      Hey Matty! Hard not to smile messing with these old things! The worst thing is the engine seems to run better than the 692 in the w model! It certainly burns less oil so far!😂

    Engine sounds good. Helpin a friend with his 66 cabover k.w. 318 d.d. plumbed in an electric fuel pump at the secondary fuel filter. Engine lit right off after sitting almost fifteen years. Saved a lot of cranking and priming. Glad to see you brought her to life. !

      I thanks mate! That’s awesome! I did think about that but I didn’t have enough fittings in hand to make it work but I should get it setup so I can undo the lines and put an electric pump in-line for priming these old engines it would make it easier on the starter!
      Thanks for watching!

    That sucker sure looked good under the valve covers but the clear water in the sump is a little weird, hopefully just rain water some how. I haven't worked on a Driptroit for years now, I have a road service business in Idaho & most of the trucks I work on are not very old. It's been years since I worked on a customer's cabover but I have a 68 International co with a Cummins V903.

    What a video! I could have spent hours walking around that guys yard with his trucks, but I think you have more classics now Jake😁 that V8 sounded great once it fired, bit of persistence and start ya bastard to bring her back to life 🤙🏻 I saw a few comments about it but they start some much easier if you pump the diesel in, we’ve used an airline on a 25ltr drum of diesel to force diesel in, always take quicker. My heart sunk a bit when I saw the compressor missing, thank god for the warmer climate in southern Australia! If that was over here it would be full of sludge and rust 🤣 I’d definitely keep the cab over, find a big cam 14ltr Cummins and use it as a toy😁 the smile on your face said it all when the Detroit was singing😎 brilliant video as always mate! Looking forward to next weeks already 🤙🏻🤙🏻

      That’s only his junk yard aswell he has a massive collection that I havnt seen yet! It did sound quite good I was impressed I wasn’t expecting it to run without any issues really, good idea that would have worked aswell some of them I’ve had prime really easy and others have been a little more challenging. Yeah I wasn’t too excited about the water in it either but I’ve had water in the radiator and it doesn’t seem to be a liner so it must have just been rain water getting in through the compressor hole I’d say.
      Thanks for watching mate I’ll get another one ready for you to watch this weekend!
      Cheers

    Hi from France, it's funny you know,but back in the '80's just about all the big fleets ran G.M.'s(Detroit Diesel),those motors just seemed to last forever.There were two schools some had G.M.'s and others had nothing but 903's (who remembers those ?),and now finding an old 871 is hard going?they were pretty driver-proof those old 871's,drive 'em like you hated them was the motto,most of them had 15speed Road-ranger's in them, you know with the deep-reduction switch on the dash....and the obligatory spare belts and spare oil in the tool box,and boy oh boy they went through some oil...I can't help but be impressed by your chanel,great content, have a great week.

Course that looks to be early 70’s in the states with those style headlight buckets. Would make a neat project truck for someone that had time and was willing to do the work. If you’re lucky the other one will run without much work. Stay cool

    • @dieseldownunder.
      @dieseldownunder.  7 місяців тому +1

      Hey mate 50psi at a cold idle and dropped down to 30 once it warmed up abit, so I’d say the motor is pretty healthy with those numbers.
      I think it will hold water it seems pretty good so far, yep so this is an American built truck we call them Seattle’s as they were built in the Seattle factory as right hand drives.
      I hope the other one runs too because I don’t really want to pull the engine out of this if I don’t have to, I think it could definitely be saved and is worth saving, I need to find out some of the original specs for the truck and see if it’s the original engine and if it was factory single drive.

      Yep I’m enjoying them so far! Lucky for you the first kenworth I put on UA-cam the white day cab W model is getting a cat 3406A so I will have a cat in the fleet! And as for a mack I’d love a super liner or value liner with an e9 but they are so expensive!
