Man O man!!! Memories!! Drove trucks in holidays for pocket money in the 80's.. 1st one in '88 was a 143H. In 1990 i got a M.A.N 26.440. I long for those days now... Albert Basson from South Africa.
We have used them in / the SCANIA V-8 configurations in conventional and cabover sleepercabs / with 10, 13, 15 and 18 speed R.R. they served well. The long transcontinental runs were from The Netherlands and Belgium to countries in Arabia, Asia, Russia and North Africa. I had un uncle in Western Australia which rebuilded an conventional 143 V-8 tandemdrive heavy-duty for heavy haulage, with 36 gears ( 2 coupled 18 speed boxes ) with an retarder ! These trucks from SCANIA also builded up Australia ! Greetings from the Netherlands. P.s. In Britain there was also an long distance pioneer, Who used SCANIA trucks for long and heavy haulage. Astran. Keep driving safely and trucker greetings. 😊❤
Would like to see it fixed up. Drove Scania on European haulage for quite a few years starting on a 142 then had two 143s and so on up to the R series. Great trucks.
Gday Jake, good to see ya back, they got there money outa them bushes, engine sounds alright and would suit the gumboot nicely, top episode mate, cheers
Hey Matty, still floating around! took me ages to get this video done. Got a few annoying obstacles in the way at the moment taking up my UA-cam time sadly! it would suit the gumboot and if it doesn't sell it may end up in it yet! cheers
Hi Jake! Nice to see you back🤙🏻 what a machine! Most truck guys over here in the uk would love that truck mate, absolute weapon! Be great to see you fix her up. But if you need to move her on for Kenworth money I’d understand 😂
Hey mate, good to see you still hanging around!😂 I’d love to fix it or atleast transplant the engine into my 113 gumboot Sadly all that fun stuff takes time and money😂 Rails are the biggest expense in fixing this one, splitting and cleaning them might be all it needs so we will see what happens if it sells it sells if not it might stick around🤷🏻♂️ kenworth money doesn’t last long every time I call kw I cringe haha
A beast of a truck that old Scania the V8 sounds great good pulling work horse ok it's not fancy like the kenworths trucks but in the UK that Scania would soon sell and get done back up and doing the miles again if the cab was to far gone that engine would soon go in some thing else keep it for a while to make your mind up wat your going to do as you rush into selling it you might reget it
Hi can I suggest you look at the pull out stop knob to the right of it is a knob the same. It is a hand throttle if you twist it clockwise you will reduce the revs or press the button in the centre of it and push it in. At lower revs you wii be able to select your gear more easily. Also these Scanias are prone to air locks in the cooling system They like to be filled from the bottom of the rad they hold about 80 Litres of coolant. It is common to find a Fuller Box fitted in these trucks
Hi Jake, been missing your videos, Got to get Dad more involved, he is a wealth of knowledge as well. Looking forward to the next instalment. Hmmm the mighty scania lives. But can’t beat the roar of the screaming jimmy or the purr of the 903 in the KWs. From kiwi land

With a heavy rear end like that and the fuel tanks I’d say it was a bush truck getting smashed over corrugations a fair bit and the bushes got all used up, I bet it could tell a few stories that one, good to see ya back

Hi from France, mate great to view a new video, hard to believe that back in the day that was a big bit of gear, not sure if it's the original gearbox, but the Scania gearbox of that era almost broke your shoulder, low range into high range was a pain, but they had some grunt, unbelievable fuel economy for that period,if i remember corectly Ansette (i think it's spelt that way) had the long nose Scania's,they weren't the nicest looking prime-mover. Over here in Europe, for some unknown reason the cabover V8 Scania is like the top,i had a Scania didn't like it (no hate mail please),that thing would be worth a bit over here, not quite sure if it wiuld pass the émissions requurements.Funny how the "big time operaters" over here all run Scania's,they even have a 750 hp model (or somthing close),which is strange as we're limited to 44 tonnes and 90 kmh,but there you go.Anyway,on behalf of all your Frecnch viewers great to see your return.
Hey mate good to hear from you again! I know crazy isn't it, we had Scania factory fitted with road rangers so quite possible it could be original spec. my yellow Scania I drive can be bit of a pain to shift when its cold but overall its quite easy to drive and id take it over a new one any day. yeah the old gumboots don't look they best but they have grown on me since owning one! In Europe the 14 speed gearbox was Standard and can (although the opticruse automated gearbox is popular now ) still be although I read in a trucking mag that a 9 speed was also a gearbox used for them but unpopular.
