bench. #2 Phillips would be awesome. Thanks.
I feel so bad for your companion, I bet they're blind from rolling their eyes so hard 🤣. Beautiful toolwork!
That intro reminded me of the opening shot of Star Wars. Also, I totally expected someone else to be turning your hand for you at that point. Great intro!
Great driver !!!
As always, awesome stuff! It would be even better if the solid steel handle version had a 3/8" drive socket to attach to a rachet, making it an extension with a hand grip. I have one in 1/4", but never seen one in 3/8".
Making a square rod is very simple. But the square hole is much more complicated. And as a result, the cost of a screwdriver will be extremely high. And the screwdriver itself will lose ergonomics, because your hand will rest against a square hole measuring 9.525 millimeters.
Snap on makes one in 3/8. VIM tools also did, if you can ever find one.
nice job👌👌👌
love it...I love the commentary the ball detent...to Gloriously...wait for it...Awwww!,,,they shouldn't go anywhere....weeeeee-ooop, weeeeep, weeeep weeeep! i piss myself laughing everytime! Great work Eric!!!
i so want this and that screwdriver you made. those look so sleek and retro :D
Glorious
