Cuda armored vehicle review! Today I'm reviewing the Cuda armored vehicle, which is essentially a 70-Series Toyota Land Cruiser designed for the apocalypse. The Cuda armored vehicle is very interesting and unusual, and I'm reviewing it all -- and I'll show you all of its quirks and features. I'm also driving the Cuda and I'll show you what it's like behind the wheel.

Park this in San Fran with a $20 on the seat and then we’ll see how armored it really is
Test the armor capacity in Chicago
Why not just go all out and leave it on the streets of Detroit
Good one brother
@@stareagle5000 the armoured panel's would get stolen
LGB!
Doug is the type of guy to announce "stop ambushing us" on an armored vehicle PA system
"Attention peasants. This is not the servants quarters. Leave Nantucket immediately."
I thought he would say 'Please stop ambushing us'.
Evil Doug: “Give us your quirks and features or we will fire on you!”
Thiiisssss…is an ambush.
Not funny kid
The armored glass windows look like the bolts would come off with a $50 impact driver and the right hex bit.
Hello Tay
Same with the door hinges...
This car's armor will not withstand the tremendous attack from the chocolate man himself.
This vehicle is also for people who don't like kerning.
CHOCOLATE RAIN. Am I showing my age??
I can't believe I'm watching Doug explaining the concept of overlapping - which he genuinely seems to have discovered for himself whilst making this video.
This looks simultaneously miniaturised & massive
The vehicle next to it dwarfs it too.
I think thats because wheels are funnily small in comparison to those wheel arches
Right, lol!
Cuz the car it's based on is tiny, so when you add buffy-looking add-ons it feels "weird"
Like seeing a jacked up short man.
That’s what she said?
With his gritty manliness, expert mechanical skill and storied military career, Doug's the perfect guy to test this.
I bet he brought his knee pads for this one
Doug commited war crimes in Iraq, his nickname was El-Quirkeke. Let that sink in...
Lots of hype and subscribers. Competency doesn't matter nowadays.
Doug is the type of guy to steal yo bitch!
"Thisssss is an M1 Abrams Main Battle Tank..."
Doug should play a role in a movie as an innovative physcopath explaining his inventions.
A villain's Q, that would actually be great.
Never knew how much I needed one of these trucks till today.. I love it.
Alpine Armoring: Check out our Battle Lock!
Lock Picking Lawyer: This is the Lock Picking Lawyer and today I'll be breaking into the Cuda with a cordless drill while taking live fire.
LPL: "Cuda??? OMG!! WHAT AN ORIGINAL EFFING NAME!! NEVER 'ERDUVIT BEFORE!!.....Talk about AmberTurding their own bed. Imma grab some popcorn."
Doug and LockPickingLawyer. The crossover no one asked for, but that everyone wanted.
The Car's occupants: No one break into this vehicle.
A faint voice from the outside:
Three is binding... Nice click at four...
I saw that gas door and thought: "I bet that's just a wafer lock, isn't it."
21:50 I love how in most cars, Doug would probably say "...so you don't _hit_ anything" but in this case--for obvious reasons--it's "so you don't _crush_ anything."
Hahah! Yeah....good catch.
Cuda??? OMG!! WHAT AN ORIGINAL EFFING NAME!! NEVER 'ERDUVIT BEFORE!!
Talk about name stealing from a true Icon........GET A LIFE, Alpine Amoring!!
Can't wait for all the quirks & features in the m1 abrams review
The idea behind the powertrain is that from a stopped position, you can push an SUV out of the way and escape
That “Light” sticker in the interior being crooked and then just exacto knifed cut out (scratching the black) would drive me crazy every day looking at that
for that price it's nothing to have those panels sent out for engraving and painting. I've done emergency vehicle outfitting and the electrics in these vehicles are usually done by old dog mechanics and therefore terrible.
I was thinking the exact same thing.
The thermal label stuff tends to fade out blacken in hot sunny places. Not good for a ccar
I doubt anyone cares about stickers when they're going to raid a methlab. This is a armored vehicle for law enforcement or whatever, not a luxury vehicle.
Yeah, if I was the driver, it would trigger my mild OCD
Finally a SUV i can pick up my kids from school with
OoF
Given the state of American schools this might not be enough
Lol damnnnnn fool too soon too soon
if you live in Detroit New Orleans or Chicago
The only downside is that they have to exit the vehicle to go to school, where they're in real danger
Why am i watching this and really paying attention to the details doug is giving... like im bout to pick one up
love the variety content
I see a lot of ways to get stuck in your CUDA. The hinges should be internal, there should be multiple air intakes and radiators in different locations and there should be a full armored panel underneath that covers the axels and drive line. Just my opinion. Nice rig though.
The underneath needs to be in a V configuration to deflect a blast as well.
Well, this vehicle is probably not a mrap which should be used in combat area. It seems more suitable for sort of police operations, give a protection against stones and light firearms, not land mines
@@KangoV just get a marauder
@@KangoV Well it's a SWAT patrol vehicle, not an MRAP or full on APC. It's meant to handle criminal level weaponry, not enemy military AT weaponry.
Since if they have say 10 kg AT Mine to blow out the non V bottom hull, they also have RPG-7 or M73 LAW and it will just cut through even the thickest of the side plates on that thing.
The below plate will probably handle what it is meant for: Which is number 1: someone molotov fireballing under it. Number 2: someones home made pipebomb aka small IED, thrown under or driven over. 3: criminals have managed to get their hands on stolen military hand grenades.
It's light armored patrol vehicle. Not a tank, not even a full on APC. If the criminals have scored a stolen AT launcher for themselves, well better get the bazooka guy before they get anything police would have. At that point call national guard with actual medium or heavy armored assets.
I agree with internal hinges. If those on outside get hit (other vehicle ram etc.) small bend will make them stuck. Good luck opening the door then
20:24 The off-center "Lights" label has me unreasonably furious. You put all this work into armoring a car, charge $185k, and you can't get a label centered?
No one buying these gives AF about that. You're paying for armor not luxury. Pay $250k if you want perfect stickers.
The cheap Chinese buttons that fail easily are another issue I see. I'd rather have an old school toggle
ah yes, the most important things in an armored vehicle designed for markets that have a tight budget. the label for lights...
@@Sheridantank The cost difference between the shop placing the label correctly or crooked is zero cents
The Babylon 5 font is an interesting choice, too.
Camping with Steve needs this, it's definitely bear proof!
Doug I’m gonna be straight up I watch your videos high as hell when I’m stressed and that is my happy place love the videos man🙏👍
The Cuda is so safe and secure, that you can unscrew the door hinges like a Jeep and capture or harm the occupants in about 5 minutes. That's impressive!
Yes, cause a soldier must have a screwdriver as part of their arsenal.
The protection is for active defense. You will be shot before you touch the car let alone get 5 minutes with the door.
@@ultraguy8771 You've ever heard of a Swiss army knife?
that's american logic to me, "i need a one inch deadbolt on my cardboard house🤓"
yeah and the armed bodyguards in it are gonna let you do that
I love how it is armored, yet leaves all screws open to outside. You manage to stop this vehicle and cannot get inside? easy, just unscrew the windows from outside.
there's no time to do this in combat
@@nothing9271 just shoot the top of the two hinge pins on the door?
@@neom0nk 12:00 they're literally made from hArDeNeD StEeL my guy. You arent gonna "shoot" that off. Blow it off, maybe.
@@Benzinilinguine
Learn the difference between just metal and steel. High powered rifles could wear those hinges out depending on how they're heat treated and such. Which I'm sure means nothing to you or you wouldn't call hardened steel metal.
I’m sure you have time to pull out your ratchet and take out a dozen heavy duty bolts. And as soon as you get the window off the armed guy inside shoots you in the face.
The metric conversion at the bottom is highly appreciated. Liked the video
An armored car? This channel just keeps getting better and better 👏👏👏👏👏
I knew before this video started he would be threatening attackers over a loud speaker with his Quirks and Features, and it's why I watched.
As an actual engineer in the auto industry I cringe every time I see one of these meat-head "security" companies pop-up with armored vehicles. It's always the same story, barely literate ex-army/LEO grunts with vague understanding of vehicle components thinking they can "build" an armored vehicle the same way they installed lift-kits in their trucks. A complete engineering disaster.
Truer words have never been spoken 😂
Your insecurities are showing big time. I wouldn't post something to sound so weak, and you're proud of it. You clearly have a anti military position. Probably a beta Male who thinks brains make up for being an all round alpha Male.
Note, I'm bringing the same brash childish energy you brought that makes any sound person doubt that you're an engineer. That your opinion is worth anything. Because you're unable to Express your opinion in any way without sounding like a raging child.. wait, so you must actually be an engineer.
Well said
nailed it
Then what are the problems with this?
Always exciting when you see a new Doug video
*Ambush breaks out*
Doug on PA: "THISSSS is an ambush"
Doug : “If the vehicle is disabled, it will keep people safe so they can be rescued later.“
Attacker : pulls out battery power torque wrench and unscrews the front window in about two minutes. Or door in about 30 seconds.
So surprising that the removable fasteners are on the outside of the vehicle? To work, this vehicle must escape and get out of harms way so it does not dwell in a risk area.
Something tells me it takes a lot more than those nuts on the outside to remove them. Especially considering how small they are vs. how heavy/ massive that window is.
Ditto for the hinges. If you look, you can see that the hinges are welded onto the door/ body. So I'm not even sure the point of the bolts.
I thought the same thing seems like a lazy oversight
They are probably double bolted from inside as well. Besides, the gun ports make sure no one comes close.
or just set it on fire and it becomes a crockpot.
" this vehicle must escape" nah, this vehicle have this special angled hole betwen the tire and armored body where you can put some rock or a brick and avoid the risk of runing awey from a guy with basic tools that you can use to get into the car... LoL
23:48 lmao i would absolutely hate if hundreds of armoured vehicles fell into the wrong hands. Im glad our government would never allow its enemies to easily get military weapons, NVGs, and armour
Yes, of course they would never allow that.
That could never happen. 😜🤔😡
*the Taliban would like to know your location*
We would never intentionally (or unintentionally via incompetence) arm our enemies!
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Doug, I love your enthusiasm for big boxy things. Don't ever change!
I can't imagine how can they ever reach general population about this vehicle without you!
I was a gunner in Afghanistan for 9 months. I was a CROWS gunner (MRAP) for the last half. I was in ASVs also and I drove them both too. I am all too familiar with these types of vehicles. The doors are air controlled on the rear of MRAPS and once you push that button you need to be clear of the door motion. You can operate them manually too but they are heavy. We would drift MRAPS through the deepest mud, accelerating sideways through the ruts and you couldn’t stop them. Off-roading in an ASV is actually even better. We would stagger them, CROWS MRAP out front, ASV, then MRAP then ASV. 11B
I was a sniper for the opps, gunners like u were my favorite target
@@joegomes1352 ha so funny
Would US schools benefit from this type of vehicle?
@@vadim7590 no, because the local sheriffs department has two already and if there is even a medium sized city, they have two as well. So locally everyone has 2-4 vehicles like this near them with a tactical unit anyway.
@@udonenomee2117 so what else is it used for in the sheriff office? I think it's too tall for a drive through.
From the side it looks like someone made a fiberglass bodykit in his shed.
Exactly,the surfacing is suspect
@@robertojofre15 The surface irregularities are probably because of the paint. I'm talking about "Indian knockoff" or "guy built one because he couldn't afford the real thing" kinda deal.

I can just see Doug driving down the road listing all the quirks and features
When Doug said “ I’m gonna get it out on the road and drive it I was very excited”.
I need this truck for my trip to Chicago next month.
Rented one of those for my holiday trip to Mexico. I could finally visit Tijuana and just chill while sightseeing. 10/10 would recommend
Perfect for Memorial Day.
Looks safe enough for LA, but I’d want thicker armour for Chicago.

Milk on the rocks. Shaken, not stirred.
An odd quirk of the current 70 series is its different track, front and back. Toyota widened the front to accommodate the V8, but leftnthe rear axle narrow. It's usually the first thing to 'fix' when modified, often combined with a GVM upgrade. Curious that hasn't been done on this one.
28:12 "relatively sort of topsy-turvy body rolly" hahaha
I would pay to watch one of these being sent to DemolitionRanch for a testing
Yup!! For science lol

Perfect car for driving in Chicago.
Thank you Doug for explaining how a PA system works. Cutting edge stuff.
The only vehicle I have seen here in Cagayan de Oro City Mindanao Philippines that is anything like this is the Dacia armored vehicles that transport cash to and from banks. I'm pretty sure that they aren't quite as well armored as this vehicle. A very enjoyable video Doug!
Will Safelite replace a windshield after a 5.56 chip?
Safelite repair, Safelite replace
I really like it when Doug finds these ultra quirky custom vehicles, and reviews them. I think this thing is super cool, and can understand why Doug likes it too. Plus he gets to vicariously review a Land Cruiser that he otherwise probably could not find in the US. Everyone wins, in this exchange. We get purpose built quirky and strange vehicles reviewed, and Doug gets to have fun doing not only that, but also getting a look at a vehicle he does not get to see often.
I especially appreciated the backstory as to how this armoring company got ahold of this, and how silly the whole thing seems as to the reason why Land Cruisers are no longer in the US.
I'm convinced that one day we will get into the quirks and features.
The gun port holes on both sides are the most useful features for me for MikeyD's drive thru
Anyone else concerned that the doors could be zipped off in probably around 30 seconds via hinge removal with a cordless impact and a 15 mill deep socket? Maybe they are just covers over top the actual fastener ?
it's made to handle riots, not Ukraine
@@MallocFree90 funniest comment down here

Why do you think Chicago is "gun free" last time I lived that they were SHALL ISSUE on CCWs.
Good to know that they are in the Washington metro area, as I'm planning on moving back to Baltimore soon.

Always look forward to Doug’s take on these extreme vehicles!
We deliver a few 70 series troop carriers to a mine in the Canadian Arctic every year. It's always cool to. See them in North America
It's cool to see the Toyota 70 series becoming a popular choice of vehicle in the Canadian mining industry nowadays. I just wish and hope Toyota Canada would allow us to buy the regular 70 series for regular use smh
Doug deMuro a super Star car reviewer,....the best and no one comes close.
You can taunt the ambushers with the loudspeaker nice touch.
Looks like if there was a reboot of The A-Team. They would use the Cuda armored military vehicle.
Some bot copied your comment.
Looks like the Insurgent in GTA
Nah, more like the USSV Rhino GX for the luxury feel...
Just what the world doesn't need, a second reboot of the A Team.
Few things that bother me greatly.
*Why are the lights operated by remote control? If the batteries in those remotes go dead those are useless. Why is there no wired control?
*Locks seem to be fairly weak, easily bypassed.
*External hinges and window frames with common used bolts, easily dissasembled.
*Cheap chinese camera's mounted as backup cameras.
I get that the point is to protect the occupants, but a little better design wouldn't be a bad idea.
In my jaded opinion, the real purpose of this vehicle is to look tough.
Remote control lights are obviously also cheap Chinese led-remote-ultra-bright-lights, just mounted above with few bolt's.
Yeah the external bolts were the first thing I noticed too. Get this vehicle's powertrain inoperable, and you stand on the outside and start taking it apart with a drill. lol
@@nalgene247 yep, it’s designed for Cops to spend their bloated budgets on this truck so they can LARP as soldiers and feel cool while they drive to the baseball game so they can do traffic control
@@Skip6235 Well I mean it could also be used to protect the community from a blm terrorist attack too
Thanks Doug

The hinges are on the outside, that makes it easy to get in the car if you lost your keys, very handy :-)
These things all sound very cool but imagine how thankful you’d be of them in actual battle.
It depends on what people are going to use against this thing, I'm not sure it can handle .50 cal weapons, and I'm pretty sure this thing can't handle explosives. This vehicle is really meant for lawn enforcement and VIP services, not military service.
@@brunoraoni IMO the only people who are gonna buy this are rich people who wanna feel important. It can only fend off AK-47, and unless they are in Compton or something real criminals have 50. cals and shit.
Protecting the driveshaft is easy. Use a v shaped 5/8" metal plate over the driveshaft pointing down and running the length of the shaft attaching to the plating around the tranny and motor.
Doug: I don't like reviewing modified vehicles.
Also doug:
Yeah but he probably means tuned , suspension changed , larger turbo , or something that altars the driving style of a car he wants to try out stock. This thing is meant to be an armor vehicle , and it is
Hey Doug, would love to see a review of the standard 70 series land cruiser! might be hard to get your hands on one in USA.
Maybe he can find one on Diplomatic Plates. He has a few videos (including this) around Washington DC......
We have tons of 60s 70s and 80s, we get the shittiest cars here in America from other manufacturers because most people here keep cars for 4 years….. you just never see us selling ours. Shit we even have 40s

It’s hard to find the black or grey exterior and black leather six speed. I’m sure he’s just waiting for the perfect model that hasn’t been notified. Extremely rare cars

My normal method of using grenades to unlock doors wouldn’t work on this.
Unbolt the doors, easy.
In Canada, we have a handful of 70 Land Cruisers except it’s only used for mining industries, and its already becoming incredibly popular for its usage. Its only sold thru one Toyota Dealership in Saskatchewan tho.
This is getting wild now, Doug reviewing an insurgent from gta 🤣
The hinges on the doors, hood, gas tank door, and gun ports remind me of my smoker grill
I’m curious if there were any suspension upgrades that had to be done because if all the added weight. Did you ask them about that Doug?
You can tell by the number of leaves on the rear springs that show up in the video that suspension has certainly been beefed up
If they didn't, the shell would be on the ground during the review.
Why ask? You can clearly see the answer to your question at 6:44 ? A third of the screen is literally just suspensions.
